Since my previous thread kinda-sorta turned into a soft megathread, and the tech layoffs will continue until morale improves, I think it's better to group them all together.

If your job can be done from home, it can be done from Delhi. If you cry about coming into the office then don’t be surprised if Sandeep is imported to replace you.

I think the biggest issue with RTO is that instead of it being Return To The Office it is Return To An Office. As someone who works in tech and with many friends across the industry, I have seen the reality of many of these policies. It isn't a return to the pre-covid normalcy where the majority of your team would be located in a single office with a few remote workers or ones based out of other offices for special cases (usually high performing engineers who are already masters of the code base). Instead it's forcing everyone to come into their closest office across the nation. It might be where people in your team are located, it might not be. In any case, you are still stuck in Zoom calls all day because people are distributed across the world. There's no longer any social events or any sort of team culture, because everyone is still spread out. I know COEs like to tote that returning to the office allows those random conversations that occur when you are getting coffee that lead to stronger products, but when your team isn't physically around, that still can't happen. Instead of actually returning to the office and gaining the benefits of that, we are in a world where we are returning to the office only to work like we're still remote workers, just with a commute time. Employees aren't stupid. All of them see through this sham. I'm actually against remote work for a number of reasons, but you can't half ass returning to the office like this. Instead they've just chosen the worst of both worlds.

This was already said once here, but that is a dangerous slippery slope to be on and the post 1:1 mirrors what I'd say about it.
And the funny thing is, ALL of these people who outsource or immigrate most of these people always fail long term, then need daddy government to prop them right back up, but while they're clogging our jobs made for actual American citizens who could get them long term good results without the need for bullshit. Just like they did in the past.

Anyone paying attention the last 5 years (and especially the last 2 since ChatGPT) has noticed that their “remote” co workers are slacking off.

I’m sorry if this is not you. I do know people busting their ass working remotely, but I’ve also worked with

- people secretly working second or third jobs and shafting work onto co workers

- people submitting AI slop for all work assignments and shafting work onto co workers

- people falling into adderall/alcohol/microdosing/whatever rabbit holes and submitting schizo slop for all work assignments …. And thus shafting work onto co workers


I am really fucking sick of it.
 
I refuse to have a LinkedIn. I don’t understand why companies pretend it’s nothing but a massive security risk.

Not only is a gift to spear phishing twats it’s also a massive brand risk.

She might have turned down someone who was working directly for or a contractor for intelligence services. She is a cancer that needs purged from every industry.

This is what I hate about recruiters and agencies, they do no fucking work. Have you ever been in a work agency building? Fat women and 19 year old fannies sat behind a desk pretending to be busy. Their job is to go out and find clients, but instead they run every CV through a computer system them picks out buzzwords from the CV and tells the agency if the cv is worth reading.
Lazy, illiterate fucks who deserve sacking the entire industry dismantling.

I very rarely want watchdog/government interference, but this agencies, who gatekeep all jobs in certain industries, need investigating.

The candidate worked for Amazon as a data architect, one of the most jeet-infested company and role combinations out there.

The recruiter is lazy but there’s a 99% chance that the candidate is a jeet lying about their work experience and education. Actual people with NDAs write high level descriptions about the type of work they did while leaving off the company name and/or specific details about the project. They don’t have a blank resume.
 
So they hired a bunch of useless fucks during the diversity years, and now are so incapable of measuring good work they have to overcorrect and make all employees lives miserable through draconian surveillance.
RTO is very specifically targeting several things, but overall an employee you drive to quit is an employee you no longer have to layoff, which removes the employee's entitlement to any severance packages or agreements - which often includes a 'surrender' of unvested stock as well as having the company absolved of any reporting requirements that a layoff would have.

Each employee you drive to quit this way is a significant financial gain for the company which is why doing it to thousands of employees is the current 'en vogue' thing at these massive companies.

This is infuriating. "All invisible to the very software scanning for candidates." Bitch, your job is to read them. They're designed to be human readable, not machine readable. We don't even know what is and isn't machine readable as job applicants, it's a black fucking box. This bitch is out of touch and her job is clearly already replaced with AI and she's not realized it.

So much can be said about how terrible the hiring process is and how people like her are cultish gatekeepers.
 
More likely a pajeet with a fake degree and fake job history. There are many more of them than there are people with super secret NDAs.
The NDA doesn't prevent you from acknowledging you work in x role for y company. It prevents you from sharing information not already disclosed by the company about your job. Usually it's not sharing the company's intellectual property and such.
 
A CV is just a fucking page long. This is horseshit. HR is just fucking useless.
HR will never spend one hour doing something that they could make someone else spend tens or hundreds of hours on instead. Everything they do is peak "Not my problem" in every encounter I've had with them in every business I've worked with. Individual HR members tend to be genuinely nice people, but something about their leadership ALWAYS turns actual work from them into hell.

I've always suspected its the consequences of the sorts of office politics you get when you have a primarily female section of an org with the power to fuck up any other part of the org, but I've never worked in an org with a majority male HR space so I've never been able to know.
