I already have the Mamo DVD. The Blu-Ray is going to be that, but higher quality.

Really, I think we're all waiting for them to release Ninja Robots.

DISCOTEK SAVED US
Discotek is not the savior of the American anime industry or anything. It's filled with too many Anime News Network and other industry circlejerking faggots for it to be.

They've censored the subtitles of Samurai Pizza Cats' original Japanese track. Then there was them getting their panties in a twist over the Lupin special with a gay nazi villain and wrote linear notes kvetching about anime's supposed rampant homophobia.

Cutie Honey the Live
Sayuki Reload
Gunbuster
Girls Air Force
Lupin Mystery of Momo
Samurai Troopers
Lupin vs Conan

I believe the world just simultaneously came
Gunbuster
Holy shit, I've been wanting this for years and had basically given up hope on owning the OVA and not the movie. Also apparently another series they're releasing Machine Robo has never been full subbed passed some crabsticks so it's nice to see them putting such a niche show out.

Just wish Discotek titles were a bit easier to get outside the states.

Being honest, I don't really care because the work that Discotek puts into bringing out titles that no other company will bother with, especially those that don't even have much in the way of fan-translation, is much more important to me. Just the sheer amount of time and effort they're putting into stuff like Prokect A-ko makes me appreciate their passion for anime, same thing I feel for the guys over at animeigo. Even then, I wouldn't consider Discotek itself "full" of anything because most of the people that work there are through contract/freelance work. When you compare them to most of the other current members of the American anime industry they are by far the best if you care about older anime and half decent releases.

This I will agree is bad. Had never heard of it since I think the dub was what got most people to buy so they didn't bother bringing the Japanese sub over onto blu-ray. Not like they had the space since all the episodes were crammed on one disc, which is the biggest complaint I could find.

This doesn't matter to me because I don't have to read the linear notes to enjoy the special, it's entirely optional, even then the one you posted isn't even bad since it's just noting some behind the scenes trivia. By doing so they were able to release the special practically untouched (as far as I know) because they made sure to add a disclaimer for the more sensitive audiences. If that upsets you, just literally get up and make some popcorn or something until the actual special starts and it'll have practically zero impact.

Same sort of disclaimer system is often used to release old pieces of media that feature 'problematic' material as a means of not having to cut said offensive content, which I think is a win-win for both crowds. It's super common in helping older films release today without having to cut content by putting in a disc extra discussing the 'problematic' content in depth or even just putting a note at the beginning of the film. Would much rather have to deal with a disclaimer on my screen for 10 seconds or an extra that I can ignore (or watch and find it interesting) than having entire scenes/plot points cut or re-edited.

They went back and retranslated it when the sub appeared on Crunchyroll. Look at the first episode there - the gay jokes are intact.

Look at what they did with the Ninja Robots dub, for example; the damn thing only appeared on TV in Australia and Southeast Asia and was practically lost - and now they have all but two minutes of it! Somehow they pulled it off, and the dub's been preserved.

They're a shit company ran by and staffed by predominently shitheads, but you can't deny they're one of the absolute best in Western anime to pirate from thanks to the titles they put out which are usually obscure shit. Plus you're stealing money/sales from assholes, so it's a win-win.

You know, there are still some people that turn up their noses at anime for reasons like this (from a Metroid thread of me asking why they dislike anime aesthetics popping up in games like Samus Returns):

The Fanbase Really doesn’t like Japan’s view of the series. Metroid.png

Would you say those sorts of critiques are accurate? How would you respond?

Tropes, stereotypes and archetypes exist in every format of fiction, it's just how they're used that's the important part. I'd tell them to get to get over themselves in the same way an anime purist who despises western media for similar reasons needs to.

This person I could argue has a very small sample size that they are judging the whole by, which isn't an accurate approach when making wide sweeping statements like that. Sample size sounds like "I watched some shounen anime once" and not much else.

You can dilute any character down to such basic archetypes if you stripe them of their substance. Like Samus, if I stripped her down would be something like the "stoic strong one" that they're complaining about anime using, but most likely if you told them that they'd moan about how "that's not true because of x" like the same thing can't be used against them. Their last paragraph is a lame attempt to handwave the rightful criticism they are going to get from people giving numerous examples of when they're wrong is also peak reddit. Archetypes aren't a bad thing as long as a writer properly fleshes it out and takes it beyond that.

lol, imagine taking a Redditard’s shitty opinion seriously instead of laughing at how stupid it is.

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Part 6: Stone Ocean hits Netflix of all places this December
https://youtube.com/watch?v=EeCX8Y0a278
I'm willing to put up with Netflix as long as it means they keep the Stand names in the subs and also because it's a better alternative to Crunchyroll. (Though wait, the dub's had to change some of the names, too, right? I dunno.)

Just remember that if you'd argue about women in western media only being a single category (bitchy better-than-thou lesbian) those people will lose their shit.

