Currently watching "Ali-Baba and the Forty Thieves" (yup, through KissAnime), and I think this is the most unique art-style I've seen from an anime. I swear it looks like it was inspired by Dr. Seuss (maybe it's more Jay Ward), it almost threw me off.

'Course the dub's also reaaaally terrible (as was to be expected), but bad dubs make me giggle anyway, so I'm just rolling with it. One of the creatures is telling the story of Ali-Baba and the style changed. I'm trying to figure out exactly what this style is, it's almost like shadow puppets, but not really. I honestly miss styles like this, you rarely see it anymore.

It's also fascinating when you find out Hayao Miyazaki was behind key animating/organizing this film, he'd never looked back!

I think it was farmed off to somewhere in Montreal. They always pick Cinelume for these things (or Cinar).

I would be watching more vintage anime if I had the gumption to just torrent the damn things and not look for them on VHS.

I always felt the Montreal voice pool were rather underrated in regards to animation (I mostly know them for Samurai Pizza Cats and Arthur).

Started reading Future Diary.

Before I started reading it, I thought it was simply about a yandere chick stalking her love interest. Turned out it's even more ridiculous than that.

I also like how the big bad(?) is literally called Deus Ex Machina.

I also finished Another.

Pretty decent show overall, it started out REALLY slow, but the latter half definitely made up for it. Misaki, unsurprisingly was the most interesting character in the show, everyone else was kinda meh by comparison. Ending was a bit confusing.

Why didn't the MC remember who the red haired girl was? I thought you had to be dead to now have those memories? I don't know, things got a little muddled for me when it came to that.

Also this scene is both ridiculously endearing and ridiculously out of place.

You should see the ridiculous collection I got!

I'm sure it is (what with competition from Toronto and Vancouver).

I best remember those guys for doing an anime take on The Jungle Book.

I love the Jungle Book anime.
One of the few cartoons to be tolerated on Christian TV channels like TBN!

And because I'm in a good mood right now (and DST is kicking in), here's a collection of cels from this fine series in my stash, all in mattes that have Nippon Animation's copyright on the back!

been watching Grimgar lately.

Pretty laidback show. I like it.
One of the better entries in that whole "stuck in a fantasy world" genre, I liked it a lot. I hope they do an s2, after I watched it I read the light novels and shit gets pretty real later on.

Finished up Grimgar last night. Comfy show. Hope they do a second season.

I honestly forgot they were from another world. Seems like it was just there because isekai is what's popular right now and the author needed to sell the LNs to publishers- otherwise it was just a show about a low-level adventuring party.

See they don't have any recollection of a past life. They remember a few things here and there but as far as they know they started existing the day they were introduced to the world.

I remember those guys also did an anime about Christopher Columbus. I remember watching it in Third Grade and being the proto-weeb I was, immediately recognized it as anime.

I had no idea a Christopher Columbus anime even existed. So I just looked it up, saw someone mentioned an English dub is available, and found the playlist. Looks like I have a new show to watch, sweet.

So I watched I wanna bang the wolf Spice & Wolf, both series and really enjoyed it. Currently reading the novels now. It's a unique perspective on a fantasy world and I really enjoy the setting. Twists and turns that require coin, guile and negotiation skills instead of the usual nonsense of swords, magic and more magic swords.

I've also tripped over the Valkryie Chronicles anime which has enough changed in it that I can enjoy it separately from the game, which is also really nice, but reading Spice & Wolf is slowing that down for now.

It's a pretty decent adaptation that expands on several scenes present in the game and I love how much of the original soundtrack they used. That said, I haven't finished it. Something about it just makes me want to play the game instead.

Kobun Shizuno (Detective Conan: The Darkest Nightmare and other Detective Conan movies, Fist of the North Star: The Legend of Kenshirô, Fist of the North Star: The Legend of Toki) and Hiroyuki Seshita (Ajin, Knights of Sidonia) are directing the film at Polygon Pictures. Gen Urobuchi (Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Fate/Zero, Psycho-Pass) of Nitroplus is credited with the story concept and screenplay.

The film is the first anime film in the Godzilla franchise.

TOHO's newest Godzilla film, Shin Godzilla (known as Godzilla: Resurgence in Southeast Asia and other distribution territories), opened in Japan on July 29. Funimation screened the film in North America in October. The film has earned 8.11 billion yen (about US$69.30 million), and was the second highest-grossing domestic film in Japan in 2016.
