I always preferred the 2003 anime to Brotherhood/the manga.

You could say that part of it is due to nostalgia, since it was one of my favorite anime shows during the Adult Swim glory days of the early-to-mid 2000's, but I honestly preferred the story of the first anime and the direction it took.

It helps that while technically a shonen, the 2003 version of FMA is not like most stereotypical shonen anime and feels a lot more serious, while Brotherhood very much feels like a bog standard shonen anime of the late 2000's.

I haven't watched Brotherhood because I couldn't get myself go through the whole plot again. It is interesting to hear someone saying the original anime is better because people justify the quality by being faithful to the manga. Personally I really liked the concept of Wrath and I kinda wish he was a canon character.

Haven't noticed any scanlation memes, had no idea there were any lol. Reminds me of the time my brothers and I came across a sub for Kirby of the Stars on Veoh that had a blip of "Snape kills Dumbledore" in the middle of an episode. I miss it when fansubs would do stuff like that.

In all fairness, the 2003 series technically has its own canon. I love how it handled Wrath, as well as Sloth. I also found Dante to be much more interesting than Father.

While I admit I'm incredibly biased because I watched the 2003 series first and love it to death, I just couldn't get into Brotherhood, or the manga, because it felt so much less impactful and the characters came off as bland. I prefer the original anime's darker tone, and I'm certain some people bash it simply because it doesn't have a happy ending.

Which software do you guys use to read the cbr/cbz format?
 
Is anyone here watching Magia Record, the new Puella Magi Madoka Magica anime? I've been playing the game its based on since June (when it launched in North America) and I'm really happy it's gotten an adaptation.

If you're a fan of the original series, I recommend watching the new anime and playing the game. Even if you're not interested in the game, the anime is worth watching and really recaptures the feel and tone of the original Madoka series. It's so nice to see Madoka getting revitalized although I'm still waiting on the Rebellion sequel

But I was still always curious about what the storyline from the original creator was and it sounds like the manga is the best way to experience that, even if it winds up not being as good as the 2003 series.

Personally I'd also recommend the manga as Brotherhood, while I prefer it over 2003, had a lot of weird pacing and awkward moments early on while the manga felt much more smooth and a more consistent story so the manga is the best bet

Watching it and yeah, it's still excellent and reminds me why the original show was so good. I kinda wonder whether the story will be as dark as the original or be more lighthearted.

The gacha game was far more lighthearted, though it does have some messed-up elements due to the nature of the setting. However, the anime has already deviated from the original storyline in quite a few details, so the level of darkness is anyone’s guess as of right now.

Glad to meet another fan! I'm very happy with how the anime is going so far, even though it's deviated from the game quite a lot (the same basic plot is in place, but the details have been changed a lot). I can't wait to see where it's going.

I'm also really digging the music, although it's a real shame the queen herself Yuki Kajiura wasn't brought back to do the OST. I'm a big fan of her work. I still think the new sound track does a good job of capturing the feel of her music.

Yup, the game is a lot lighter and softer than the original series, focusing more on the girls themselves and their relationships with each other. This has a lot to do with the setting, as in Kamihama City magical girls are encouraged to cooperate and form teams due to the Witches in Kamihama being very strong and numerous.

It also has to do with the Doppel system in place in Kamihama, as magical girls do not have to fear becoming Witches when their Soul Gems completely darken.
 
Decided to check out Laughing Salesman NEW cause of this thread, digging it so far, the OP is especially good. I like how I'm not even entirely sure if the point of it is to teach a moral or it's just its own breed of torture porn.

I'd really recommend anyone who likes it to check out one of my all time favorite manga Franken Fran, has a similar tone but with more of a focus on genuinely interesting and creative body horror.

I adore Franken Fran! Definitely one of my favorite manga. Your review has intrigued me, I'm definitely checking this out.
 
Today was the episode of My Hero Acadamia that I’ve been waiting so long for, and the animation did not disappoint.
