To be fair I try to ignore the parts of FranXX that aren't the setting or the robots, too.
I'm sure that's all shows like that are about. It's not about who you want to see fucking who.

I really like Made in Abyss a lot. I was hooked around the time Ozen appeared in the anime but when I ran out of episodes I went straight to the manga.. It has a really amazing world that lends itself well to a number of potential video games.

Oh and Bondrewd for #1 dad of all time.

I resisted getting into the show because it looked like cute kid adventures with feels but I could not have been more wrong. I think this manga tops Berserk with how dark it is. I stopped reading around the time Guts and crew go on the boat but lost children arc and Mozgus were my favorite arcs.

Bondrewd, in my opinion, is one of the greatest villains of all time.

This fucking guy beats the shit out of Reg only to finally get blown by his arm canon but then manages to survive. As the kids are leaving to take the final plunge Bondrewd and his praying hands appear in the distance, Bon daddy clapping. "May you have many blessings and curses".
In my head this music is playing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rroTJTnUwmI

This motherfucking guy mutilates children, removes everything but their vital organs and bones, stuffing them into a cartridge that allows him to delve deeper into the abyss with none of the fatal side effects. Inside the cartridge the kids are drugged so are in a constant state of fear and agony.

If they stick to the source material for season 2 its going to destroy people. Remember Mitty? 100X times that because of what a chipper girl Prushka is. people are going to like her a lot and all the pedophiles are going to make her their waifu. Oh boy.

Speaking of that, I really hope they don't censor the scene where Bondrewd is taking Reg's urine using the pump device. Reg's expression is so horrifying, I'm so desynthesized but just looking at that made me feel sick. The whole scene makes me think of the movie Fire in the Sky when the aliens are doing shit to Travis.

But yea, go rate this Islamic content.

I love how MiA triggers people so badly on reddit. And tumblr.

Ozen is one BA too.

Maybe you guys could recommend me more manga thats horrific and cruel. I only read Akira, Battle Angel Alita, Devilman,MiA and Blade of the Immortal. I'd love to get back into Berserk but I have tons of catching up to do. I want to read Hellsing but never get around to it.

I read Gundam Origin too.

I've watched 4 episodes of Franxx and its okay. Not something I'm going to marathon episodes of, but I do plan on finishing it.

Space Battleship Tiramisu is far better. It's the most I've laughed at an anime in a long time.

Right now I'm reading Cannon God Exaxxion. Herd about it way back and finally decided to check if it was fully online. It's nostalgia trip seeing it's 90's character designs.

Korean and Chinese animation has been getting more traction (so it probably won't be long now before this thread gets revamped to be "Eastern Animation"), and Crunchyroll's been hosting more of them lately. I didn't recall seeing any Japanese names attached to the project in the credits, but the movie felt like it was created by a lovechild between Shinichi Watanabe and Hiroyuki Imaishi. So eh.

Only things they got going for them are the manhwas and manhuas:

Chinese animation still looks really stilted like they've yet to get themselves out of the late-90s/early-2000s stage while borrowing 2010 character designs, but Korean animation has been looking good as of late, probably thanks to all the outsourcing flexing some young animators' muscles. If any of the two has a chance in the field and playing with the big boys, it's definitely Korea.

(I need get into reading manhwas and manhuas, honestly. Kinda started with Faeries' Landing, but far as I know no one's finished the series--fuck you, Tokyopop.)

Oh yeah aren't they animating that bee armor thing?

Kainar's out of China. It's sort of a bootleg Chinese mid00s Gundam. It's kind of not awful.

Six 15-minute-episodes were released in 2015. Without knowing anything about the source material, I thought it was forgettable and the animation was pretty "meh". Thinking back on it, I was probably just more-or-less disappointed that despite it being labeled under "mecha", it didn't have much mecha going for it. (I guess the armor is the mecha.)

Hellsing and Drifters fit the bill, but are more of the edgelord variety, especially the 1st (2nd is still ongoing, so verdict is still out).

Black Butler can also be quite difficult to read at times (current arc in particular is very intense and hard to watch, but very well-crafted, just don't let anyone spoil it for you).

Attack on Titan is probably the most well-known item on the cruel and gut-wrenching spectrum. It's also the one with the biggest fan base out there, and a faithful, well-crafted adaptation (Black Butler's anime is very filler-heavy in the beginning).

Hunter x Hunter is quite violent and grown-up for a shonen, but you will have to deal with constant hiatuses, which is a major bummer imo.

I actually enjoy a good degree of edge.

Surprised to see you mention Attack on Titan. I read a bit of the first chapter before it got picked and thought the idea was pretty cool.

Try Tokyo Ghoul, Elfen Lied and Angel Santuary. Especially the latter, which is severely underrated and my favorite manga of all time. Most manga by Kaori Yuki is pretty dark and gothic, so I recommend looking her up.

Read Shigurui.
It's one of the most absurdly weird manga's I've ever read and it never shies away from gore. Quite to the contrary, when someone's cut, it shows every layer of bodily tissue in excrutiating detail.

It's also one of the most :deviant: Manga that I ever read.

Also, at one pont, there's an offhand remark to comment on how haggard a certain female character has become which boils down to "When she bends over, you could see her anus without spreading her buttcheeks" ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That being said, the plot is really interesting and the action is amazing. There's just a fair share of "What the fuck am I reading?" moments.

The dub.

I may have to look up the difference

Im probably wrong though.
I think I got confused because the dub considers stardust crusaders like a different series, meanwhile in japan it is considered like a season 2 of the same show.

So you've started from the fist epised of the first series( phantom blood) and not from the first episode of stardust crusaders, right?

I started with Phantom Blood and have reached Stardust Crusaders.

The reviews couldn’t even touch the tip of the iceberg in regards to how eccentric this series is.
