Fuck, I'm awful at keeping up with currently airing anime. I forgot to watch the Shigechi episodes of the DiU anime and I haven't seen another episode since, not to mention I'm still only on episode 7 of both Mob Psycho 100 and Time-Travel Shoujo. I think the only show I've consistently kept up with is Dragon Ball Super, and it's not even very good.

I think Super not being that great is Toei fucking everything up by not spending longer than a couple weeks on each episode. Toriyama has even slyly lambasted the quality of the anime.

Oh yeah, it's totally Toei's fault. Hell, Toyotaro's manga has been blowing the anime out of the water every step of the way.

Applimonsters has begun and the first episode is basically Tamers' opening two episodes condensed into 22 minutes. Only saving grace is the main protagonist being more humble, sensitive and generally more relatable than the usual gogglehead. Apart from maybe Takato.

I'm glad that the Digimon series finally got a DVD release. I picked up Tamers as soon as I was able to.

Someone put together all the current JoJo openings (really hope it doesn't get taken down soon...):

If I had to rate them, I'd go
  1. Sono Chi no Kioku ~End of the World~ (opening 4)
  2. Sono Chi no Sadame (opening 1)
  3. Bloody Stream (opening 2)
  4. Crazy Noisy Bizarre Town (opening 5)
  5. Great Days (opening 7)
  6. Stand Proud (opening 3)
  7. Chase (opening 6)
The first three I listed are pretty much on equal footing musically, what made me list them the way I did was the accompanying animation. I actually really love all of the songs on here save for Chase. I don't hate Chase, but I do really dislike how it's basically just Generic Bleach/Naruto/Shounen Anime Opening whereas all the others are so much more memorable. The animation is awesome, though

To be fair, Chase was for the part of the story that was still pretty standard shonen fare (and part 4 is on par with part 5 for most shonen in the series imo). I think the full song is criminally short compared to the rest.

Frankly, the sixth opening feels the most off key compared to the others. And I can't quite place my finger as to why.

I think it's because it's the most anime-esque opening JoJo has had. Most of the songs for JoJo are fairly unique in sound and content but Chase is the one that breaks the mold the least.

A weird request, but does anybody know of any good Anime Short Series? I've watched Di Gi Charat and Luluco but can't think of many outside of that.

So who here's watched the first Drifters episode?

Baccano's a 16-episode one you might like, if you can handle violence and gore.
-Issac and Miria's scenes are some of the best gags in the series.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica is only 12 episodes and is on Netflix. There's also a followup movie called Rebellion, which is also on Netflix. PMMM one of my all-time favorite series and I recommend it to everyone!

Wakaba Girl is from the same mangaka as Kin-iro Mosaic and it's really good.

Welp, Mob Psycho 100 is over. All in all, it was pretty fantastic and I really enjoyed it, storywise it was very much a story told by ONE and visually it was a banquet. Its minimal usage of CG animation and reliance primarily on traditional animation really helped push it, and it had a lot of visual styles and techniques that were really awesome. When it comes stateside I'll probably buy it.
Late, but the fluid traditional animation and visuals are Bones for you. I was honestly surprised that they didn't fuck it up. We'll see if they do more adaptations of it, but only time will tell.

The techniques they used though were such beautiful callbacks to older anime that made MP100 really stand out. The lines being imperfect and mostly rough looked great and everything about the auras and special effects screamed 90s anime to me. The blurring of shading on skin but not on clothes was also a really small but effective design choice.
