Weeell, there's a game that has been with me since I got it as a wee lad back in the age of Morrowind and Gothic. Arx Fatalis
An ego-perspective rpg, which takes place in a fantasy world. Actually, beneath said fantasy world. See, an ice age broke out and no one could stop it, so the human king got every race together, said "I think we could survive if we dig real deep. Like REALLY deep." The rest of the races went "GENIUS" and started digging together in the name of survival. A few years later, everyone is beneath earth, EVERYONE, no one was left on the surface due to time-constraint, no siree, no one at all.
People start killing each other for the bests spots, kingdoms start forming, some messengers become an order of badasses because they travel the surface to deliever their news.
AND THEN YOU CAME ALONG! Your MC gets wizzarded, captured by goblins and you then take control.
I enjoyed it for it's interestening solution-seeking and the way you can interact with the world, such as tossing technically edible stuff into a fire to make it actually edible.
Also the magic system is interestening in that you can store up to three spells ready to fire by forming the necessary runes. Using magic in combat is not that good an idea, so storing is the way to go. The game is also pretty open once you get past the prison.
