How much of that makeup actually gets used before getting tossed out after going bad? I don't see how you could possibly need that much makeup unless you're just hoarding, can't even imagine how much money they spend because I know that makeup/skincare isn't cheap.

I recall there's an old thread here about a Youtube community that obsesses over escalators. Like they'll post videos of them riding escalators and show who makes them and review them. There's also another Youtube community focused over toilets in the same way, and probably similar ones for all sorts of everyday stuff. It's autistic as hell, but that's the sort of good autism since people like that are the sort who could easily be hard workers at installing or repairing escalators or even doing industrial design to build new ones or for the toilet guys working as plumbers (although you might not want to hire a plumber who seems cold and detatched until he starts obsessing over your toilet). I'm sure these flashlight autists could do the same and help some company design better flashlights.

You haven't done anything bad either. We have a rule of not doing anything to them, so if anyone do anything. It's on them, and we do not condone it.

I used to be like this, man. Not really brand-heavy but I would look at these aesthetic consumer videos and tried to mimic that "feeling". I had some cool ass things but it didn't matter because nothing felt like how it was shown on other's pages. I wanted more. And more. Even though I had no space.
Then I realized "oh hey, I have a fucking problem".
Jeff Yeager wrote some great books about this mindset and how to save money while spending it on things that will actually make you happy. He's pretty eccentric but that's what makes him so entertaining, he's not your average serious "financial" guide.

These people usually have no personality and feel like the things they own make up for it all. That and they cling onto certain brands in order to escape the isolation individuality normally comes with. After all, why try to be your own thing when you can cling onto materialistic groups that all share the same interest?

I have this thing that I'm not sure how to really talk about or describe, so if someone knows what I'm talking about and has any reading suggestions or a direction to point me, please let me know.

Spoiler: The THING (spoilered because off-topic)

It's something akin or related to the concept of simulacra, but the thing I don't know how to talk about is the specific feeling those things invoke; like something "doesn't count".
I struggle to define it, but I can provide examples of it.

• A wedding in a local park with decorations are all from a dollar store/big-box store like a children's birthday party
• Plastic pots painted to look like they're made of ceramic
• A church in a strip mall
• Those luxury-brand restaurants from earlier
• Exotic vacations photos where everything is cropped just so to make it look like something extends beyond the frame, but nope, all you see of whatever "it" is is within that area

This isn't something like a pet peeve either. Maybe I'm autistic or something, but it genuinely interferes with my perception of certain things. I struggle with places like theme parks because of it. It's like there's a barrier to the suspension of belief that I just can't seem to overcome.
