Anybody heard of Medabots?

View attachment 2135216

It was an anime geared towards kids. The premise is that children and adults use robots called Medabots and they fight each other in matches called robobattles. The winner was able to get one piece from their losers medabot. I remember liking it a lot as a kid and forgot about it until I found a YouTube channel called Medabots Episodes. The YouTube channel has nearly all the episodes from the earlier seasons. I'm really into building robot figurines so I thought it would be nice to share.

I grew up on that shit and yes it's rad.

I remember watching a handful of episodes growing up, I even got one of those buildable Hasbro Medabot action figure model kits for Christmas one year. I also remember this one kid who thought the show was real and claimed to have a full-sized one as well, but now I think he was just crazy.

I'm watching "Belladona of Sadness" tonight
Had no idea the rape would be very early
It's quite artistic
I saw it in a theater with a friend of mine. If you want to know why movie theaters should continue to exist, see that film in a theater. I've never had an experience like it again (though I could have if COVID hadn't derailed Son of the White Mare).

Nagatoro episode was good, although some people are a little annoyed with a change from manga to anime. Nagatoro kissing Sempai’s cheek got changed to tricking him into kissing a toy.
Well of course they did, they're doing the same thing dragon ball did by drawing out the conflict for a gorillion episodes. You can't expect a form of pay off that early.

First episode of Zombieland saga was great. I'm excited for the second.

How's the second season did Tae and the meiji girl get backstory yet?

Wait what?! That's awesome. lol

I think he still mind crushes people to a lesser extent, but yugi straight up used to physically maim and kill dudes left and right.
Season 0 was fucked up and I wish the author made another series like it.

Even Toei had to tone a lot of that down, so it wouldn't have really mattered. But yeah, the Pharaoh was pretty sadistic. Also learning Yugi was just your average horny teenager trading porn tapes and ogling his best friend compared to the anime (4KIDS notwithstanding) was a "childhood ruined" moment right there lol.

Hilariously enough, they gave her sexy proportions and I think even a panty shot in the movie, and the audience I was with lost their shit over it. It was great.

Like damn, girl.
I don't remember that in the movie, but in the Manga Joey and Tristain made a panty cannon to push up skirts, and Tea was nearly taken advantage of by a pervert with a video camera until Yami stepped in to mind crush him. May have been anime only I think.
I think they also implied that Tea and Yugi were much closer in the movie compared to the series. Not couple tier, but definitely close.
I mean they were friends for the longest time outta the group, but it was pretty cute. Shipping wise I prefer Tea x Joey but that's neither here nor there.

Also, never forget Kaiba has his own body count as well and the fact he found an ACTUAL ESCAPED MURDERER to put in his themepark of death, and Joey killed that guy lighting him on fire.

Happened also in the manga, but characters and setting were definitely changed for that. The manga's pervy character was like a fat palm-reader but he did it to feel up girls and Téa Anzu was his number one priority to grope once he knocked her out with chloroform.

Again, was pretty eye-opening to read the manga in high school. But prior to Duelist Kingdom, the manga was pretty sadistic and it was awesome. Shame it stopped doing that (kinda tried to make a comeback during Battle City), although I think it was hand-waved away in-series as the Pharaoh being influenced by Yugi's good-hearted nature.

Not in the show. There's an hour-long video of Yugiri vtubing as a bar hostess that might have something in it, but it's not subbed.

Oh yea now I remember that part.
I dunno how I forgot that but remembered Joey was like "Hey Yugi do you need your insulin" which was a one off line in a tinny bubble.

Hell I remember Shadi straight up killed a man too, and Tea beat the shit outta a dude so much his teeth came out.

But I agree I miss the whole "dark vibe" duelist kingdom had it's moments where Yami was being a sadistic little shit like the whole "no im boutta kill Kaiba so Yugi can see his grandpa" part and Yugi broke down to stop that shit.

Regarding "Yu-Gi-Oh" fandom:
In deviantart there are fangirls making their own "Yu-Gi-Oh: Season 0" doujins, and some still active artists that pair their oc's with the male canon characters.

Also raises the question of how she has anything left of her body.
Iirc they do mention that in s1 as a mystery, considering bodies are usually cremated in japan (doubly so for Ai). Even then, the freshest corpse was Lily and she was like 6 years dead by the first season
The biggest hint we have towards Yugiri is the large scar on her neck, suggesting death by decapitation

Anyone's watching Thunderbolt Fantasy? (Granted it's puppetry not anime but still)

One of the characters pulled out a nendroid merch out of a bag and it's canonically a communication device, I laughed like an idiot for a solid minute.

God damnit, I expected the entire episode for some bombshell revelation only to check back and find it was a post about a gag.

It was a fucking hilarious gag though.

Currently am doing a (second) rewatch with a brother whom hasn't seen it yet, and it looks like Saionji's gonna be our in-joke as of episode 8 given his behavior in how he and Anthy keep an exchange diary. The way he just stands outside the window practically demanding "she" write in the diary properly just further enforces Utena's thoughts about him lol. Like it's probably not the first time he's done that, too, like every time his engagement to Anthy was broken, he must've silently seethed outside of everyone's windows.

But then my brother completely lost it in the final shot, so yeah. Guess Saionji's his fav, currently.

The anime was based on a mostly Japan-only video game series which are released in pairs like Pokemon(but the versions are always called Kabuto version and Kuwagata version) to be more specific the non-Kilobot seasons are a very loose adaptation of the 2nd game(the biggest thing they removed from the anime was a major subplot of the playable character mentally/spiritually traveling back in time to an ancient civilization on and off over the course of the game). Medabots(which is known as Medarot in Japan) centered all of it's non-Japanese marketing on the anime. Because the various bots get constantly replaced or redesigned from game installment to game installment(Even the most prominent ones on the anime), the only Medarot games to get officially translated are the following:

-The GBA remakes of the 2nd pair Games the anime was loosely based on
-A Game cube game based directly on the Kilobot season of the anime
-A pair of action game spin-offs for the GBA whose plot was completely different and all of robot designs were heavily altered in the west to be bots from the 2nd game/anime instead of the then-current stuff like they were in the original Japanese version.

As a final note, the game series is still around to this day in Japan. With a few exceptions(like a Wonderswan remake of the first pair of games and a standalone PS1 title), the series mostly sticks to whatever the latest Nintendo handheld is
