Had a little break, but continuing Legend of the Galactic Heroes. I'm really thankful to my friend for reccomending the show, it's probably my fave "adult" animation right now.
You can make a mature show without crude humor, fanservice and sex scenes. And even violent moments are not often and not unnecesarry gore.
There is some heavy political stuff, but they are well balanced by other character interactions, action and intrigues. I don't get why this series have such "elite" reputation.
I really like most of the characters (and character I don't like are still fun to watch), especially Iserlohn team. Yang is my favourite. I like he is not "outcast nerd", but friendly drunktard. :P My boyfriend likes Shoenkopf.
And I'm the only person who find Reinhard interesting character, but not very likeable person?

I suppose because the show doesn't fall into those trappings you mentioned earlier, fans simply didn't give it a fair chance given it's premise and approach.

I've recently begun rewatching the dub of Gundam Wing again for old time's sake.

I know that Gundam Wing has gotten some backlash from the fandom in recent times, but I still like it and it was my first exposure to the Gundam franchise and the mecha genre in general. I'm not a hardcore mecha fan or Gundam fan, but I still like Gundam Wing.

Duo Maxwell was one of my favorite characters when I was a kid.

Has anyone watched the "Junji Ito Collection"? Didn't even know that it was a thing, stumbled upon it on a streaming site. It's actually doing Ito's work justice, though the animation is wonky at times. The japanese dub is absolutely stellar.

When it was airing, yeah. The animation is pretty shit but it's faithful enough. Also the opening song is lit.

The Junji Ito anime was honestly a disappointment. I looked forward to it every week and watched it with my brother so it wasn't like I was bored, but it felt off at times, and most of it had to do with the animation being your typical Studio Deen animation. The voice-acting and music's pretty good, but on an outward appearance, it wasn't unnerving enough. Think it also doesn't help that the director was the same guy behind Diabolik Lovers. Just... why?

I don't know what's been going on with Deen, but they're never going to have another horror hit like Higurashi. Why do they even bother?

I've been really digging Holmes of Kyoto.

I've always been a bit of a sucker for the idea of "twisting" classical-ish detectives a little bit. Taking that idea and shifting it to something slightly newer. I enjoyed most of Bungo Stray Dogs I've seen so far and it's been the same with this one. It's a rather enjoyable, relaxing watch.

I'm still on the topic of Junji Ito, and I just have to express my absolute frustration with the Tomie special and give further proof that Studio Deen no longer cares:

Why the fuck was the first episode censored??? It's a direct-to-Blu-Ray special, and yet it looks like shit. Why? Why did they put so little effort into these ten-minute shorts? It's so fucking ridiculous. If more Junji Ito stories get adapted, I hope that they get a different studio and director to do them that'll show proper respect to his art. Everyone got on ufotable with Gyo for changing things up, but you know what, at least that OVA was fucking watchable and had consistent animation.

Is there any decent animation studio even left at this point?
Production IG used to be swell.

Bones and David Production, I guess. MAPPA's got a lot of promise, too, but I don't watch everything of theirs. I'm even still a sucker for KyoAni shit simply because they have a lot of beautiful animation, but they haven't made anything worthwhile since CLANNAD and maybe Kyoukai no Kanata, if you ask me.

I've noticed upon starting El Hazard that AIC has quite the résumé that goes up to even today, but I guess they've fallen on hard times too or something. But they at least transitioned to digital better than Pierrot.

I don't think Junji Ito will ever get a good adaption of his work. He made all of them with the comic medium in mind and that's why alot of them work so well. It also dosen't help that a lot of them are really out their in concept and aren't easily summarized. only one man could really pull half his stuff without misunderstanding it

as for the topic of anime Studio. honestly the horrible work practices of the industry is why things are so crap. It's a nightmare that somehow works. Its not something that can be easily fix unfortunately.

Yeah, it seems Junji Ito's work doesn't translate that well into other media, at least not without changing a few things but that easily leads to the problem of the adaptation not being faithful.

On another note: I am hype as fuck for the Vinland Saga Anime. Can't wait for a trailer to see how it'll look in motion.
If Yukimura Makoto's earlier work and it's adaptation, Planetes, is any indication, this is going to be fucking fantastic.

Oh Shit I forgot the FLCL sequels were still airing. I thought that shit was over. and Cowboy Bebop is till airing in the year 2018. Rock on Space star

Finally got around reading some Promised Neverland, and damn, it's really good! Really scratches that "children-in-surreal-and-horrifying-settings" itch of mine, and I especially like the little mind games of the first arc. Here's me hoping the upcoming Anime adaptation won't accelerate the series' fandom turning into shit.

Part of me really wants to see a Rockstar\Bully style freeroam\mission-based game adaptation too, though I don't know how well they could translate all the tactics and shadow play.

Finished Onii-sama e yesterday and it's definitely going into my top 10. It's been a while since an anime got me this hooked, especially considering that I'm not into anime as much as I was when I was younger... actually, now that I think about it, I don't think any shoujo that has come out in the past ten years except for Natsume Yuujinchou has ever engaged me very much. It is beyond me how pure shite like Ao Haru Ride and Orange became so popular.

I mean the fist mistake was trying to produce an anime of drawings that really can't be animated properly, the other was giving it to Studio DEEN.

And speaking of animation studios, one of Japan's many subcontracting houses, drop, went bankrupt a few weeks back. Sign of things to come?
