Random question for you all, do any of you still watch anime using a TV or do you manly use a computer.

Question mainly popped up because I asked my brother a few days ago why the hell he got a CR membership when we both know serval ways to get that shit for free, and his response was he kinda hates watching anime on a monitor and he's willing to fork over the minimum amount if he can watch it on a tv and couch.
I am really tempted to get him a chromecast or something for christmas but I don't know if his brick of a laptop can even work with one in the first place (plus I already got something he wanted and its a somewhat unwritten rule for our family to only get one gift per person).
Phone, it's the mobility that I prefer
Although to be honest, using phone is also tend to be distracting because of notifications and such

One gripe I have with Plex is that I haven’t found a way to set default subs/audio for an entire show, so I’ll have to go manually switch to the right subtitle track whenever a new episode starts (it remembers afterwards though).
I remember being able to set default audio for Demon Slayer when I was watching it (because God help me, that dub is HORRENDOUS) but idk how to do it now. I think your best bet (and what I did probably) would be to change the global preferred audio setting as a whole and switch if you prefer the alternative. As for default subs, I can't help you. Check the Languages setting, maybe theres something there.

It depends. Think majority of anime I watch is on the computer, but if I have a physical copy, gonna shoot for the TV when I can (current TV watch: Kokoro Connect). Even if I have downloaded the files, depending on how I'm feeling about it or if I'm gonna watch it with a brother or two, I plug the USB drive into the Xbox and watch it that way. A few years back, back when 9anime's autoplay worked, I opened it through the Xbox and that's how I mainly watched One Piece.

Urusei Yatsura I was mainly watching on the TV since it's on YouTube, though when the episodes started getting more scarce, I decided to move to the computer for it which I think is what slowed me down. It was the same with Oishinbo.

I tried watching Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san on a television via Crunchyroll's ad-supported free streaming app on the Playstation 4 and the streaming worked fine for several episodes but towards the end of the first season, it started crapping out after the mid-commercial break so I've gone back to watching streaming anime on a laptop. For anime on physical media, I either watch it on television (my only option if it's a Blu-Ray) or, if it's a DVD, I can either watch it on television or on one of the laptops since I'm someone who still uses computers with optical drives.

I know DVDs look like garbage on 4K televisions but I only have small TVs anyway and DVDs still look fine on a small screen.

Your first mistake was using Crunchyroll.

What's wrong with using HDMI on the laptop?

I use a dedicated media PC connected to my TV mainly. Not sure if there's a new thing like PS3 Media Server that would allow you to stream over the network to a console, but I used to use that for TV watching. I haven't tried watching on my phone and hate using the media interface for streamed content on that thing. Used to use Kodi but writing a rename script to make filenames compatible with tvdb got annoying.

Don't use plex but searched "plex preferred language" and found this, though it's global. Doesn't seem to allow you to rank preferences (ex. jp,en so anything not Japanese chooses the English audio).

I either watch on my "new" 4 year old laptop who's connected to a gaming monitor, or the 8 year old computer that's connected to the living room tv and takes a long ass while to start going. Watching anime on big ass tv is always nice, but a hassle due to the age of the pc.

I sometimes watch it on TV if it's with family that I visit. As lame as that sounds, they got me into anime. The apps for CR and Funi are really touchy as others have mentioned, for some reason they tend to not work halfway through the show. For the most part I download anime off Nyaa or watch it on random foreign sites when my weekly show airs. You'd be surprised at how Plex works with almost any laptop. If that laptop has an HDMI port, he can just visit some pirate website and watch it there. Make sure to get him some adblock/malware protection beforehand and he'll be fine.

Anyone familiar with Mobile Suit Gundam? Finished up watching one of the OVAs on Netflix. Thought it was okay (liked the political intrigue, but wished they coulda done more with the characters). Is it kinda like a Devilman thing, where the manga's better than the anime? How many adaptations are they are?

Its been one year since Houseki no Kuni went on hiatus. Have a pleasant 9999 years.

It's an anime original. If you mean the Origin manga, that's a reinterpretation of the original series (good though! very well drawn). The original Mobile Suit Gundam was the first of anything Gundam, then Tomino did Zeta Gundam, ZZ Gundam, and finally Char's Counterattack which makes up the primary Universal Century watching experience. Technically ZZ isn't related to CCA but it follows up some stuff from Zeta you'll be curious about and Unicorn follows up on the ZZ exclusive stuff. There's also the movie trilogy versions of those, but while the first one is a retelling with some edits that are canon, in particular the big finale to the third one, the Zeta movies go in a different direction and aren't canon to the main timeline. I personally watched the first third of the original series, and then the second and third movies. Some characterization is inevitably rushed but they add and expand enough to justify it.

If you somehow aren't burned out and want even more UC from Tomino after that there's CCA Beltorchika's Children, Hathaway's Flash, Victory Gundam, F91, and Turn A (sort of, you'll see lol). Then there's the non-Tomino OVAs like Unicorn, War in the Pocket, 8th MS Team, and War in the Pocket. I highly recommend the latter two. If you want non-UC stuff it's all wildly different and people have wildly different opinions. G Gundam is a super robot show and Build Fighters is whatever genre Mega Man Battle Network was, for example.

Just caught up with the JJK manga, and looking at reactions online it seems like I’m alone in really not feeling the current killing game arc. The premise feels super contrived, and the fights remind me of Part 8 Stand battles amped up to 11, where half the page count is spent explaining the retardedly specific mechanics of the opponent’s powers.

I guess I’ll have to wait and see if the anime changes my opinion on it (once it gets to this point in like 5 years lmfao) because I’ve been liking it more than the manga.

Just want to say that I’m glad that My Senpai is Annoying is getting great reviews and is now being viewed as about as popular as Mieruko-chan and Komi Can’t Communicate.

As far as 2021 goes, this one would be in my top 10 list for sure.

Speaking of Komi, the mangaka artist Tomohito Oda announced on his Twitter that she’s getting a second season:

The title is honestly super misleading because Takeda clearly doesn't annoy Futaba (she just lies to herself lmao), but God, My Senpai is Annoying is too cute and gives me the feels hard now that I'm in a relationship that fulfills my "huge guy, tiny girl" kink dynamic and the jabs at her breast envy give me the giggles. Though the beta couple of Kazama and Sakurai is cute, too, they're way too good to just be the B-plot like that.

Looking forward to the second season (I will be big upset if it doesn't happen).

(Although My Love Story!! is real hard to top, I won't lie. But I'm glad we got contenders.)

That and Kyuuketsuki Sugu Shinu was popular enough that it got a 2nd season announcement after the last episode. All praise John.

I never got in to the anime of Komi despite reading the manga for 50 chapters. Too many artstyle shifts (and I loved Shaft). But it looks like everything I liked got a 2nd season (except for Tsuki to Laika, but I was watching that more because the Russiaboos on /a/ made some good threads).

From seeing some of the My Senpai is Annoying manga being posted online it has some great comedic timing. And the anime is supposedly different enough that it's worth reading.
