I found that both Chainsawman and Jujutsu Kaisen are taking a little too much advantage of being week by week that, when read/watched in one go, it loses some of the impact and forethought that was put into it.
This is super weird for me because more often than not I really hate reading anything serially - Jojolion is the only manga I'm reading as it comes out and the monthly release schedule starts to get real fucking grating when you've spent 3 months fighting a fucking stick bug; the Blue Hawaii arc must have been absolute hell to sit through as it came out.

But yeah, I just hope the anime improves on these aspects a bit. I think there's definitely plenty of good material here to work with here, perhaps a change in medium will really help it shine like it did for Demon Slayer and Mob Psycho.

I doubt they'll have the balls to fuck up Chainsawman too much, as popular as it is right now. I'd be more worried about if it'll be a One Punch Man s2 situation.

Chainsaw Man has one big thing over OPM: It's actually complete*, with the current arc working perfectly fine as a standalone story. This immediately makes it easier to adapt, because they can decide early on how they want to break the story into seasons and set up a plan to commit to in the future. Its structure also lends itself better to adaptation than OPM; as much as I like One Punch Man, it has a massive issue with pacing and scope drift, with Saitama showing up less and less frequently in a story that's ostensibly about his journey to find happiness. Also, at this point I have little faith in the story actually concluding in a reasonable timeframe, with the sporadic webcomic updates and the absolutely glacial pace that Murata is working through the already-existing material. On the other hand, if Fujimoto works at his current pace and Mappa decides to do three cours for Part 1 (maybe 24eps S1 and 12eps S2 across two years) like I hope, the anime will actually keep on-pace with the manga and you won't run into the AOT issue of having 4 years between your seasons and tanking interest in your show.

God, Ichikawa once again had her fun with the Christmas chapter with not only 10,000 years(?) of suffering for Phos but also indefinite hiatus for the readers. It's one of those series I love even if each chapter is just suffering, double fold if you really care about Phos.

I'm just trapped on Ichikawa's wild ride and want to know how it all ends. Don't even really care what happens to the lunarians or the other gems since at this point I just want Phos to be happy, whatever would actually cause that.

The whole thing has just been boring. I stopped watching honesy.
Same, it's been boring to the point where I feel like actually stop watching. Maybe csuse I read the main timeline manga before. But unlike other shows, I don't anticipate it every week. Hell, I've been binging YYH (Just completed Dark Tournament Arc yesterday night, Toguro is the GOAT) since the last 2 days & I forgot that Gou existed until today.

dunno if you guys are interested in gachashit, but F/GO is having an animated special to the theme of Carnival Phantasm, and Tsukihime fans are MATI. here's an illustration

So ladies and gents, I have a question for everyone, a franchise I've been wanting to get into is Berserk, but the trouble is I don't know where to start.

Is it worth it to watch the 1997 TV series first or should I just dive into the manga first?

The 1997 TV series looks cool and I'd like to watch it eventually, but I know it ends on a cliff hanger that was never resolved, so I wonder if I should start with the manga.

I don't care anything about the CG animes btw.

'97 is great in it's own way tbh.

Do both. In my case, I did the '97 anime before, the others later (don't bother with them) & then the manga (best & most definitive version).

Do the manga before, then the '97 anime & then bear the suffering of a Berserk fan till the next chapter releases.

I would honestly say start with the old anime and then start the manga from the beginning once you finish it. There's far less of the anime than there is of the manga and starting with it first might limit the amount of times you go "Wait, why didn't they keep that thing from the manga," or "Man, that was way better done in the manga!" Also, with the manga you're walking into the hell of Hiatus with no series end in sight. Personally, I really enjoyed the first arc and it's what I'll come back to read every so often but I never go much past it knowing about the state of the series. Would do a full read through if it ever finishes up, but until then I'm just trying not to get too invested in the series.

If you do end up reading the manga first I highly recommend listening to the Berserk ost while doing so as it's great. I'm a big promoter of listening to series appropriate music while making my way through a manga or LN, adds so much more to the experience. If you need more than Yoko Kanno stuff might work (stuff like the Escaflowne ost or her stuff from Nobunaga's Ambition, maybe even the Turn A ost) or you can look more into other albums by Susumu Hirasawa since a lot of it has a similar sound to his Berserk ost work. Might even get some fun out of the Conan the Barbarian ost, Gladiator ost, or Kingdom of Heaven ost.

Watch 97 first Preferably subbed though the dub is decent

p2 dub comparison (streamable.com)
Patlabor 2 dub comparison between original japanese, Manga Entertainment and Bandai. I watched the manga one first so i'm biased but all the bandai dubs lose some grit to the characters, all characters sound the same with similar timbres and shit.

someone redid the slice of life from Patlabor 2 with real footage.

If there aren't complete fansubs for Next Generation Patlabor by now, there's probably no chance of anyone finishing it right? there's an officia HKl release but the subtitles are chinglish with some incomprehensible lines. and there's these really nice fansubbed episodes on the net but they're hardcoded and stop after episode 2(3). around the 27 minute mark the HK release subs leave out numbers and are gramatically wrong.

Personally, I tried starting the anime like 4 times when growing up and could never get into it but once I started the manga like a year ago, I was hooked and couldn't stop reading until the end of the Golden Age arc. I'm pretty sure the reason the anime couldn't keep my attention was the pacing but maybe I'm just fucking autistic. I'd consider the manga superior even without watching the entire anime just due to the art though plus I can imagine they cut stuff with how graphic the manga gets.

apparently 4kids did release uncut dubs of both shaman king and yugioh but they were short lived due to contract autism
Sorry to double-post but I can't be the only one who thinks this new art-style looks like shit, right? Like, I'm really glad the entire story is getting adapted this time around because Shaman King is one of my favorite manga but this art-style looks so generic and lacking in any personality, the original anime actually looks better in my opinion. I know Takei's art changed by the end of the series but I don't think it looked this generic even in KZB, it still had a distinctive look reminiscent of his older art and I'd be able to recognize it if he drew another series and I saw it without being told he's the mangaka. I do not see Shaman King when I look at this new anime though, I see the same character designs but they're ironically lacking a soul.
Except for Ryo, he looked fine for the 1 second he was on screen.

With Anine News Network posting the following warning in their forums about Kaifuku Jutsushi no Yarinaoshi / Redo the Healer I figure we should do the exact opposite:
This series is certain to cause a lot of controversy, and Anime News Network welcomes and encouraged discussion of this anime and even the social issues that it touches upon. However rape is never an acceptable punishment and we will not tolerate any posts that even remotely suggest that it is.
Furthermore we will not tolerate posts that take glee in the controversy that this show is likely to cause, nor will we tolerate any posts that appear to be trollish or baiting in nature.
Finally, we ask that all posters be considerate of those who may read these threads and have past traumatic experiences.
Failure to abide by this will result in immediate and permanent removal from our community.
Discussion or criticism of this policy may be made in the feedback forum.

So please take glee in the controversy this anime will bring, and follow up this post with suggestions where rape is an acceptable punishment, tolerate all trollish and baiting responses in the Anime News Network thread and perhaps repost the best ones here in this thread, and make fun of those people who have had traumatic experiences due to animated works they can refuse to watch.

I caught up to the Redo of Healer manga and I genuinely think it's hilarious, it's essentially a giant shitpost, Now I don't know if this is on purpose or unintentionally but I'm having fun at all these over the top situations. The anime is going to be a blast.
