You need to be especially brain dead to find the two deep and artistic. Eva has more fan service than most shows, the whole religious reference are just thrown together and it never really goes beyond "muh depression" in characterization.t Uena is just coom brain "hey we took story roles and switched it around" as well as ton of soap opera bullshit.

Fucking Made in Abyss and Dungeon Meshi are deeper than those two. Probably the smartest show I can think about on the moment (besides LoGH, which of course never talked about by those faggots) is C: The Money of Soul.

Edit: Just to summarize the two anime in a sentence:
Eva: "Porcupine principal".
Utena: "What if the princess saved the witch from the prince?"
I always thought the biggest thing that hurts Eva (in terms of people's reactions) is that it got built up as this intellectual artpiece, when really its sort of just the ramblings of a guy off his meds via the medium of animation. You shouldn't think or look too deeply into it, just enjoy the emotional rollercoaster.

This is speaking as a huge Eva fan, by the way. Like when you look too deeply or try to overthink it, it really does fall apart.

I could say the same for a lot of the best anime though. The appeal is the feels, not the thoughts. That's how I can glady go from something like Eva to something like Lucky Star.

(This reminds me, one of these days I need to get around to watching the Rebuild movies, though what keeps me off is I recall them having confusing numbering where I'm not sure which one is the last one... I believe I asked about it on this forum before tho)

He sends off the series with the most insulting version of "Thanks for the fish, now go touch grass losers!" I have ever seen in a medium. Especially after he milked the franchise over the last several decades doing fuck all with it featuring merch with things that didnt even happen in the series or its expanded universe. Dont even bother watching the rebuilds.

You're totally right about Eva and these people having terrible taste, but it isn't like C is any different since it's just a generic battle shounen where they named the attacks from an economics 101 textbook and there's some half-baked plot that amounts to "hey turning on the money printer over and over again is bad." At least it tried though, so much wasted potential.
Money printer bad is at least a worthwhile conversation since the topic of decreasing quality of life in short term but possible growth vs. stability with inevitable collapse in long term is at least a worthwhile conversation is something that every country faces today like a decade after the original run.
Plus I liked the idea of people staking their literal future in getting rich as far as battle system go, and being a neat allegory to engaging in the stock market.

I think it even had the American feds fucking around with other country's economy.

I've only seen the first few episodes of Log Horizon and I really like the premise of those where they're trying to get from one city to another without fast travel. How long does that aspect hold out? I got annoyed with the show pausing to explain the basics of how MMOs work every couple of minutes so I didn't get too far before I got distracted by less annoying shows

I can't possibly imagine it doing well but I've always wanted a travel focused mmo where you basically had to move in real time, with the caveat that your character could travel on their own even without your input, maybe have trains, ships, airships, etc that you could ride that only departed a few times a day. Basically making your decisions of where you want to quest/dungeon impactful. That was probably my favorite part of WoW classic when it rereleased, getting places was an investment, no dungeon teleport, no summoning stones, no five hearthstones with 15-30 minute cooldowns, no book to teach you every flight path. Just getting a mount felt like a massive character milestone
Well, their cheat item griffons already make the idea lose a lot of interest, but I didn't make it to them visiting any other faraway player cities. Most they do is have a short, easy trip to the nearby capital before I stopped watching.

Eve Online is a lot like that, complete with real time travel times of hours between systems, and honestly it sucked as a player. I rapidly lost interest. Maybe it's a matter of implementation; I've always thought a more role playing focused game would work far better in a convincing VR set up than a traditional game, but even then I always veer towards sci fi "full dive" ideas to make it feasible. I like being outside and walking IRL, but in game, well, why not just go outside instead lol.

Evangelion 2.0 is my favourite piece of Evangelion media that isn't a book (the Sadamoto manga and the Anima novels are my favourite versions of Evangelion), but 3.0+1.0 is such a pretentious and self-indulgent ending that is really no deeper in terms of worldbuilding than Marvel goyslop. Instead of taking the time to deepen and explain the worldbuilding in the Rebuilds, it devolves into meaningless personal nonsense with the worldbuilding barely held together.

