In a sense, but that's pretty heavily counterbalanced by the fact that a startling amount of the people being judged here are people who have been getting away with things they very well shouldn't have been. Morality is important to some degree, but its also worth remembering that its used as a tool of control and almost always works on a "rules for thee but not for me" system. It was okay for Prince John to rob people, but if Robin Hood robbed Prince John, Johnny Boy would suddenly call it a crime.

I think about this sometimes. If my account here were linked to my legal name, my family and friends would have a hard time understanding what I post. I've spent around a decade reading occasional bits of suppressed or lesser-known history, medical literature, old news, population statistics, and other snippets of data that have formed my present worldview. I have decades of life experience with people of varied races, economic classes, religions and ethnic backgrounds. My statements here are made from that standpoint and cannot be interpreted faithfully otherwise.

My earnest wish is to build and live in a Star Trek future, where people of all races co-exist peacefully without coercion, deception or concealment. I want scientific truth to win out over political narrative. I want virtue, goodness, and good discipline to triumph over vice, malice, envy and vanity of all kinds. I want to live in a world where everyone can say racist jokes to everyone else, where narcissists can't shut me down with emotional blackmail, where the dream of Enlightenment values and virtues can lead humankind to achieving its full potential. I want to get there even if it means being temporarily and proportionately mean to the criminal underclass of historically oppressed groups, or to people in the grip of destructive ideologies, or to people caught in the grip of mental illness or addiction.

Maybe that utopia's impossible, but I hope that something like it lies in humanity's future. If this post survives to posterity I hope that this statement of mine is recorded and accepted. I believe it reflects the sentiment of many on the website.

I think the orbiters around people like CWC and Gunt are bad people, yes. This includes most of the readers of those message boards. At a certain point you're only fueling an individual's ability to self-destruct by continuing to provide attention.

That said, there is a role for the mockery of certain lolcows. There are some who will respond to mockery and have at least the opportunity to look clearly at themselves and consider a change. In other words, the positive side of bullying. There's also the need to expose the minions of satan's kingdom and not allow them to operate.

Is what we do wrong? Depends. Hounding someone who is incapable of understanding what they’re doing online or in person isn’t so good. The tard baby thread is one I keep out of for example, it just makes me sad
But think of it this way: tyranny flourishes ONLY when we can’t laugh at it. All tyrannical regimes, be they secular or religious crack down on mockery. Mock Islam and see what happens. Mock trannies and see what happens. Laughter is lethal poison to fundamentalists. They thrive on persecution, but mockery floors them.
Mockery and shame is also very important in keeping people on the straight and narrow. Shame based taboos kept people roughly in line and as we’ve removed them, society has gone downhill. This is one of the few places that still shames people. The day the perverts and truly bad people of this world know they are free from any chance of being mocked or held accountable is the day things take the final steps over the cliff.
