The best Fate adaptations are really Zero (really only issue is certain backstories being cut, gore, and an autistic edgy inner monologue about hamburgers), Case Files, and the more slice of life spin-offs.

The problem with Fate series anime adaptations, and pretty much all VN and light novel adaptations I imagine, is that there's always going to be characterisation that can't be carried over into anime form cause it's just a different medium. For example there's a part in the VN where Shirou thinks to himself he doesn't have the right to enjoy a fun trip to the shopping district because of his PTSD but in anime form they can't just make him inner monologue those sort of moments all the time.
It also didn’t help that in Unlimited Blade Works, Nasu didn’t want Shirou to express his feelings openly in that adaptation but rather through facial expressions. Like Nasu is a good writer but there are times he’s completely stupid and anytime he makes changes to an anime adaptation of his work is a definite highlight of some stupidity he has done.

I think its fair enough to ignore Fate adaptations that are not Zero/Stay Night/SOL spin-offs. You don't want your brain to be fried to fanfiction-tier stories.

Zero is really boring.

And I did read the novel too before even watching. Jesus, it was hell.

It is my least favorite fate but not the worst since last encore exists. But jesus christ, the characters are so dreadful and boring that to have 2 or 3 worthwhile characters in such a big cast is a complete mistake.

Apocrypha completely understands the Fate aspect of it and is really fun and well made. The backbone of Fate is the characterization + concepts, by doing these well, you are already halfway through. And to this day, Apocrypha in the anime department still has the best OST.

Is it me or is trying to plow through the remaining chapters of Kaguya-sama a bad idea? Originally a high-school rom-com now turned into some arranged-marriage mafia stuff that is getting me bored and the only reason I am continuing is because of Hayasaka until the latest chapter, which effectively made the supposedly-gag moment between her and Chika into an actual hint for them becoming lesbians. It's rare for me to drop but I am getting very close to dropping it.
The only things that keep me going are the comedy moments and the spin-off 4koma. I stopped paying attention to the plot for a while now and just reading it because I want to see how it ends.

I'm reading through Demon Slayer at the moment and this was a panel at the end of Vol. 4.

...Are they going to try to cancel the author?

Real men start with Carnival Phantasm.
I never got how people can start with CP. All the jokes are plot and character based so you have no idea what is going on unless you already know everything about the franchise anyway.

While we're on Type Moon, has anyone actually read the Tsukihime remake that came out?

Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie

The anime for this comes out next month, and I just read the first few chapters for it. It’s kind of a mix between Tonikaku Kawaii and Boku no Kanojo ga Majime Sugiru Shojo Bitchi na Ken, minus the excessive amounts of ecchi jokes.

If handled well, this could be a good romantic comedy/drama.

I did not, actually I never finished the OG tsukihime, only finishing Arc route (plus the old anime + manga), I am still on ciel route and always feel lazy to come back

Just started watching Jashin-chan Dropkick. Now this is anime.

The type of show that is a ton of fun to watch but you could never recommend to someone who isn't big into anime. If you're interested, watch the OP. You'll be turned on/off accordingly.

Is that the anime with the topless snake girl? I remember seeing a clip of that and getting very “4koma comedy” vibe from it.

Please do not use that to abbreviate Carnival Phantasm in polite company.

Also there's a Tsukihime remake? I'll see if I can find that.

Yeah. They did a Girls Frontline collab for some reason.

It was definitely 4-komaey,

Why would I talk about CP in polite company? I only talk about CP with weebs, they love CP!

Yeah it came out last year after like ten years in development. Arc and Ciel route no H. Apparently they completely change the story

It was only on Switch and Playstation with no English release so nobody but hardcore weebs have seen it.

Personally I didn't like the more slice of life Type Moon shows because I think very few of those characters are entertaining enough to be in a slice of life (with maybe the exception of Alexander, Taiga, and maybe Red Saber on a good day).

The only good Fate spin off was the one where Waver solves mysteries while he smolders over the loss of his bromance.

reject fate/gay night
embrace Garden of Sinners

With the Tsukihime remake out I wonder if they'll try to adapt it into an anime again. The original attempt was legendarily bad.

Still don't get the whole "didn't exist" thing with the tsukihime anime, sure it was bad but I can probably think of worse anime/adaptations.

Yeah the Tsukihime remake is a Japan-only thing but it is very different from the original. There likely won't be an english release unless Nasu is convinced there is a good market for it in english speaking countries.

Though there are only two routes so far, since other routes are going to be added later.
