I've been purchasing some Sentai Filmwork-licensed titles as of late, and I'm noticing they really don't do dubs too much except for popular titles/continuations from previous licenses (like Ushio & Tora). Not that I'm complaining, I don't really know if Sentai can actually make a dub out of shows like Love Lab, Non Non Biyori, and Engaged to the Unidentified, but I guess it shows just how far they've parted from their ADV roots where they may be purchasing the "dregs"/"leftovers" FUNimation didn't even want, but they can't guarantee a dub will be profitable. It's why I'll forever be sad they're never going to give Higurashi a redub it desperately needs (but at least they were kind enough to keep the dub just for those who want it).

So with that said, I've psyched myself during their previous sale into purchasing Space Brothers because I figured the only way I'll ever get around to watching that series on a whim is by having physical copies. I'm starting with two volumes and working my way up from there, but I'm holding myself off on any more anime/manga purchases until after I do Christmas shopping sometime next month/month-and-a-half, and I've already told myself Space Brothers is going to be the first anime I watch for 2020. I can see why Sentai has chosen not to dub it, but a part of me still wishes they did. I just envision Brett Weaver being Mutta, and I don't really know why.

what are they up to now? I actually can't think of anything since Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, do they do MHA?)
MHA and Mob Psycho 100.

Anyway, we had a horror-themed anime club meetup on Saturday. We watched the first episodes of Shiki, Paranoia Agent, Dusk Maiden of Amnesia, Another, and Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, as well as the fourth episode of Ghost Stories for laughs.. I think my favorite of the first five was Paranoia Agent.

It's really weird you only watched the first episodes of horror/mystery anime given that it doesn't start to scare you until after a few episodes for all of them (or in the case of Another, you choke on your laughter). But hopefully you continue watching Paranoia Agent, it's so fucking good. Dusk Maiden is more mystery than horror, and it has more feels than scares, but I remember liking it.

Paranoia Agent is one of my favorites of what I saw on Adult Swim, to echo what Kari said, it's so fucking good.

Dusk Maiden of Amnesia is also a lot of fun.

I think there's an outside chance that Sentai might finally get around to dubbing Non Non Biyori to coincide with their presumed eventual release of the Non Non Biyori: Vacation movie, not to mention the third season in 2020.

Speaking of which, I bought volume 12 of the Non Non Biyori manga the other week which answers one of the biggest lingering questions of the series: is there anyone younger than Renge in Asahigaoka village or will the school shut down once Renge is in high school?

can't wait for some 30yo women trying to speak in a japanese highschool girl voice or a cheap child VA giving no fucks about doing it properly.

the bigger mystery is what happens once hotaru graduates and renge is the only one in school? and if her school gets closed, will she start and idol group with candy store?

To be fair, Kana Asumi, the voice of Komari Koshigaya, was already 30 by the time the first episode aired in 2013.

If there was nobody younger than Renge in town, I'd imagine the school would close and Kazuho would just homeschool her sister but I think the implication with the new girl is that there will be more students below Renge.

It occurred to me that the policeman we've now seen in just a few panels is probably the most fleshed-out father character in Non Non Biyori, with the Miyauchi father somehow always in the rice fields (along with his wife), the Ichijou father's job that required him to transfer to Asahigaoka being unknown, and the never-seen Koshigaya father barely even acknowledged (the only time I even remember him ever being mentioned is when they were playing his old Super Famicom).

was meant in regards to dubs. original is fine and almost expected (and they usually put a lot more effort in). I can't even stand "normal" dubs of western stuff, anime is even worse for me, especially when they go with kawaii uguu~ even when the original didn't have it (your name for example).

also gotta admin I never read the mango, gonna wait till it's finished at some point. and I still haven't watched the movie, really need to catch up

By "normal" you mean the original English audio for western stuff, right? Or are you talking about when other places dub western cartoons/shows/movies/whatever?

By the way dig this crazy piece: Gundam creator criticizes Makoto Shinkai for lack of sexual intimacy his works

Mobile Suit Gundam creator Yoshiyuki Tomino has been very outspoken in the lead up to the release of the first Gundam: Reconguista in Gcompilation film on November 29. In an interview with Japan's Weekly Playboymagazine, he spoke about his aspirations for Gundam: Reconguista in G. One particularly standout comment came out regarding Kyoto Animation and Makoto Shinkaiworks.

Tomino said that he created Gundam: Reconguista in G to resemble the anime he used to watch as a child. However, these kinds of works have been superseded by Kyoto Animation and Shinkai works. When asked what he thought of Kyoto Animation and Shinkai anime, he said, "I see them as my rivals. From my generation's perspective, you don't have to go out of your way to make an anime that feels like an introspective novel ('I novel')." He then went on to describe Shinkai's works as "stories about a boy and a girl who are always stretching out their hands towards each other," and said, "And yet the boy's hand never reaches the girl's crotch."

"Why do they never go any further?" Tomino went on. "I want him to make a story where they aren't just satisfied with no physicality. Well, Shinkai is still a young director, so I suppose he can make films like that."

It doesn't seem like the Gundam: Reconguista in Gfilm itself will have any steamy scenes, however. In another interview with the Mainichi Shimbun's online publication Mantan-Web, Tomino said that it was "a film I want kids to see" and that "mothers and fathers will definitely not understand it."

Gundam: Reconguista in Gcelebrated the Gundamfranchise's 35th anniversary, and marked the first return of franchise creator Yoshiyuki Tomino as chief director of an original Gundam series since Turn A Gundam. After a theatrical premiere of the first three episodes in August 2014, the anime premiered on Japanese television in October 2014. Gekijōban Gundam G no Reconguista I: Ike! Core Fighter (Go! Core Fighter), the first of the planned five compilation films for the anime, opened in Japan on November 29.

I wonder if he’ll get flak for this or it will be written as senility

Omg there's still more Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki? Welp, gotta get my friend and I out of cryogenic sleep and keep trucking through our Tenchi journey, then.

:story: Your Name was probably the most sexually-charged Shinkai movie just based off the first third alone, FYI. Guess he's just mad nobody's been liking his work as of late.
