This one is the most painful for me to read, because A: theres a fuckton of legbuttery on Netflix, B: these woketwits are sounding like incels with their "Everyone deserves love" interpretation and C: With how he goes on to treat Asuka, I don't think Shinji understands love all too well.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Kaworu's line in Japanese more ambiguous because in the original language it can mean like or love?

Curious to see know what Asauka's final End line is since that was a translation nightmare.

Kaworu is an Angel, he's showing unconditional love to Shinji whether out of nature or to fuck with him (and in the mindfuck way, not literal fucking). It's honestly always bothered me that fujoshi latched on to those two to claim they're the poster children for twink boys when there's really nothing explicitly proving they're twinks. I did find a comment from a Japanese viewer that stated it could've been read either way and the general consensus over there is that, yes, it's romantic love, but then I take into account skinship between boys being an Asian thing and that, again, Kaworu's an Angel giving Shinji the love he always wanted, and I just can't see it being anything but unconditional.

Honestly prefer Sadamoto's take of Kaworu and Shinji in the comic, at least it's fleshed out more than a 22 minute episode with Kaworu getting character development since he appears earlier.

I sincerely doubt any of these loons watched the actual cartoons. They probably schlicked to the yaoi fanart made of the series and read wikipedia so they could act as experts on the series.

Worse yet, they actually take the manga as canon. The manga that finished 20 years after the show initially aired. They believe that it came before the series, like most anime, not realizing that it was promotional.

God, I hate this trend of reboots that attract fulfillment seeking newfags.
 
'Kay, three episodes under my belt and let me just say NERRF.

Okay, in actuality, I think I'm okay with this new Shinji. Sounds like Kirito from Sword Art Online Abridged at times, but it's probably not the same actor lol. "Don't run away" sounds much more awkward than "Mustn't run away", honestly, but otherwise, Casey's not a bad Shinji. Actually has a good scream going on, and the occasional voice-crack is pretty great.

Misato's new voice actress needs more "oomph" to her as a commander-going-on-major. Ritsuko sounds too much like Misato to the point I need to remind myself they're not the same person, and I think that's lame. Ritsuko also doesn't sound like a chain smoker, so bleh on Netflix's part. Gendo's okay, still not sure about Rei. Johnny Yong Bosch I think was miscast as Toji, what the hell, and I don't know what's with Kensuke's voice actor. Y'know, I know ADV has its haters, but one thing I always liked about ADV was its voice pool had some really interesting voices, they all just sound unique from one-another, and I like that about voice-acting. That's why I have a problem with Misato and Ritsuko's voices here because they sound too alike.

But seriously, can't believe they couldn't use "Fly Me to the Moon" for the end credits, that's bullshit.

Anyone who's watched further ahead, do they use the director's cut episodes or no?
 
Oh yeah, Amanda Winn Lee and Spike Spencer were apparently live-reacting to the new dub on Twitter or something a bit ago. Anyone see if they were super butthurt by it?

He congratulated them. But you just know hes pissed lbr. I would be.

We can shit on Amanda all day but for quite a time in the 90s she was working on so many dubs and without her we wouldn't have gotten the dub we got. The new dub is just lazy.
