By the end of Battle Tendency Araki had exhausted nearly everything that could be done with hamon without resorting to asspulls, so he went ahead and made asspulls an actual power system in the form of stands.
I was basing the FotNS/schoolyard battle thing on something I read in an interview, I'm pretty sure. So he definitely just did it for marketability. Unless I dreamed it.
You don't even need magic to be infinitely retarded for infinite chapters, look at shit like Baki.

But there's nothing wrong with a series changing things up, even if it wasn't an anthology where the stories have practically no connection besides the title.
Though it is kinda lame when a guy with the strongest rippling power which is based on how water ripples and trained using water by the ancient order of water ripplers who he studied under in their secret purpose-built water rippling temple by overcoming deadly water-based rippling challenges where he shortly afterward saved the world by making stuff ripple real good before he married one of them loses a high-stakes game of water surface tension jenga to a bad guy who technically wasn't even cheating.

I always forget that speed racer was an anime/manga. Unlike with series like pokemon or yugiohit took me years to realize that it wasn't some old Hannah Barbara cartoon, it didn't help the old VHS I had was edited/dubbed like one, it had old reruns on boomerang at one point, and I vaguely recall 2 or 3 sequels/reboots that I'm pretty sure where completely american made cartoons

Well, that's what Baki is for, isn't it? And it's not the only one. There were more manga about crazy martial arts, like Otokojuku, which had been serialized for three years before Stardust Crusaders' first chapter. In the context at the time, Jojo did something original that other battle shounen series weren't doing.

Kill aliens. Behead aliens. Roundhouse kick an alien into the concrete. Slam dunk an alien baby into the trashcan. Crucify filthy xenos. Defecate in an aliens food. Launch aliens into the sun. Stir fry aliens in a wok. Toss aliens into active volcanoes. Urinate into an aliens gas tank. Judo throw aliens into a wood chipper. Twist aliens heads off. Report aliens to the IRS. Karate chop aliens in half. Curb stomp pregnant black aliens. Trap aliens in quicksand. Crush aliens in the trash compactor. Liquefy aliens in a vat of acid. Eat aliens. Dissect aliens. Exterminate aliens in the gas chamber. Stomp alien skulls with steel toed boots. Cremate aliens in the oven. Lobotomize aliens. Mandatory abortions for aliens. Grind alien fetuses in the garbage disposal. Drown aliens in fried chicken grease. Vaporize aliens with a ray gun. Kick old aliens down the stairs. Feed aliens to alligators. Slice aliens with a katana.

As I was reminded recently, 28 years ago this commercial for Murphy's Irish Stout aired, a cyberpunk-ish short produced by a team of animation professionals hired from Production I.G., assembled by the ad agency Nexus Productions - directed by Hiroyuki Kitakubo (Roujin Z, Blood: The Last Vampire), character designs by Kazuchika Kise (character designer on shows like xxxHOLIC and Blue Seed, working on key animation or animation director on, well it's a long list ) and backgrounds by Hiromasa Ogura, who has been background artist or art director on too many projects to count (the first GitS film, the first Patlabor film, Jin-Roh, Dead Leaves, on and on and on). This didn't just happen out of nowhere, when Ghost in the Shell came to the UK and Ireland it became a cult sensation, and Guinness' would-be competitor wanted to capitalize on that.

For an advert it's certainly dense with details.

This is the American remake I remember, because it sucked.

He is the same guy who directed some of the best moments in Season 2, like Garou vs Tank Top Master
Is Season 3 saved?

I feel like that look helped anime cross the language barrier back in the '60s, so it really was just a matter of time before the anime boon began kicking off in the States in the '90s.

It's surprisingly kinda good so far but (well, because) it doesn't feel like Jojo apart from everybody being drag queens, it's more of a chaotic magic gangster crime story thing. If nothing else I'd like to see it animated because I can't tell what the fuck is going on half the time in the action scenes.

Jojolion could be really good if they got a script doctor in to fix all the dementia in the latter half but that'll never happen.
Remember how Araki set up an interesting dilemma with Josuke having to choose between saving his mother with the fruit (clinging to his old self) or saving the kid (accepting his new identity as a Higashikata) ? AND HOW HE THEN PROCEEDED TO DO NONE OF THAT ?!

Ironic given how much he butchers Kenshiro.

Fuckin hell can we talk about how much Araki's art degraded in recent years ?
I like his highly detailed and unique style but the more things go on the more it starts looking absurd and the more characters start having the exact same face with weirdly exaggerated lips and stuff. Compared to the earlier arcs, he did use to make his characters excessively muscle-bound but at least you had some fun variations with the designs. Now you can barely tell anyone apart, maybe that's why they all dress like BDSM teletubbies ?

One trend I've been noticing in anime is the plot of someone trying to find that one-of-a-kind or Ultra Rare (?) version of a collectable item like a figurine, where it is in a different color. It would be similar to some people being really obsessed with finding Shiny Pokémon in the games. Also, the way to obtain one of those would be through a loot box-like purchase. i.e. Gachapon machines or blind boxes.

I do have a few questions about this plot though. Is this actually a thing IRL in Japan for someone to be obsessed with finding one of those Ultra Rare figurines because it is of a slightly different color? And were Shiny Pokémon added to the games because of this trend, or were Shiny Pokémon Ground Zero for the trend?

Yes. Asians are gamble freaks and even without a scalping market they will burn their cash on a literal color change of a figurine. It's always been a meme that even if they get what they searched for, they'll aim for 3 copies for: use, backup and display.
