I have to admit, I missed this for over a month and can only chuckle at it.

Having spoken with an anthropology professor previously, he noted that anti-vaxxers are a mounting threat to the general populace due to the increasing ease with which affected people may travel. Transcontinental airliners and other very rapid transportation have enabled pathogens to be easily carried across vast distances literally overnight. The geographical features (particularly oceans) that once afforded humanity some protection from affected populations are extremely uncommon now. Because some ailments can express themselves subtly--if at all--it would be quite easy for some ill individual to make their way into effecting dozens of people before the problem is even recognized.

Anti-vaxxers are a very real public health danger. I'm not sure why they're tolerated given how acute the problem is.

I think people are too willing to say "it's their choice" and such when that so called "personal" choice is not restricted to affecting just one person but also subjects others to its consequences.

Think about it like smoking: you make a personal choice to smoke--fine--but in doing so, you are also subjecting anyone who inhales the smoke to second-hand smoke. Whoever else breathes in that smoke was not given a stake in your personal decision making. Yet now that personal decision to smoke is no longer personal--it now affects others.

Choosing not to vaccinate has very similar parameters given that the transmission of pathogens can be through the air in a similar fashion to second-hand smoke.
 
I want to give each and every one of these fuckers tetanus. It's one of the most painful diseases out there, plus they can't pass it on to others. Let them see happens without vaccines.
(As I stated earlier in this thread, that's how an uncle of mine died as a kid)

While few people would probably shed tears for anti-vaxxers, it's also important to remember that in many cases there is a distinct legal component to this. That is--in many cases, anti-vaxxers' actions are outright illegal. If this is tolerated, it legitimizes their behavior and other illegal activities by suggesting no penalties will follow for such violations.

Anti-vaxxers, who hurt society by risking fights it should no longer have to worry about, also stab it in the back by undermining the rule of law. Amusingly, the moment they are called on this they immediately find a skirt robe in a courtroom to hide behind, crying about "muh rights!"

They're dindu nothings that really haven't done anything. They didn't get educated; they didn't get help on matters beyond their grasp and they didn't do the right thing.

So they're criminals who need to be locked up... I approve of this, honestly. Too bad jail time alone won't truly fix this - not to mention other unfortunate impications.
 
Reminded myself of this quirky animated short from the past based on a book telling kid why vaccinations are important. It's true how important education is in all this...

Eh, not every anti-vaxxer is a trendy lefty (though some are in that neck of the woods). Anti-vaxxers seem collected less along the political left, right or center but under the average IQ line.

Minus some grifters like Wakefield, most of the anti-vaxxers I have seen are rather naive or--to be blunt--stupid. The tie-in to politics is limited to the fact that again appears to be a fringe bit.
 
*SIGH* I can't wait for it to be made law that you must get vaccinated when things get desperate enough. Too bad that's gonna be a pipe dream for a LOOOOONG-ass time, since Trump doesn't believe in saving lives like most really smart people do. Just one of many reasons why I have such low expectations, going forward. We can't bring back jobs and shit to sick people who refuse to take care of themselves properly.
