I had no idea a Christopher Columbus anime even existed. So I just looked it up, saw someone mentioned an English dub is available, and found the playlist. Looks like I have a new show to watch, sweet.
Yep, this is the same Italian group also responsible for that ugly Titanic movie with the octopus! They actually played this Christopher Columbus series on The History Channel, way, way back in during the channel's infancy in the late 90's when they once had a "History for Kids" block, aired Saturday mornings alongside "Inspector Gadget's Field Trip" and this French production...

Started watching Now and Then, Here and There.

Four episodes in and holy shit it's even darker than I heard it was. (:_( Good shit though. Legit 10/10 so far.

Been working through my backlog of mostly movies and OVAs, and it's been great. I think I found some new favorites after watching Perfect Blue, and Neo Tokyo both fantastic films whether or not you're even a fan of anime. At the very least the third segment in Neo Tokyo; The Order to Stop Construction is an absolute must watch.

and between the good stuff I watched some shlocky OVAs that I have a fondness for. Ushio and Tora, The Humanoid, and Raven Tengu Kabuto. All pretty bad and really didn't bring anything unique or particularly interesting to the table, but enjoyable nonetheless

One of my little bros and I started watching the TV series of Mobile Police Patlabor yesterday. Only two episodes in, but even though the dub's a hard sit because some of the voice actors just suck, I had a good giggle. I've seen the seven-episode OVA and two of the movies, so I think I know what to expect going into the next 45 episodes, but someone on MAL had described it as a lighthearted Ghost in the Shell with giant robots. So is that true?

A Godzilla anime film will stream globally soon:

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/new...-stream-on-netflix-globally-this-year/.113347

Polygon Pictures' Godzillaanime film will stream globally on the Netflix service this year. The Japanese arm of the world's largest online streaming service will collaborating with TOHO, Japan's largest film distributor, on the coordinated theatrical and global streaming release.

Fuck yeah, can't wait. I'd like to watch this with my baby brother if a dub's going to be made available, he loves Godzilla.

I've been feeling like I should rewatch this since it's been a few years, but I'm not sure if I'm ready yet. :c You're in for a rough ride.

I think Ushio and Tora's fantastic despite its flaws. The manga was a whole lot of fun and surprisingly heartfelt, something the 2015 anime kinda missed out on because they skipped a lot of good stories (they had a reason for it, though). Still is a shame that it's gone under people's radars. Been looking for more 80s and 90s OVAs, so I think I'll check out Kabuto here. I got a Bastard!! vibe from it for some reason when I looked it up.

Neo Tokyo was beautiful. Otomo never fails.

Hearthfelt is definitely good word to describe Ushio and Tora. Has all the raw pathos that I love from 90s shounen. Like I said before it's the not the most unique story ever but I can definitely see myself rewatching it someday unlike a lot of crap OVAs I've gonna through.
Kabuto was alright definitely just felt like an advertisement for the manga. It needed a bit of that self awareness Bastard!!! had

So yeah.. moved on to some more movies in my backlog. Decided to finish up watching all the old Sanrio movies with the 2 Unico films, and Fairy Florence. They were all very Disneyesque and geared towards children, but were all well-made and incredibly comfy. I would love to see a Unico Reboot one day.

The English title of Fairy Florence is A Journey Through Fairyland - perhaps one of the few successful attempts at creating another Fantasia, even if there's a plot (which kind of drags the film down, but you don't need to pay attention to it; it's all about the visuals), and even if there's a scene where Hello Kitty and all her Sanrio buddies come in for product placement.

It was a big flop when it was released; it was in production for four years, and I think by this time Sanrio's film division was turning out to be a failure, so they just decided to go out with a bang. Any animation Sanrio has produced since then focuses on their characters exclusively.

They put out the Unico manga in English - I think you can buy that now, though I've never seen it anywhere.

Weren't every single non-original OVA in the 80s and 90s just advertisements for the manga anyway? It practically explains why they all have that "read the manga, asshole" ending. Though Bubblegum Crisis was the same way despite being original because they couldn't get the funding to complete the rest of it. Really was a damn shame.

So I sometimes like to think about directors, and the Ushio and Tora OVA talk made me think of the director, Kunihiko Yuyama, and how I found his older works prior to Pokémon to be actually not that bad. Windaria and possibly Weather Report Girl I think were the best examples of what kind of director he could've been had he not been stuck with Pokémon (he worked on Wedding Peach, don't know why MAL removed him from it when ANN still has him listed). One of his newest directed anime is this movie called "Rudolf the Black Cat", so I guess he may still have a career past Pokémon at this point, but I honestly don't have respect for him anymore after what he did with the Genesect movie. I always felt he was already losing it prior to that movie, but that was pretty shitty of him.

What happened with the Genesect movie? I'm not familiar with that.

I've sperged about it elsewhere so I'll try to keep it short, but Kunihiko basically pissed on the legacy of the late Takeshi Shudo and the fans by bringing in a second Mewtwo that's practically a cardboard cutout of the original (but female)--just because he felt like there needed to be one. The second Mewtwo is literally a walking plothole that it's fucking embarrassing (and it's Pokémon, writing isn't its strongest point anyway, but the wasted and missed opportunity here is really cringeworthy). But it doesn't end there, they went out of their way to re-air the first Pokémon movie and its sequel onto Japanese television so children would know who Mewtwo was prior to the Genesect movie's release. Even though it's not the same Mewtwo at all.

New Jack is good. Surprised honestly. I'm thinking one of those 7 girls will join up with Jack eventually.

I just finished it. What a beautiful masterpiece of a series. Legitimately a 10/10.

I don't think I'll ever be able to rewatch it. Especially that fucking ending, holy shit. Made me bawl my fuckin' eyes out.

Not sure what I'm gonna watch next. Maybe Spice and Wolf, or some corny, lighthearted schlock like Valkyrie Drive or Lord Marksman and Vanadis.

That was an abomination. I died a little inside after watching it.

I agree.

While there were a few scenes that expanded upon certain scenes, a lot of what I loved about the game in the first place kinda got thrown to the wayside. The action was significantly toned down, and the actual war that was going on was kinda made secondary to all these unnecessary scenes of Alicia acting tsundere (to this day, I still have no idea why they made her that way, she was fine originally) towards Welkin and a shoehorned love triangle between the two and Faldio. The art style I also didn't really care for. Compared to the actual game, it looked painfully generic.

I do kinda like how they tried to expand on the secondary characters you use alongside the main cast, but it doesn't make up for most everything else.

Can't forget product placement here! The movie barely made its way over here on VHS under a label often associated with a lot of bottom-of-the-bin cartoons.

It sad to see it go, but I suppose they had it coming to them in the end.

The Unico manga was released a few years ago by DMP, in a 400 page book that retailed for over $30. I suppose it should be worth it if they print the color pages in color, at least they did with a Japanese book I bought off eBay years back. Sanrio used to have a thing for printing their magazines in full color back in the 70's.

Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko is yet another anime that could have benefited from a S2 or was made to push the cancelled LN it tried to sell. I enjoyed it more than I should and I'm kinda kicking myself for having it on my HDD for years lol. Slice of Life goodness.

I just read My Girlfriend is a T-Rex since my brother has it and I was bored.

It exists. It might look better animated, honestly, if it ever happens, but it was just... "It exists". I also don't know how it is Seven Seas gave it an "All Ages" rating, but whatever.
