Yeah that’s also an issue honestly the best way to do an Isekai parody is to make original characters not based on anyone (but inspiration from the very bad isekai like smartphone for example) since a lot of the popular isekai that are well liked beyond just the target demographic of self insert faggots have flawed protagonists.
Konosuba really is the gold standard for an isekai, parody or otherwise, in my opinion.

It manages to nail the goal of making fun of the self-insert super powered protagonist isekai, as well as having an interesting enough story of it's own that it makes you want to watch beyond "This is making fun of SAO I'm so big brained" ironic watching.

Finally finished Odd Taxi, the last episode was great, its a really nice and short mystery with a fun and pretty spooky end. I'd definitely reccomend it, though it is unfortunate that a lot of the details ended up in the audio dramas, like the details behind the pen that keeps appearing.

Higurashi Sotsu is out, premiered with not one, but 2 episodes. It's kinda boring tbh, just like the last season later onwards.

This version of Rina was wasted potential, they could've had a version of her like the Hojo redemption arc from Gou. I wish they do something like it later on cause it'd be nice to see the gold digger thot changing her ways due to feeling sorry for Reina in a personal way.

Figured I would Share, 3.0+ 1.0 is getting it's global premier on Amazon Prime on the 13th of August.

Eva Is one of the few anime properties I've ever been invested in and as much as I like it I am dreading the resurgence of all the gatekeeping faggot assholes who cling to the series.
There's a rumor going around the dub is not going to be done by the Rebuild cast (mostly consisting of the original actors) but of the newer cast who did the redub. Fuck that shit if true.

The final episode of Wonder Egg Priority came out and it spent half of the runtime as a recap, the second one in its 13 episode run. Not only that, but it managed to explain literally nothing, actually added more questions and ended on a sequel bait.
The people the main characters spent the whole series to save immediately forgot about them, and the main character's friend turning out to be a borderline bitch who forced a teacher at her old school into committing suicide and whose own suicide was a botched attempt to threaten the teacher with rape unless he'd have sex with her.
The villian got away with it, or at least I think she did because the whole thing was so convoluted and word salad-y I blanked out. The homosexual scientists didn't really do anything either, they just sort of hung around the while time. Turns out one of the main characters was an AI clone all along. Why? I don't know. They entirely off screened her fight, too.

If anything, I'd go as far as too say that the whole show gives off the feel that it was created by people who secretly hate women. The fact that they left it with sequel bait is so funny its bizarre, but if I'd have to say one positive thing, at least it was pretty. The Russian teenager they got off of Twitter did a really good job.
People ended up in the hospital for this.

That’s all but confined. With how Funimation botched 3.0’s release, and how their employees have been repeatedly shit-talking Khara on social media, it’s clear that they’ve destroyed whatever working relationship they might have had with Khara 10 years ago.

So while the site is still up I just wanted to say I saw the Demon Slayer movie today. Theaters had opened back up here and while browsing for future release dates for much delayed films I was surprised to see that it was actually getting a release where I was. Overall, film was really great and I could feel ufotable flexing its animation chops the entire time, can see why the film is really well liked.

In other news, I've almost finished up the anime I was watching last season with only 4 shows left to get done. Will post my final thoughts on each when I'm fully done and hopefully the site will be still up when I do.

That will be terrible especially if they also have the team from the Netflix redub writing it who really fucked up.

I hear that Vision of Escaflowne and The Twelve Kingdoms are genuinely good Isekai and they were made before Isekai became a mainstay genre with SAO and all the weird shit that brought from 2012 onward.
...yeah, about Escaflowne. I mean it starts off pretty good and goes strong for awhile, but then...things just kind of happen and doesn't happen.

As for me, I recently watched Darling in the FranXX for some reason and boy that was something bad. Terrible characters (terrible generally meaning boring, annoying and/or useless) besides Zero Two although her character still gets tarnished with the way she's handled throughout the latter half of the show; shallow tension, drama, and mystery all of which get fairly quickly resolved once they show up over, and over, and over again, and to tie everything up in a nice bow, love and friendship wins the day because. The sad thing is, that I might have tolerated half the crap the show tried to pull off if it had stuck to just being low brow and fun, but no. Fun pretty much gets chucked out the door around the halfway point, and things just happen.

Escaflowne is pretty interesting but it definitely tapers off near the end. One of those "best watched while abusing substances" deals.

After watching all three of the Fate/Stay Night: Heavens Feel movies and the Demon Slayer movie.

I can honestly say Ufotable has firmly cemented themselves as the current king of anime movies for me.

They go all out.

Seriously, where do they get the budget? Are blu-ray sales that high or are they paying their animators even less than everyone else?

I honestly have no idea. It is nuts tho. I know they have around 200+ people working for them and two teams going at the same time usually.

It would seem the main directors/teams currently are: Tomonori Sudō and Haruo Sotozaki. Sudō does the Fate/Stay Night movies and Sotozaki does all Demon Slayer stuff(Series and Movie).

I feel like they're stretching with who some of the designs are meant to represent, you could probably make a solid case for Ainz but the rest just seem coincidental.

What do you guys think?

Some people are bringing up a solid point on why they even bothered to approve of the manga in the first place if they knew it was going to get cancelled after the first chapter.

Subaru's expy is named Honda which gave me a chuckle though.

They forgot the JSDF

I can only assume on those big releases they get quite a hefty budget along with enough production time to give that extra polish. I imagine that funders like Aniplex, Shueisha, and Bandai Namco (ufotable does the animation for their big titles like the Tales of series) give them quite a bit of money as I can't see them being strapped for cash.

[...] are they paying their animators even less than everyone else?
I can't see them doing this as it would be very hard to keep the talent they have doing so. Personally, I would think they'd be similar to Kyoani when it comes to QoL for its employees. Plus, looking at pictures of their offices on the "Studio Tour" section of their site it doesn't look that bad a place to work.

I don't know if it even counts as a PL, but talking with someone from the animation industry they gave me some insights on how ufotable might be able to make such high quality animation(purely based on speculation and their own experience mind you). Big thing is that ufotable must have a pretty strong "cgi pipeline" as they put it, meaning that they have people very knowledgeable in making use of cgi and beefy enough computers to deal with it. Having this is very useful with things like backgrounds since they can basically fully create it all digitally and then manipulate it as much as they want, ufotable probably makes use of Deep Canvas techniques a lot for their backgrounds. Old, but good explanation of what Deep Canvas is with it probably being far more advanced nowadays:
Having this means they'll take a lot less time putting everything together along with the ability to pull off a lot of slick stuff that is either very tedious or outright impossible to do without cgi. A lot of other anime studios seem to still be struggling with integrating cgi, but ufotable seems to be one of those that fully embraced it and mastered it. It's not just with backgrounds that a good grasp of cgi helps, but also stuff like lighting and effects (something like the waves around Tanjiro's sword when using a form as an example).

Man, I still feel so divided on that show even now. I definitely agree that it has problems, especially once the second half hits (they were basically making up said half as they went along), and it really loses steam at the end. And yet, I can't say I dislike the show either, as it still contains some of my all time favorite moments in anime, and I honestly think that the relationship between Hiro and Zero two is also one of my most liked pairings in anime as well.

I barely see any appeal to this show besides Zero Two, the animation, cinematography, some of the designs (particularly the mechs), and some tracks. Try to compare this show to say G Gundam. In that show, guess what happens in the end. You pretty much have "love and friendship" win the day there too, but whereas it feels completely stupid and sort of out of left field in Darling in the Franxx, in G Gundam, it feels like something you'd expect given how absolutely ridiculous that show was from pretty much beginning to end.
