The hell is Shadow's "supporting role", anyway?

And don't give me that he's like Vegeta bs. He's just angry. Angry at nothing.

Shadow had purpose in SA2, where he was brainwashed by Gerald to carry out his posthumous revenge plan to destroy the world because his granddaughter was killed by the military. ShTH meandered a lot and has numerous plot holes regarding the "multiple paths" thing, and Gerald's revenge plan back in SA2 doesn't make sense in context of the alien invaders, but it at least brought his angstiness to something resembling closure. Then he played a role in '06 in uncovering the true nature of the plot.

After the soft-reboot that was Colors, he's been rendered the generic edgelord that everyone joked that he was. Especially in the Boom spinoff. The current writers don't know what to do with any of the characters of the characters, nevermind Shadow.

Because of the talk about Knuckles, it gives me an excuse to pull this great Running Shine clip up.

(I wish I was able to post it when the MysticMaryy stuff was going on)

Btw I left out a really good part after the clip so it would just be Knuckles. I would recommend watching Shine's actual video because it's really good.

So a new Sonic Colors: Ultimate trailer dropped.

The notable parts of it are.
1. The replacement for getting 100 rings (classic invincibility powerup)
2. More information about the costumes
3. Footage of the Jade Wisps in action
4. Footage of the Metal Sonic race mode in action

This whole thing just reminds me of that old Sonic Colors: Episode Metal mod.

Now I want to bring up something I found that is related.

There was an old 2018 HD mod for Sonic Colors by a person who goes by "Melpontro".

Note: I don't think it was publicly released, the creator called it a "proof of concept texture pack" after all.

Holy shit this thread has become super dead, I thought OP would post about the Steam Sonic sale but no lel.

Eh, I know this is going to be a triple post at this point and I'm sorry but there has been some interesting stuff with Colors Ultimate and it's almost its release date so might as well make a final update.

So a guy named "Tiny BaloonzMT" on YT has been uploading a lot of Sonic Colors Ultimate gameplay videos lately and the most interesting one out of them is one where he showcases the Cosmetic System.

The music was a addition by me btw.

The other thing I wanted to bring up was how Sega stole old ass fanart for the Metal Sonic icon which somehow makes the mode even more lazy, I didn't think that was even possible.

sonic made chris chan what he is today. if you have or know anyone with autism, stay away from this series for your own safety.

in other news, i got all the 2D sonic games on steam for cheap the other day. played sonic 2 and actually beat it for the first time in my life (thanks quick save).

gonna play sonic CD soon. never actually tried the game in fact, i had no idea it existed until i played sonic mega collection on the gamecube. that game always felt like a fever dream for me since a part of me still thinks its not real. it also sadness me that alot of the cool stuff i found with sonic mania came from sonic CD. makes the game feel less special.

Mania is just better than CD, CD is a clusterfuck

It's like the things people didn't like from 1 were extended through the whole game, music's still bopping yes but holy fuck stop making me bounce all over the place
Don't forget that it has the time traveling mechanic that activates at a certain speed, but levels feel like they weren't built for it and you end up being lost trying to activate different timelines

Both of you answered your own complaints, more or less. The reason bouncy things exist is to gain speed for the time travel mechanic. For example, if you see two springs facing each other, that's a guaranteed time jump.

The HD remake does fuck up a few things compared to the original Sega CD version, particularly on Quartz Quadrant. The thin conveyor pipes that shoot you out are supposed to make you go fast enough to activate time travel, but they don't for whatever reason in the HD version.

Running between two springs is almost a staple of the series. But they probably never considered this because this is one of the more harmless traps from the 2d games.

It's a cool idea which wasn't implemented too well.

The Future signs are a trap, so there's no reason to venture there. The less time you spend in the Present, the better. Basically all of those assets are wasted.

There ought to be some sort of high-risk, high-reward incentive to go to the future. More enemies, a harder stage boss, something like that.

Any recommendations for what to get from the sonic sale? I always wanted to try out sonic adventure, but I'm not sure if it's worth it.

SA1 is worth it with mods but alone it's kinda shitty which mainly stems because the version they used is DX but you can get the mod pack called "BettersSADX" to make it better.

Anyways other recommendations would be Sonic Generation, and maybe Sonic CD if you haven't played either of them or just want to play with mods.

Note: SA2 might also be a good pick, not a big fan of it myself (mainly because of it ditching the hub worlds) but everyone says good things about it and at the very least the Chao Garden is good.

Everything else is either mediocre/bad or you can just play on an emulator (that has rom hacks as well)

Btw Sonic CD for some reason doesn't have an in-game control fig and you have to get a mod to change them, it's this way with SA1 (and maybe SA2 idk) but for them, it's a lot easier to find a control mod for them.

I know there's one out there for CD but never got it to work and gave up on the game as a whole lel.