Anno became so full of himself when he got famous from Eva -- I don't get the same humble vibe from him that I get from Miyazaki. I like his work (Gunbuster is one of my top 10 animes), but he definitely could be less self-indulgent. This isn't to mention that he's probably a pedo; he allegedly owns several loli magazines, plus all the fanservice in Eva wouldn't be included by someone who isn't a nonce.

Utena is just a twisted fairy tale allegory about female adolescence that has tone all over the place. It wants to be satirical and goofy, but it also wants to be taken serious with dark themes. Just like real women.

But unlike real women, it feels more intentional, and it also has an ending.

The problem with the ANN types is they only ever talk about the movie, never the TV series, because the movie's more open about sexuality (although it's funny the TV show's has more yaoi fanservice, so you'd think the women there would be more into that) and it has more wacky symbolism than the show. So therefore, they can pretend to be smarter than everyone else as they jill to it.

The show also shows female friendships front and center, and they can't comprehend that at all. It's left open at the end if Utena and Anthy may end up as lovers, but if you have to interpret it that way, it's more implied to be more romantic than sexual, which is the same in the movie but with more sexuality since the two of them are nude together at the end. They prefer that level of in-your-face instead of nuance.

Mind you, this is what I ended up drawing conclusions of after watching it the first time as an adult. It's a show for teenage girls, so I don't know what I would've taken away from it then, but I believe I would've benefited a bit more from it compared to now. Teenage me would've definitely enjoyed it without turning gay. I don't know if the ANN women saw it as teenagers or as adults, but they warped it into something it's not because they clearly hung out with the fandom on Tumblr, and that's the real big issue here.

2.0 was definitely a better starting off point to the series than the tv show imo since that is what I watched first as my intro to the series. Its visuals were up to date and hit most of the same beats as the much longer tv show. Though most of it was fluff dialog and Shinji being a little bitch. He doesn't even grow as a character through any of that personal nonsense or angel battles and just becomes more withdrawn.

Its never really explained how humanity is still around after the extinction level event impacts keep happening and everyone is just... okay afterwards? Every time. The red oceanwater isn't explained either. Yeah its anime and its full of that kind of BS, but anno took it to Destiny levels of poorly written and vague storytelling. Hyped up by redditors to be the second coming of moses with the anime commandments.

The environment doesn't tell the same story that's happening on screen either. Since he does a ton of shots trying to do Environmental storytelling that means fuck all in the rebuilds because "shinji we have to go to japanese high school in the middle of armageddon. Don't be late for lunch. Also don't forget to get in the damn robot when you get home. -misato"

Yeah, I got as far as the griffons. I was willing to sit through the explanations in favor of the premise of traveling but that might have been the final straw that made me lose interest in favor of other things. It's been a few years so I don't remember exactly why I quit watching

I was hooked on it for a few years, it's definitely the closest game that exists to what I want that I've found but the last few years of updates have really put me off of it. I love the sovereignty system where a corporation/alliance can lay claim to a system or even region if they have the manpower, and different regions of space have different resources that are all needed to build the different ships and modules and weapons that are all player made from player gathered resources, with the truly blingy items still being tradable and earned by completing extremely difficult combat sites. You can make a living doing whatever you want, mining, ratting, ganking, running deliveries, or just playing the market

I'd definitely prefer a fantasy option though, or maybe a post-apocalyptic sci-fi setting ala Horizon Zero Dawn. EvE just doesn't have the variety of environments I'd like to experience while traveling. There's different backgrounds but ultimately it's all just black, no fun landscapes or ruins or anything to explore

Time to test your math, anime-based Kiwis.

Christina is waiting.

If he has access to the time leap machine and the actual production of cookies doesn't matter, only the act/experience, he could have it done as of three days prior to the creation of the time leap machine.

If he has to actually make them all sequentially 4.566 decades, assuming no downtime whatsoever from managing the ovens

With access to d-mail I think that would allow him to finish at some point in June or July of 2012, roughly two years after the 'current' events of Steins;Gate

You didnt pay attention then blames the stuff.

