I downloaded the new gundam movie and my TV doesn't add the subtitles.
Jesus fucking hell I fucking hate smart tvs, the only thing this piece of shit is smart at pissing me off.

Added external subs and finished the movie, it was pretty good. it had some moments of tonal whiplash, but it is a nice adventure which expands the original episode. The kids were pretty alright on this, but I fucking hate sleggar voice in this, there is zero chad energy on it.

Still, it is nice to see how Doan at least in the Origin continuity doesn't die in the end.

Found the tonal inconsistency to be a problem with the whole Origin anime, like one minute you're watching Char's mother tragically die of grief and 5 seconds later it cuts to Dozle Zabi or whoever comically leaping around and screaming like a caricature of a wrestling villain. I don't think Yaz is much of a director tbh.

It's not like Tomino didn't jump around tonally like that all the time in the Gundam shows he directed (or his other more serious work). Even if you're right that Dozle should've been toned down in a lot of his scenes given he's very exaggerated from the original version.

Although I am surprised they aren't trying to shill actual "woke" series, Yes they do exist and no I'm not talking about series that happen to have some fetish shit (traps, yaoi, yuri, gender swap, setc.)
The only notable one I can think of is Hourou Musuko/Wandering Son which I do remember being talked about by certain anitubers years ago but the rest seem to be limited to oneshots or axed in 2-3 volumes
It probably has something to do with anime is more "casual" friendly or more normie friendly than manga, so you can have anitubers talking about it. It's why Wandering Son is being the only known woke one, notable mention is probably Stop! Hibari-kun.
Also, traps/otoko no ko and gender swap genre are probably the two closet things that can deal with actually trans thing as their main theme, rather than being a side-plot/character. Well, few of them are.

After that it's just current days mental illness projecting their ideology, anime examples:
Steins; Gate with Ruka Urushibara and Felix/Ferris from Re;Zero. More recent ones would be Yuka from Blue Period, but since Yuka is more of a side character, so he isn't that much relevant as the story goes on.
A very old one that would fit so much for "lesbian" troons should have used instead of Ranma, is Kashimashi Girl meets girl.

The 3 manga being "woke" I can think of, as in trans theme in a positive portrayal, not being axed or has very short story overall.
1) Bokura no Hentai
Screenshot 2022-06-10 at 19-39-39 Bokura no Hentai.png
Blondie, Marika, is the trans one. Effeminate gay if I have to describe, as in very girly and interests in male.
Blue hair, Parou, just gay and like sex a lot because, big spoiler in late chapters, he unironically was raped/groomed by older ex-neighbour boy and forced by a senpai. Well, maybe this part isn't that woke.
Orange hair, Yui, cross-dressing so he can deal with his mental illness mom because his sister died in an accident and the mom is well prefers her more than him.
I unironically think this one is a lot better than Wandering Son, because it doesn't drag on some characters' plot/story arch too long and not wishy-washy with conclusion for each character.

2) Family Compo, but it's manga only and being quite old (late 90s and early 2000s). Asking current days "audience" to read would be wishful thinking.

Basically, male MC (blue shirt) gets accustom to his transvestite relatives.
The "uncle", Sora, white shirt, is actually a woman, mom.
The "aunt", Yukari, yellow dress, is a man, father.
The daughter, gender fluid, likes to switching clothes/gender expression between male and female.

3)Yuureitou
Yuureito.jpg

A mystery-horror series about finding a secret treasure in "ghost" clock tower and dealing against a serial killer ties with the clock tower. Tetsuo, the guy on the left in front, is actually a FtM. But, despite the trans theme, I at least recommend this for the mystery part and one of the villain is somewhat similar with male troons, like obsession with being/becoming a beautiful woman.

Since I mentioned about current days mental illness projecting their ideology and trap thing. Recent twitter drama localizor.

Somehow, consulting with mental illness is more important than consulting with the author. Yeah "as accurately as possible".

Context: Seven Seas translation translates the trap, Hiura, as a transgirl. Meanwhile, the original scan group points out mistakes from Seven Seas scan and an author interview clearly states the character is male/identify as male.

Suzuki is the interviewer, Banjo is the author.

Didn't one of the characters choose not to transition at the end, though? That's not very woke.
Yeah lol.
I really did like the faded, water color-esque backgrounds of that show and its general 'soft' design was nice.

Edit: To Hammr2's comment above, I'm surprised they don't bring up Kashimashi much either, but I don't really frequent 'those circles' much online so maybe I just don't see it. Recently did a rewatch of it because I'm working through all the old shit I watched in my mid-teens back in the mid-00's and it was a lot more jokey for a decent chunk and only really started to get serious towards the last cpuple episodes, so maybe that's why.

Discotek re-released Kashimashi on blu-ray and made it a point to change the subtitles to be "careful of gender and pronouns" since there's a bunch of fags and trannies working for them. 1654875355058.png

It's not even funny how they're going against the creator just to appease their ideological nonsense. I wonder if this was done before the union nonsense or if they'll even fix this like they did with the light novels once they were caught changing the story. So much for Seven Seas being reputable.

If anyone wants more nuanced details on how much 7S fucked up the translation, this may help:

Even sub-human Yaoifags hate it, let alone troons:

I'm surprised that Najimi from Komi Can't Communicate hasn't been brought up yet. Though I suppose because their unknown gender is played for laughs more than anything.

I also started SpyxFamily the other day, it has my attention so far.

I think that one might cause a lot of woke types to blow a mental fuse.
On the one hand, it portrays one of the characters' transitioning as a legitimate and positive thing. On the other, it is very much inconsistent with the "all gender issues are trans" attitude a lot of them have, doesn't pretend that Yui and Parou's cross-dressing is a positive or healthy thing, and Parou is clearly the way he is because of sexual abuse. It's a much more nuanced take than the "inside of every icky boy is a pretty princess waiting to be let out" attitude that's so common in those circles on the internet.

Speaking of which, there's a lot shitflinging going on in the One Piece fanbase due to Yamato. The gist of it is that a bunch of trannies on the usual places like reddit and twitter are sperging out at anyone who refers to Yamato as a woman and holding her up as some "trans" symbol while completely missing the entire point of her character gag.

Meanwhile Oda just wants an excuse to draw fanservice with her.

I finished watching the 1st season of Chuunibyou, and people were right about the characters being annoying as fuck. I did hear that the 2nd Season is forgettable and can be skipped, is that true?

And I do wonder if Maaya Uchida voicing Rikka, as well as another chuunibyou character in Ranko Kanzaki from iM@S Cinderella Girls, was an intentional reference, or not.

I just watched Doan's Island. It's different. It's almost two hours long, so it's pretty lengthy. And not quite as much robot action as some are probably hoping for. But, the animation is quite nice and the characterization is really good here. And I do get why it's so long. It's more or less of a skill showcase for this team to sorta sell people on the idea of a full-on 0079 remake. It's still weird hearing so many new voice actors playing these characters, but most do a pretty good job of it. It does have some good mobile suit action at times though and I did get a big smile on my face at times. I'd really recommend it if you are a big UCfag or just want a nice little slice of life story that happens to have a robot fight at the end.

It'll be like Black Butler all over again. Where spergy Westerners harass a creator on twitter to make a character canonically transgender. It's no wonder that more and more Japanese fans get increasingly pissy when Western "fans" start showing up in Japanese online spaces and make demands. I hope someone brings this to the author's attention and that she decides to raise a stink about it.

I hope it does happen, it's a shame how these 'fans' treat the authors.
