Post BL2 it's obvious they're trying way too hard instead of relaxing into what actually works for them. Everything about 4's story is yet another desperate overcorrection.

Why not bring the Tales team in to write something? I don't really care for Telltale style games but I thought their work was decent. It can't be any worse than 3 and 4.
 
Some side quests are so much better written, there is one where you investigate serial killer case, or one where you become a mob enforcer, prepare a rendezvous for two characters that are a perfect match for eachother, or even a clap trap quest that ended on a positive note I didn't expect.
The are also a lot of bad side quests, but I'm surprised that I enjoyed quite a bunch of them.

BL4 has lost like 50% of it's total peak players on steam, the question is if it's the honeymoon phase that has ended or if it's because of urine engine breaking everything.

BL3 suffered because it was retarded enough to think their players cared about the story instead of looting and shooting, BL4 is getting a few hits because of that too and i doubt randy or his writers will get that no one gives a shit about his gay lore, just make locations for people to loot and fucking shoot.

I'm around halfway through BL4 and I have to say, the story and characters are almost as offputting as BL3. Any and all edge has been sanded off the aesthetics and humor. I would unironically rather have the antagonist calling me to tell me to kill myself then this gay kumbaya bullshit. It's like every other dialogue line or quest plot is just "you're an ultra special and unique person and everything you do is validating". The quest with the talking missile is a perfect example. I was hoping beyond hope that fucking missile would sputter out and fall sobbing to ground at the end. Also not a fan of the fact that literally every character in the world is some form of mystery meat mutt. Even Amon who is clearly supposed to draw from viking aesthetics has a flat smooshed nigger nose. He's also a fag, but hey, it's a perfect fit for the only white hunter with any muscle mass on him whatsoever.

The multiple patches that have been put out have done nothing to alleviate the micro-stuttering and middling performance on hardware that far exceeds requirements. To be extremely optimistic, the game is just alright. 7, 7 and a half. Which I guess is fine for a Borderlands game.

Is it like the quests in the previous BL's where this all boils down to following quest markers, pushing a button or two and then you fight reskinned bandits?

Well, pretty much. Sometimes you look for something in an area, or have a little jumping puzzle in order to reach your objective. And on special occasions it bugs out and loops you to your previous quest step.

I am legitimately unsure what you expect considering that's, you know, the framework of the game. Unless you want vehicle combat.

...And thank God there are no vehicle combat missions

I saw his video, he also pointed out that the White Norse guy has a black nose and that he maybe was first black and they changed it, wouldn't surprise me if true. Black girl magics should be reason enough to not buy this woke slop trash game. But Kiwifarms is unfortunately woke now.

BL1 is heavily cel-shaded, you might be confusing with the next-gen update which toned it down, also some of the celshading got toned down in 2 and later spinoffs like tiny tina adventure and on 3 the lines were made even thinner and now there is 4 in which if you call it cel-shaded you should be laughed at because there isn't anything out there resembling the artstyle.

its not celshading because the textures arent flat colors like in jet set radio or windwaker (the better known celshaded games)
if anything, it is stylized but more comic book shading style, hence the detailed linework around the character's textures
