I guess we can't edit older posts? I re-read mine and somehow forgot to mention Sonic Advance as one of the best Sonic games along with 2, Mania, and Adventure. It seems to get ignored by everyone, even people like me who like it.

Classic Sonic and Classic Tails confirmed for Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania!

That's pretty cool. Just the dumb type of thing to get me to play a game I otherwise wouldn't.

Recently played through the entirety of Sonic 2006 on an emulator. The game is surprisingly a lot more tolerable when the framerate doesn't chug when there's more than two physics objects and the load screens don't take an entire fortnight. The only time I got frustrated was when I got to Shadow's Radical Train level, where you had to destroy Eggman's train using a bike with a mounted turret. The physics on vehicles are god-awful.

Does it make it a good game? Fuck no. But I still had a lot of fun playing it.

Yeah, but I guess that I'm used to how linear most Sonic games are.
And I believe that's part of the problem when it comes to level design in 3D Sonics, even good ones like SA2 and Colors. Pretty much every level is a linear highway suspended in midair, where-as levels in SA1 like Ice Cap and Red Mountain feel a lot more grounded because of how wide, winding, and vertical they are. I feel like Sonic games could deal with a bit of bit of exploration. Imagine a game with an open world like Breath of the Wild, but you have Sonic's speed and agility at your disposal.

If you want a taste of what I mean, go play Sonic Utopia, and take note of how expansive just the demo level is, how good it feels to move when you aren't literally on-rails, and how rewarding it is to move fast when speed isn't an instant gratification button.

Technically, a wide open sandbox could work for Sonic. But then it could devolve into people running past the fun parts to get a massive time bonus or it'll be a little bit on the easy side on account of how you can avoid a challenging area simply by picking another route.

Unless, of course, the true ending is gated by hiding the magic gems in places where you're less likely to travel to. Plus, it'll be an missed opportunity to have the blue blur running around this giant open field without any sort of branching levels.

Maybe, but speedrunners skip 99% of the content to Breath of the Wild, making a mad dash straight to Hyrule Castle to fight the final boss. Despite this, nobody thinks that the game would be better off without the open world structure.

The real challenge would be getting a competent team at the helm so that it doesn't end up a half-baked mess.

Well, they made an isometric Sonic game that was more of maze, back in the day; so it shouldn't be that hard to screw it up.

Day one bugs from the new Colors port.

It's mostly texture, audio, and UI issues.

Also don't remember the game crashing on the Wii.

Leave it to Sega to break something that wasn't broken to begin with.

Also, the remixed music sounds like ass compared to the originals. There had better be an option to switch soundtracks, otherwise it'll be a no-buy even if they fix all the problems plaguing this port.

Might as well add this video to the discussion.
*sigh*
This comment pretty much sums up how I feel about this "remaster".
