The original NGE dub was not the best but it was a lot livelier and had more spark than this current mess.

ADV for awhile had some dub work that was, at the very least "not bad".

Anyways, some naive fools thought that issues like dubs vs. subs and this version of a dub vs. that version of a dub, etc. would be eliminated by such achievements like DVD tracks - since part of what is supposed to have fueled so many dubs vs. subs wars during the 1990s and so on was that subtitled anime on VHS tended to have retail prices that were higher than those for dub VHS releases and some people who prefered subtitles were miffed at having to pay more. That is supposedly just one reason. Since most DVD releases had tracks for both the sub and dub versions, anyone could pick which one they preferred and that would help cut down on the nonsense, was the thinking. I personally thought that was naive - just like life, dub vs. sub finds a way.

EDIT: looked it up they're taking hormones and of course have whined about "muh Transphobia" in the voice acting scene.

Anyway I'm laughing my ass off that this is turning into another embarrassment for Netflix.

And that they're getting it from both ends: Weebs are pissed cause the new dub sucks ass and Twatter's pissed because they "erased" Kaworu's gayness.

this has always confused me. its very confusing in german because they use german words for their organisations, but than they change the names to acronyms and make them sound like puns at some point. it changes to tone abit, but in a goodway, takes a bit from the overbording symbolism.

Boy howdy am I thankful every day to be no younger than I am, my first viewing of Eva was Adult Swim's airing in 2005.

Nobody can replace Misato's English voice.

My first was via a friend's weeb dad who had the VHS tapes. Yeah, the ones that had only 2-3 episodes apiece and cost $30-40 each. It was worth it just for the art on the slipcases though. He had some massive collection and would only loan out one tape at a time so that was fucking agony. Oh and for months he only had up to the Angel takeover of the Magi (you know, right up to just before things go really off the rails) so reading about the rest of the series online was nuts, too.

Say what you will.about the ADV cast and their personal insanity; for the most part they were some talented folks. Things didn't really start to go bad for them until they put Winn Lee in charge of the movies.

I still can't believe the Netflix dub has a pure novice doing Asuka. "Deuteragonist who gets literally mind raped" is not the role for a debut.
 
Going to be honest I've never watched the original dub, two episodes in and the dub so far sounds fine to me. I don't know why it matters that Kaworu says "like" it's pretty fucking obvious he's gay as fuck without words at all.

For the same reason Those People get upset when anyone interprets a relationship as anything other than "queer": muh rehpruhzentayshun. Because what you want in your gay representation is an entirely one-sided faggot love story between two underage boys, one of whom is self-identified as a global danger to mankind, which ends with one of them popping the other's head off like the tab on a can of. Uh.

1. It's a long running joke in the fandom that Shinji and Kaworu are gay for each other and several video games and manga have paired them up.

2. Hideaki Anno himself described Kaworu and Shinji's journey in Rebuild 3.0 as "romantic".

3. We're mostly making fun of woketards crying over how a slightly changed line is "Gay Erasure".

Watched a chunk of episodes. After awhile, and a few joints later, I kind of forgot its a new dub, especially if its just Shinji and Misato.

New Shinji has some of Spike's mannerism, specifically before Spike started to sound like a parody of himself by End. A pass for me.

New Misato has moments of Allison Keith as well but lacked the punch she had at key moments. Still prefer Keith but whoever does an okay job.

Ritsuko is probably the biggest disappointment, but its been that way since Rebuild. Sue Ulu owned the role before.

I only really get pulled out by new lines that stick out. Not sure whats with Nerf but I'm guessing they're trying to say it in a germanic way?

However, something is up with the audio mixing. Sounds like they're speaking in a tunnel at times, or the actor has the microphone almost in their mouth.

edit: SEELE guy is miscast and I cant stand Boschs acting.

Also, as much as a queef as Winn Lee can be, she did a decent job adding some needed edge to the EoE script (Misato's speech to Shinji was perfect originally).

The Pronoun Brigades and people with twitter bios where they go on about how pansexual they are are or how they are a proud babyfur are now having a "yikes what a horndog, disgusting AF" at the translator for "no-homo'ing" the show.

As somebody who has never watched Evangelion and not really into the whole pirating thing, is the sub at least worth watching? I'm not really a sub guy since I find the Japanese voices annoying, but I've been hearing mixed opinions on the new dub and the old dub's not easy to find for a law-abiding citizen.
