Articles & Happenings is the third attempt at a news board on the Kiwi Farms. It is a cursed place. Every moderator who has been assigned here has resigned within a year. During 2016, the political crossfire was so bad it spread to different boards and culminated in me banning American news discussion entirely for several months. It has been deleted in its entirety twice. There is no actual discussion here, it's people posting garbage. It leans much further right than the rest of the site and doesn't particularly conduct discussion because dissenting opinions are dogpiled by a thousand memelords posting shit they read on /pol/ without any critical analysis.

The only rules that can be enforced are empirical ones with boolean violation answers. New threads must cite a real source directly and must use the headline of the article as a thread title without any editorializing. Articles must be archived in some way and must link to the original article. Replies that are one word or a reaction images are automatic one-month bans from the board.

I'm creating this now because it seems like this place is here to stay and is one of the largest areas of the entire site. I might as well throw in bare minimum effort to improve it. I don't even try to find mods for here because they will quit, without exception. I've added new prefixes ("Business" and "Crime") just now.

Discuss.

New threads should be made like this.

I humbly submit a request for letting polls on article and news forum dear leader pretty please with sugar on top . I have had so many articles that needed polls for that extra layer of shitposting .

Couldn't you make a combined thread type?

And just as I typed that my brain went "too much work, too little gain."

A combined dating/incel thread like the Biden politics thread may be helpful, theres like 5 threads a day about dating and relationships which are just bait for some users.

Seconded. It's tough seeing fellow kiwis biting the bait every single time and going on long diatribes that are really just an excellent piece of evidence for why the Man-Hate Thread was created.

New prefix suggestion: "NEVER HAPPENED".

The LGB and especially the T are accustomed to deny wrongdoings by their own species. Whenever someone brings them up, their knee-jerk response is "It never happened". But a casual glance from the first few pages of A&N shows that what "never happened" happens all the time. I think a new prefix is justified. My mock up.

This tag would be appropriate for news items that involve:
  • Men pretending to be women in order to access to women places (bathrooms, shelters, prisons) and commit sexual assault.
  • Men pretending to be women to win women's sporting events, or to help themselves to scholarships or diversity quotas.
  • LGBT people turning out to be child molesters.
  • Schools / NGOs grooming young children to deviant sexual practices (anal sex, homosexuality, transsexualism). Schools bringing children to drag shows.
  • Children being fast-tracked to puberty blockers / cross-sex hormones.
  • Minor-aged youths being subjected to double mastectomy ("top surgery") or genital mutilation.
While most of these items pertains transsexualism in particular, there are enough that concerns the LGB that I use the generic rainbow flag rather than the transsexual flag.

I think [Never Happens] makes more sense than past tense. Because the meme is "The thing that never happens, happened."

I suggest a pointless necro for any thread older than sixth months be punishable by death.

Failing that a week ban or something. I don't know how/why people keep necroing 6+ m/o threads with just random commentary but it's annoying.

Null already does that, IIRC, though I think he might be the only one. I usually just delete the necro and lock the thread sometimes

Sometimes the necro can be justified, if there has been significant developments or substantial new information. For example a thread detailing an arrest might be necro'd a year later when the trial starts or merged with a new thread, depending on the circumstance. Random, pointless comments or memes don't really justify a necro, though.

Luckily we mostly have good staff that recognize when to take action.

That is true. When there's a rare useful necro, I leave those be.
We had the Nick Bate thread closed for years after he got the Inactive tag because it had degenerated into nothing but muttposting. There's still a bit of that but not enough to generate much of it compared to the utility of having it open if something confetti-inspiring happens like him getting murdered.