In was explained in 2.0 in two different ocasions, the opening with the angel, those pillars were keeping it at bay, nerv/seele had the technology for something similar and the second time in the same movie is the facility that kaji brings out the children, they are trying to reverse the effects of the coreification of the sea caused by the second impact.

They even explain how they created a new organization under Wille called Kredit to help the survivors, you see their logo everywhere in village-3, even misato's works with them.

"The red oceanwater isn't explained either"

Yes it was, gendo says that the "Second Impact purified the oceans"

EVangelion always did the enviromental storytelling really good in these movies, you can always infer info from it. But then, you are going to complain it was cryptic and nothing was explained, so there is no way to convince you otherwise

they even show how earth gets coreified with the wanderers

I really like the new movies, but people not paying attention and missing important information always get me

After a few days of use, my initial impressions with the Kindle Paperwhite 5 (Signature Edition for the internal 32GB storage and supposedly greater battery life) are pretty positive so far to read manga and light novel stuff. I really do enjoy that the screen itself can be properly read under direct sunlight, with zero screen brightness, and it makes me wish all portable devices were like this. The e-reader is exclusively in black&white but I hope the screen tech will evolve one day to include color.

Although again the main reason I've gotten the e-reader was to continue consuming japanese books in their original language, as importing them was taking not only room space but shipping fees were getting more and more expensive as of late. I've bought fifteen mangas in kindle format for 65€, while importing them in physical format or buying them in my native tongue would have costed me more than the double now. The series I've just purchased in moonrunes were GTO, Rookies, Gunbured x Sisters and Yubiwa Monogatari (Tales of the Wedding Rings).

Edit: if you feel wanting to read japanese volumes, a VPN is required to buy stuff in Amazon JP, otherwise consider BookWalker (held by Kadokawa)

The 27.5GB of free space should sustain more than enough to stock around 200-250 volumes at once in the Kindle (a manga volume generally takes between 90MB to 120MB, a light novel don't go above 30MB). I'm also keeping kindle copies inside my computer as backup.

Don't kindles use some form of Android? If so, pop Tachiyomi on that fucker and ditch the VPN.

because in the end it's a game (or an anime etc) meant to entertain, most people don't want to do/watch mundane stuff like traveling. it can work in a game as a design element (traveling in real time suddenly becomes a factor instead of just porting around) or for some nice landscape shots, but most of the time it's boring.

VR won't change anything about that. think about this: if you could port from A to be B right now, why would you travel by plane/ship/car or even feet for hours...?

there were colored e-ink screens years ago, but usually way more expensive and limited in color. I didn't hear a big news since then so I assume it's not considered feasible or they ran into other roadblocks.

does kindle still use that crappy proprietary format where you have to convert every time or does it finally support the epub format from 2007?

90% of any isekai is exactly mundane shit like walking to point B or discovering basic magic spells while LARPing as a master archmage. With the most pretentious characatures of discordniggers that all act like they say the most important things ever. When in reality they are bickering about what they want for lunch for several fucking episodes back to back at any given time. - and dont you ever dare think about asking that girl out who is the same age as you and totally into you, that's a summary execution for comedic relief.

Its only still around because of consoomers and coomers.

The Fire tablet is described to use a modified Android OS not the Kindle Paperwhite itself.

Also my non-free VPN is quite useful to get access in japanese websites otherwise blocked in my country, be streaming services or websites that simply didn't comply with the GDPR. The VPN is mainly necessary before clicking on the 1-click-buy button, in the desktop website of Amazon JP, while I can download the ebooks directly from my Kindle with my normal IP. The process is a bit weird but I can manage just fine, not the first time Japan restricts the purchase of digital goods one way or another from outsiders (like how it's impossible to buy digital games in the japanese Nintendo Eshop or PSN without prepaid cards from Play-Asia).

I've read Amazon officially added epub support on the Kindle, as of December 22th 2022, but the catch is that they have be sent through a Kindle email address tied to the account.
