I swear CN has produced anime in the past but most have been forgotten. The only one I can remember is IGPX (inline skating mechs) But I swear there where a few others I'm forgetting
Yeah IGPX was a collaboration between Production I.G, and Cartoon Network around 2003. For what it's worth the show was pretty enjoyable from what I remember. But this was the CN of the early 2000s, not the mess it is today.

On a drunken whim we started watching the new Shaman King and two days later and a lot more alcohol almost done with it.

I read the comic in Shonen Jump when I was subscribed for the first few years. I kind of forced myself to read because it was the closest thing to a the JoJo stand concept we had in english at the time, but I can't say I really recall much of an opinion I had for it other than I've always wondered if the creator was a low key gay stoner (his future work only works to enforce this belief).

Haven't honestly thought much of the comic since then, never saw the old series, but this has been a fun little show. Has a bunch of tropes I hate from the era (One Piece reaction faces, "WHAAAAAT!? NOW I'M GONNA REPEAT ALL THE EXPOSITION U JUST SAID!!", generally dumb attempts at being funny). even the animation and english dub looks and sounds like something from the 00's. But for whatever reason, I just keep on watching it.

Reminds me of Yu-Gi-Oh, another guilty pleasure I'll watch whenever I see it on something and I'm bored. Dumb as hell but too fun not to like and riff over.

Hey doods, I heard Jojolion just finished quite some time ago. I read about half of it and got a little burnt out. I was wondering if its worth finishing?

I loved the Shaman King anime when I was a kid. I decided to read the manga in 2017 and of course I loved it too. I was very excited about the new anime but then I read the reviews. Apparently it isn't that good.
The author made another manga after SK with Stan Lee. The story has this pedo vibe with the robot boys that fight and shit.
Nekogahara is pretty neat tho.

Oh my bad, I could've sworn it was.
The main story is done. There’s one more epilogue chapter dropping in a week or so and that’s it. So for all intents and purposes it’s finished.

It’s by far the longest and most meandering Jojo part, and honestly it never really gets to the point at all - the last arc is simultaneously an incredibly rushed villain introduction and dispatch while somehow being a complete slog to read through with tons of filler that shouldn’t have existed. Yes, I’m still salty about 10 fucking chapters of rock insect fights that REALLY didn’t need to happen.

Granted, it probably reads a lot easier when you’re doing it in one go. But IMO it’s the worst Jojo part by far. It’s very ambitious and has a lot of good ideas, but the execution suffers hard because Araki’s off-the-cuff writing style is REALLY not suited to stories where the overarching narrative is actually important.

I had no expectations of it and so I'm probably enjoying it more than a fan.

It's pretty much like McDonalds, taste good but no substance beyond the sheer amount of boy skin that was becoming so ridiculous I was thinking this has to be a twink parody of Hokuto, especially with that Tao Ren brat riding a horse and his stand being a love child of Star Platinum and Raoh lol.

Sanpei Sato is a manga author known for the Fuji Santaro series of four-panel manga, which launched in the Asahi Shimbun in 1965, among other works. Sadly, at the age of 91, the creator passed away last Saturday at a Tokyo hospital as a result of aspiration pneumonia.

Beyond Fuji Santaro, which centered on a salaryman, Sato was known for the Dotanba no Manners manga, which focused on a man named Dotanba who always finds himself in various social situations. The social etiquette series launched in 1982 and went on to inspire a 283-episode short-form TV anime that ran from 1984 to 1987.

Sato’s contributions to academic and artistic developments, improvements, and accomplishments landed him the Purple Ribbon Medal in 1997, and he was also awarded the Order of the Rising Sun Small Ribbon in 2006 for all of his accomplishments over the years.

Family members say that Sato became sick in June and went to the hospital to be treated. Prior to that, he hadn’t been writing for roughly the past two years of his life. Our thoughts go out to his family and friends.

Boy skin? Well... now that you mention it, I remember the manga had some suspicious content of grown men being a bit too friendly with teenage boys.

I don't remember if it was here or Unpopular Opinions, but someone complained about in Fate/Stay Night the character designs are recycled over adaptions. I'll say it's correct but there is something nifty when the characters still embody traits from the original characters or, alternatively, are the complete opposites.
The best examples of the former being Ereshkigal and Ishtar who are clearly Rin, while the best example of the latter is Red Saber who's different in just about everything to a hilarious degree.

Also the Camelot film is pretty disappointing.

Tatami Galaxy sequel anime got announced, its been years since I watched the original so I might give it another go.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=NGnqCOb88cUAlso checked out the Shirobako movie in theaters, it was a lot of fun, while the musical number felt silly the different styles they did made it fun and the characters were just as entertaining as in the show. The ending felt a bit rushed, but on the whole it was a nice experience.

tatami galaxy got a sequel? that movie was pretty good (same characters but different unrelated world). cant wait for it.

did you watch shirobako the series? the song referenced the animes created in by musani and the studios. series' english dub is on par with flcl dub, near 1:1 voice casting with the japanese dub.

I remember watching Apocrypha recently and being surprised by how enjoyable it was. I remember someone in this thread talking about how they thought the visuals were, while flashy, not exactly groundbreaking. I'm inclined to agree. What really sells it is the sound design and the writing. They actually do a pretty decent job of making you care about the characters.

Also,
Being able to force your opponents into a one on one fistfight to the death has to be the most absurd display of machismo you could possibly have as a superpower and I absolutely love it.

I watched it when it first came out, its been a while, but I remembered enough of the original. This movie wouldn't probably work well without seeing it, though.
I never checked out the english dub, actually.

Man in Gundam Suit wielding two samurai swords: How do you do, fellow Nips?

It's gonna be crap no matter what it's about. Anime without any culture.

Going to watch Evangelion 3.0+1.01 tonight since it finally arrived on Prime. End of an era, really - a crying shame it didn't get the theatrical release overseas that it deserved.

sentai dubbed it last year. which is pretty weird since shirobako is a 6 year old anime that they already sold as a 2 volume subtitle only blurays 5 years ago. the english voice actoress sings the theme songs in japanese, so they put in a lot of effort for a niche series.

the new dub set is a single vol and hella cheaper than the 2 vol subs only set. crossing my fingers sentai gets to put out the movie with the same english cast.

but yeah, the movie is incomprehensible without familiarity of the tv show. i wish sentai doesnt get fucked by sony, funi or ann in the future.