Chiaki Konaka (of Digimon Tamers fame among others) has posted his thoughts on the... press surrounding the Digimon Tamers 2021 script reading on his personal blog.
Link to the post
(I'm on mobile right now so I'll give my thoughts on it later)
The post is all in English, which means translation isn't necessary.
Alright, now that the site's back up (for now), I can finally give my thoughts (now editing this, this is more a mixture of my thoughts and a summary of the post... so I've spoilered it for anyone who wants to skip it).

First, he completely places the creation of the drama on himself and not Toei or those who organized Digifest 2021, which... I guess is fine, not much else to say there.

Then he says that since it "is not a show that can be legitimately viewed by people outside of Japan," he is "not inherently responsible for expressing my opinions to the international community." Which I guess could be a dig at those who illegally obtained it and then subbed it lol. He does say that it probably would have made it internationally eventually, given what happened with the Digimon Tamers 2018 CD drama (which again is fine).

Apparently Konaka's idea of a direct follow up to DT 2018 was canned, which sucks, but there's not much else to say there other than "that's unfortunate."

He talks about the struggle DT 2018 had with VAs (as Renamon's VA had retired), and that this translated over to DT 2021 as a result of that. Also Guilmon/the narrator's VA (Masako Nozawa) had to be pre-recorded (which was obvious from viewing the drama since she wasn't on stage with the other VAs at all)

More about the VAs of the 2 of the MCs (Takato and Henry/Jian) and also why Takato was not given an adult voice for DT 2018/2021.

He drops a bombshell (and this is directly from him): Therefore, "2021" is a continuation of "2018" and a live version of "2018". for any fans who wanted 2021 to be non-canon... well there's your answer lmao
He wanted it to be more about a "virtual enemy" (not referring to a Digimon) as (again, directly from him) "Tamers is not set in the "near future," but in the present day."

Now, here's the big thing: he starts talking about COVID and what the mainstream media (both in Japan and the US) are talking about it. By that I mean Japan calling positive PCR tests "cases" (I'm not a health expert so I have no idea what a PCR test is) and how he does believe COVID is real, but that it's overhyped, even saying that the number of "applicants" in 2020 was lower than in 2019 in Japan (and no, I don't know what an "applicant" is either).

I was frustrated by the exclusion of alternative journalists from the major platforms, and by the fact that the counter perspective was hidden.
Basically like us here, nothing wrong with that (people got on his ass for no reason).
There were people who accused me of having a particular label.
I've never expressed any particular political beliefs.
There was no anime that brought more diversity to that era than "Digimon Tamers".
So I was sad, but don't worry.
As I mentioned earlier, my plan "2020" has already been cancelled.
I guess he's trying to say that people were assuming he was "alt-right" without actually looking at anything he's said. (which is true)
"I will leave the Digimon Tamers 2021 blog to be read in the future by those who liked the original Tamers, and I will delete any comments that accuse me of being a bad person.

A lot of people have defended me and told me not to apologize, but it's very hard to see such a divide among the fans.
Let me just apologize for the fact that I caused it to happen.
You shouldn't need to apologize lol
Yeah, it's not his fault that he wanted to say a tiny, nearly harmless belief (that just happened to use a few buzzwords).

I do have to admit that his comment that "I will delete any comments that accuse me of being a bad person" sounds weird when he said that "cancel culture is bad" in DT 2021, but I don't think it means anything malicious, just if someone attempts to slander him in the comments, then he'll delete that comment.

Caught up with jujutsu kaisen and my god that was a ride. Maybe since this is the right thread I can ask this question.

Major spoilers for the manga: Aight so i'm a bit confused tbh? So Gojo is sealed and banished from the Jujutsu world and is to be executed on site. So why are they letting Yuuta roam around since he is a distant relative to Gojo? Is Yuuta only alive because he made a binding vow with that one woman to kill Itadori? Is he still safe or since he's already "fulfilled his goal of killing Itadori" he might be hunted due to his connection to Gojo? Also if somebody can explain what "Geto" was going on about when he awoke Tsumiki from her coma that would be appreciated because I still have no fucking clue what he meant.

Time to jump on the demon slayer manga!

Also, anyone think Discotek might throw hell teacher nube on a disk one day? Or am I being very optimistic?

I was catching up with the animetube scam (not talking about anime yt but a Kickstarter that claimed to start a new streaming service that would make CR and funi obsolete and scammed almost 100k) and I started to wonder if a service like Steam or audible were you pay to download something will pop up eventually for anime (so essentially a legal nyaa with a pay wall).
I might say maybe since there are a few sites that do this with e-versions of manga and LNs and a few sites kinda do this, but I think the biggest obstacles are that getting the license for distributing a series is separate from the license for streaming it and it seems like most of the big money is around seasonal shows.

Nana is being reprinted!
First coming are volumes 1 & 2, 3 and beyond are coming later (3 says it's coming January 7, 2022). This is kind of big, these books were going for quite a lot of money when the first print ran out. Better jump on it if you want to finish a collection or start one.

Nana is one of my all-time favorites and I only have volumes 13-21. I had been considering getting the digital versions of the rest and now I'm glad I held off.
