Final chapter of the Dr. Stone manga is out. I'll give the series a 7/10, it was interesting enough for a shonen even though the pace is too insane. I expected a technoluddite themed Girls' Last Tour reading the premise, but that dream died about 3 chapters in.

Yeah the manga overall is pretty enjoyable, but it had some pretty bad pacing issues at times where things felt too fast. It was still good, and I do enjoy it and the ending was pretty much what I expected it to be.

It started out strong, then got weaker after Treasure Island. Main problems being the cast got too large for the writer to handle so everyone just kinda did nothing (in the end the MC just kinda handled the main threat himself while the other people just kinda stood around and acted threatening), the technology getting too advanced for the initial premise to really work anymore, and general rushing like everyone ended up saying.
 
Can someone explain to me what is going on with Eureka 7 as a franchise?

The original TV series is one of my favorites, the TV sequel, Astral Ocean, retcons the happy ending of the TV series in such an awful way that you can't help but render AO non-canon despite there being a few interesting aspects (but ultimately was mediocre, 100% felt like it started life as a new series before Eureka 7 elements were grafted on)

Now they have a new movie trilogy which I hoped was going to be some kind of redemption, but I got spoiled on an even WORSE retcon than AO, like seriously, how do you bring a franchise back AGAIN and fuck it up it even MORE?

Does anyone know the deal with this? Usually I hate to be spoiled on something but in this case it makes me glad I didn't devote the time to watch the new movie series if that's the kind of shit that happens.

Agreed.
I didn't even like the Pocket full of Rainbows movie.
To me, the 50 episode series was enough. All Bones needed to do was make a one episode OVA of "The Day After" pictures.
 
I vaguely recall seeing what I believe to be the last episode of Eureka 7 one night on Adult Swim many years ago. I never watched any other episode so I had no idea what was going on, but I distinctly recall seeing the main couple embracing and kissing as they fell towards the Earth. All with an emotional sounding song and some disembodied female voice congratulating the two.

Then we shift to some old guy with kids drinking pop reminiscing about everything.

I had no idea what was going on, but I couldn’t help but feel touched by it all.

Is that what it was or was that a completely different show? Because I would like to revisit that sequence of events one day.

I never even bother with Pocketful of Rainbows because it was supposed to be some AU type thing.

But AO was a direct sequel, the trilogy seemed like another retelling but I was interested until I learned it's not a retelling at all and it's angle on how it connects to the TV series ruins the whole thing.

But yeah, the original TV series was long and felt like it told a complete story, there really was no need for anymore, it was done.

Do they even make dense 50 something episodes at one time series anymore? Seems like anything with an episode count above 26 is split up into multiple seasons, not Eureka 7's approach of 50 episodes from the start.

I'd definitely tell you to fully watch the anime & movie before the manga. I say this specifically cause the animation quality mogged the manga. I say this for both seasons & the movie.

If you need some help with the anime (I'm also anime-only, except the parts that have already aired) like the whole Mugen Train anime version with it's changes & addition, I'll help.

I assume Eureka 7 was made during a time when anime just came out weekly until it was complete. For better or for worse, that’s just not how they do anime anymore. It means that adaptations of ongoing series get less filler, but it also means that adaptations for completed series are much more likely to be forever unfinished at 12 episodes.

You can get it if you know where to look. Fan translation is almost done with the arc route.

and nasu says 4 years minimum before farside remake. Just kill me.
 
The E7 AU movie actually did link into the main timeline, the ending of the tv show actually influencing the events that happen in the film, as I recall. Didn’t retcon the happy ending though.

Even though it did decline once they got to America, it could've ended a lot worse and I'm glad it didn't completely shit the bed. Still not sure how I feel about the Medusas just being a sentient hivemind of mechanical alien parasites and how easily Senku talk no jutsu'd them.
 
I kind of fell behind on new Jump series this past year. Any recommendations?
If it helps, some of the recent series I've enjoyed are Sakamoto Days, High School Family Kokosei, Time Paradox Ghostwriter, and Undead Unluck

Indeed, anime was very different in the 2000s and below, second seasons just weren't done with very rare exceptions, usually you got what you got and that was it either a shorter series or something ran for hundreds of episodes.

I mean correct me if I'm wrong but stuff like Naruto like just went on and on with no season breaks, hence all the filler, correct?

The transition to more western style seasons in the 2010s has been a good thing, it's just a shame it didn't happen sooner, so much cool shit from the 90s and 2000s that just left us hanging instead of getting multiple seasons.

Cool, I probably should have watched it at some point, but I just didn't care because the ending of the E7 TV series felt very emotionally satisfying and that was so rare for anime of the time, usually you were left hanging with "go read the manga!" style endings even when no manga existed or it didn't have a real ending either.

Personally I feel it declined a bit after South America with the second petrification, but it just became pretty decent near the end with some pretty amazing art. I am fine with that personally, though I wish that it took a bit longer as I felt that the author just wanted to make sure the series ended 5 years after the same day that it started
 
I'm enjoying Sabikui Bisco but I'm really hoping for some reliable translations of the new novel. I dont normally like BL but I dont mind it here since it's not super weird and almost incidental in a way. Milo saying "I love you" before shooting Bisco was a well-donen moment. But if what some fans are saying are true and a) Bisco winds up with Pawoo AND Milo and b) Milo somehow winds up pregnant the same way as Pawoo I'm dropping it. It's a shame since I like the anime and first light novel but I don't fuck with mpreg.
 
While I've been enjoying Sabikui Bisco, I noticed I've been developing the same meme brainrot as a bunch on anons on /a/ cause that one sequence in the beginning of the most recent episode where Milo was trying to hook up Bisco with Pawoo just immediately reminded me of all those resident evil memes where Chris is begging people to impregnate his sister and I ruined that moment for myself. It was a great ep, though.
