(Potential autistic rant inbound)
I'd rather not go on yet another long tangent on my thoughts regarding the Rebuild films and the franchise in general, so I'll just say that the original and EoE are must watches, but not necessarily works that you may like. They did set the standard for anime today, but they also have many elements that are divisive, and in my honest opinion, simply don't hold up.
In that regard, the Rebuild films, while going in their own path, share many of those problems. For me at least, 1.0 is just okay, 2.0 is the apex of the entire franchise (yes, bite me), 3.0 isn't bad, but also extremely mean-spirited and brings in all the problems I personally had with the original series, and 3.0+1.0 falls somewhere in the middle of it all, having some of the highest highs, yet still not feeling like the most satisfactory kind of ending they could've gone for.
Like, to compare Rebuild to one of my favorite films, the first two films put together are like the first Matrix installment, 3.0 is a lot like Reloaded in terms of subversion and themes, and 3.0+1.0 is nearly a copy-paste of Revolutions, right down to several of the major plot beats (hope that doesn't spoil anything). And hilariously, 3.0+1.0 then feels like it influenced Resurrections.
