The 2019 Pros was a return to what people consider the best design and desktop Apple ever made. However they just weren't that great compared to the Pros of the past.
The 2019 Pro was designed right before AMD kicked Intel in the nuts so hard they spat their balls out. Intel's share of the workstation CPU market has fallen from over 90% to 5%. Krzanich deciding to spend hundreds of millions of dollars on diversity instead of EUV is hurting them to this day.

Intel lost it all - gamers, workstations, and now even fuckin Apple. I truly did not expect such a spectacularly fast fall from grace.

The solid gold Apple Watch has at last been declared obsolete, along with all other first generation models.

This private information is unavailable to guests due to policies enforced by third-parties.

I have to wonder if they'll appreciate in value as rare collectors' items, or at least the ones that were never opened, in mint condition. The number of units sold was reported to be in the "low tens of thousands". Unopened 1st gen iPhones appreciate in value, and I'd wager probably only a tiny fraction of the Watches (probably fewer than a thousand) are still in their original packaging.

One possible concern is whether the battery might swell in an unopened device. But it's probably still more profitable than melting it down.

(Note that the scrap value of the gold is barely $2,000. The majority of that $10,000 price tag did not go towards the purchase of precious metals, but was pure profit for Apple.)

And I thought people who bought Rolexes and the like were dumb.

Edit: Speaking of obsolete Apple stuff, my 2016-ish IPad Pro 9.7 has a battery that is now draining very quickly, like from 100% to 10% in 90 minutes doing nothing more than reading graphic novels, watching YouTube or browsing KF. Is there anything that can be reasonably done, or is this just the beginning of the end? I know they don't get the latest version of IPad iOS (17), so I'm guessing this is it, but, meh, can't hurt to ask.

They are, but at least a Rolex isn't obsolete in five years. 🤷‍♂️

Apple stores will refuse to repair products that are too old so if they refuse to work on it you can take it almost any local cell phone repair store.

The latest version of macOS makes it mandatory to use the latest version of xcode, and there is no option to downgrade. There's a trick to getting older versions to launch, but I generally don't like doing tricks or hacks to get things to work. I get a successful build maybe 1/10 times I use xcode 15, and it honestly feels like I'm QAing the product more than using it. The official apple support threads give me file system urls of caches to try deleting to no avail, and I can't believe this is /the way/ to write apps supported for Apple devices. Apple FUBAR.

that's awful, that sounds like a 1 year old android tablet.

Try to sell it now

Intel is the lolcow of semiconductor companies.

I HATE THE ANTICHRIST INTEGRATED DEVELOPMENT ENVIRONMENTS

I'll have to check into this. Probably won't bother

I had a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1" that ran for six or seven years. About the same life as this IPad, but something like 1/3 the price. I'll grant the interface was nowhere near as smooth, the Samsung uninstallable bloatware could be annoying AF, but for that difference in price... 🤷‍♂️

Never had an issue with battery life, either. However, when it started to slow down/could no longer get Android updates I tried to root it and managed to horribly fuck everything up with Malware. Even a factory re-set didn't work. Who knew you can't trust random YouTube tutorials?

Try to sell it now

What was around $1000 new in 2016 is now selling for under $200, refurbished. What "refurbished" actually means, I have no idea, but that's what's out there. I guess a chunk of the price drop is that Apple is no longer supporting the model, but for that resale I might as well just hand onto it for as long as I can. Plus mine has a small crack on the screen, which likely reduces the resale value even more. Oh, well.[/QUOTE]

I'm not ashamed to give credit to Apple and here's my two kudos:

Magsafe Wireless charging is the first wireless charging actually is worth it. For years Samsung has had wireless charging and it sucked because the phone could easily not be in proper place and it was slow. Conceptually I love wireless charging because I want to reduce wear and tear on the usb-c port. If I had a recent iPhone I'd love using the MacSafe, it's a well made product. Samsung is slacking not to have their equivalent by now. LAST MINUTE ADDITION: So google claims you can just add a cheap magnetic plate to the back of your Android will work with Magsafe? Is that for real because why they don't just add that magnet is silly. I can't help but think this is a bullshit sold on Amazon because Apple loves have proprietary tech.

Secondly yeah I am jealous of the new iPhone camera. It might not be as technically advanced as Samsung's current Ultra (haven't seen that one yet) but as a casual's camera the picture I've taken with it take are quite amazing with no tinkering on the user's end. I can't even process how new cameras are able to take such excellent night photography. Just that portrait mode is really well designed.

If I had to upgrade my phone I'd still stick with Samsung, but the narrative that oh Apple's just repackaging old shit and charging you more it just isn't totally true. There's still downsides to Apple, why they can't steal Android's three UI buttons but instead insist you use convoluted swiping motions is convoluted. But Samsung needs to stop dicking around with FOLDABLE CELL PHONES because Apple is focusing on practicality. Like I get it it's fun in a James Bond way that you can have insane zoom on the Samsung camera, but zooming that far in makes the picture look like shit so what good is it ultimately?

After watching 100s of Apple vs. Android videos, I have come to the conclusion that most of the anti-Apple arguments are no longer true. For example, there is no headphone jack, no SD card, and no removable battery. No customization no wallpaper, copy and paste, etc. All of the bad things mentioned are out of date, as Samsung and most Androids have copied every bad feature of Apple, so what's another argument aside from the fact that I can't customize every aspect and there's no sideloading?

Apple's demographic has been more blacks than ever, so when the fuck are they coming out with their next product called the Arkansas Black?
