If anything I'd think of rape as being a psychological torture, there's a chance of getting over it physically, but the psychological trauma will probably never go away. It leaves a permanent mental scare and depending on the severity of the rape it'll leave physical ones too. The people that call for the rape of people they don't like have zero understanding about how bad rape actually is, they are garbage people that are making light of something very serious.
A Cruel God Reigns by Hagio Moto is probably the best example I can think of for the issue, it not only deals with the impact of rape/sexual abuse but the very real issue of it being perpetrated by not only an authority figure but one you've put your trust in. It's a very emotionally draining work, but I think it deals with the subject matter fairly well and I wish more people would take the chance to read it.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, I'll also take this chance to recommend
Pure Love X Insult Complex, don't be thrown off too much by the tags on Novelupdates, it features a very compelling plot. It's one of those works that would be considered instantly triggering (just look at any of the 1 star reviews) and I don't see it ever getting an adaption due to the subject matter, but unlike a lot of the works that people hype up because it makes people mad this one isn't just the author getting off. For most people, the series is a case of "came for the PLOT but stayed for the plot," in that the author built an interesting world with a story to tell. One of those works that's slow to start, but once it gets going it's great, kind of start just skimming the sex bits to get back to the story.
I think that there are many cases where there are fates worse than death, though in most cases it depends based on the person. You see it come up a lot with immortal beings that are unable to die but watch as everyone they care about does and they are unable to make any connections. I can think of multiple story examples where a character being given a swift death would be considered merciful, but it's even the case in real life with things like assisted suicide due to medical conditions.
