That's brilliant! Though I would say Brad and Mike aren't riding his coat tails, they're strangling Doug with his own coat and laughing.

Noah also never rode his coat tails either, he was asked to join the site if I recall.

I will say this, however; I cringed every time he salted over the Youtube uploads being taken down, especially whenever he tried to boast that it happened because Hollywood was afraid of him.

are there any internet critics who actually seem like they're enjoying themselves most of the time? i'm burned out on misery parades
I think he's been mentioned before on this thread but have you heard of a critic called SFDebris? He's absolutely brilliant – he first came to attention doing reviews of Star Trek but he's since vastly expanded to cover a wide variety of other science fiction shows and films.

What's so good about him is how much work he puts into his reviews. The level and detail of research and knowledge of the genre that appears in his videos is staggering – he's not just some dumbass who watched Star Trek growing up and now considers himself an expert on science fiction, he's a real science fiction aficionado. Although he mostly covers the soft stuff he's read a lot of hard science fiction novels and actually has a detailed understanding of how real science works (he was a teacher before he started doing reviews full time).

On top of that, his rate of output is also very impressive. He releases several videos every week – each done to a very high standard and nothing stops him from producing them (except superbowl weekend). There was one point where it looked like he'd end up as a single dad to his twin sons (his wife has issues with her mental health and it caused her to nearly leave him permanently) and he still kept up his reviews without wavering. He didn't even make a big deal out of e-begging when it looked like he'd be going through financial issues at this time (I think he asked people to consider turning off their adblock but that's it – no Linkara-style guilt-tripping video). Someone like him makes you realise just how lazy and pathetic a lot of other internet critics are.

Also, his reviews are genuinely funny - his jokes derive from actual humour rather than endlessly recycled memes and pop culture references.

He did admit to liking the Star Wars prequels but that's just his personal opinion and he said it was more down to finding them entertaining rather than objectively good films. He's no EU sperg.

He recently joined Channel Awesome but his presence there's largely sentimental – he doesn't need them, and if anything he brings some much-needed quality content to that trainwreck.

So yeah, sorry to gush a bit. Back to trash talking.

Fuck, I'm sure the Screen Junkies guys wrote that part as an actual pisstake towards Doug and he just thought "Oh hey, they're making something about me, I should ask them to use it." And not realizing that it's actually a video against him and NC.
I'd like to think that was the case but they included that thing he's been whining about where his videos have been taken off YouTube. I dunno, maybe they were trying not to be too obvious.

Honestly it could go any way, I personally think they just took a look at his YouTube account and decided to add it into the video. Seeing as how they followed it up with the Cat in The Hat title card (that movie is a total shit pile).

I finally started watching Razorfist.

That dude fucking blows just about every other Net critic I've seen out of the water. He reminds me of what Spoony used to be before he stopped giving a fuck about anything. I might just have to watch every single video he's made.

That's where I'm at right now. Noticed he likes to take shots at Yahtzee (and most of The Escapist) and Channel Awesome.

I think it is important to acknowledge those who are half-way decent now and then. Nice break from the suck

I kinda like how Tacoman has just accepted he's a low-rung reviewer. Sure, he takes shots at AVGN and Game Grumps but Sam T more willing to take shots at his own failed projects first.

The thing about Razorfist is 50% of the time he's brilliant. Right on the money. Hits the nail squarely on the head. The other 50%? He comes off as an imbecile. These usually fall in where his biases kick in. He'll flat out lie in his reviews or statements about game franchises or other things he doesn't like. One of the most egregious being half of what he says about Metal Gear Rising, and especially his attempt to make a case on why anime sucks by saying the animation is far cheaper than American animation. What does he use to make this case? He compares a clip from Dragonball Z (a long-running television series made in the late 80's without any season breaks and known for its fluctuating animation quality) to a clip from Beauty and the Beast (a feature film made in 1994 with a sizable budget behind it).

There are things I don't particularly like that I find myself taking issue with his stances on (like the Metal Gear franchise). When his biases kick in they can lead him to forcing himself to find, or make up, reasons not to like the thing. He'll make statements about these things that are demonstrably wrong, and if you call him on it he has a habit of giving a disproportionate reaction in return.

I hate to say it because overall I really do like the guy, but half the time he's brilliant and half the time he ranges from ignorant to a liar.

It was spot-on.
It also was a pretty good review. Like, I think the sketches can work if they can blend in, aren't random, and actually are genuinely funny and not an awkward attempt at using the actors.

Eh I don't know, Doug's examples of 're-imaginings' at the start seemed to forget that those particular franchises (Batman and James Bond for curious folks who don't want to watch) were 're-imagined' because the previous instalment was god-fucking-awful.

At least from my reckoning...

Isn't Razorfist that metalfag that hangs out with Asalieri?

Ok I'm starting to not like this guy (that was quick.) He said he doesn't like Yahtzee because he "will bash a game for a while, no matter his opinion and then end of video," but that's his entire Fallout: New Vegas video. Yells about the bugs for the whole thing and then says he likes it a lot. When Yahtzee reviewed that game he did it in a role play manner.

Yahtzee actually points out in his Mailbag Showdown video that while he's generally honest with his reviews, ZP is still a character. ZP is all about being a critic and he purposely focuses on everything bad about a game and mocks it, because that's his job. He does far more insightful and balanced critiques and analyses in Extra Punctuation but going to ZP and expecting positivity is like going to North Korea and expecting freedom of speech.

My issue with Razorfist is that he, like many people, doesn't like to be proven wrong. He's still rather insightful and even profound at times, but when he's trying to back up a position with very little evidence he'll take a page out of Doug's book and be as much of a petty, whiny nitpicker.

Also, his edgelord schtick bugs me.
