Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song: Really enjoyed it. You never know what you're gonna get with an anime-original, but the story kept me engaged throughout. Neat designs as well. Some quibbles with the time travel stuff, but I'm willing to let it slide since good time travel is pretty damn hard to write. The piano ED gave me all kinds of emotions.
Zombieland Saga Revenge: Loved it, I'm so glad that they finally got around to a second season. Not only did they move the story forward, they filled in more of the backstory and fleshed out the world some more; the Yugiri episodes were a highlight (as well as proof that she's best girl). Comedy remained top-notch, and there were some fantastic new songs too. There had better be a season 3; you don't get to end on an ayy lmao invasion and not follow up on it!
86: Kind of dragged in the beginning and middle, but it really picked up for me as it progressed towards the end. The weakest part was the very heavy-handed racism metaphor, and I felt like my eyes were glazing over anytime the white-hairs were going on about how 86ers were subhuman and so they can die whatever. However, when the plot moved beyond that and focused on the last remaining survivors, I got emotionally engaged again, with the last episode being quite heavy. Season 2 is coming in the fall, and I'll be checking it out.
SSSS.Dynazenon: I guess I'm going against the grain here, but I liked this one a lot too. I didn't really have the same issues with the plot or characters; it didn't quite reach the heights that Gridman did, but I found it to be entertaining nonetheless. Gauma was a particular delight. Trigger might have a mixed record, but I'm still engaged with these Gridman series, and with a Gridman x Dynazenon series already greenlit, I'm looking forward to it.
Nomad: Megalobox 2: Out of the series I watched, this would be my pick for anime of the season. Megalobox was incredible, and pulling off a good sequel was a tall order, but I think they did great. It's not just a repeat of the first season's story, instead picking up years later after tragedy tears Team Nowhere apart. It gave Joe a new bottom to start from and a new goal to work towards. Not only that, but the other boxers also had their own arcs that they went through, which really added to the overall plot. A very different story with a satisfying ending, backed up by that unique artstyle. I'd be happy to see more, but if they end it there, that's also fine by me.
