And I have no clue who most of these people hanging around with Mickey and Riku are and why I’m supposed to care.
I agree that KH2 was the perfect point to end it all, with a perfectly bittersweet ending. But alas, Nomura's ego started inflating dramatically around that time.

If you've played only 1 and 2 you've missed like 70% of the story, and KH3 will not waste time telling you who the new characters are. Nomura did his damnedest to make every installment as plot-important as possible (with the exception of Coded, which was pure useless filler), so if you jumped from 2 to 3 you're shit out of luck.

I for one thought visiting almost entirely new Disney worlds was a colossal breath of fresh air since the franchise is infamous for recycling the same goddamn levels in all of its installments (it's become a fucking meme in the community).

The reason FF characters were originally added was because the executives at Square thought Disney characters alone would not be able to carry the game. But over the years the series has developed such a thick lore that the FF characters have grown redundant.

No spoilers but the ending can only charitably be described as cheap where the main trio is concerned. The final level also focuses on closing the plots that have been lingering for more than a decade (Chain of Memories, 358/2 Days and BBS) so if you've played none of those chances are you won't find it satisfactory.

So just play 1 and 2. Got it.

So I’m playing Dark Road and playing is a word I’m using lightly because I just set it to auto and leave it alone for a while and the gacha elements are there which is something I was afraid of. Hopefully the story is all there and I can just bang it out

I started MoM and completely bombed it. I came back a day or two later and everything clicked. I've made it to the Dream Drop Distance section. It's pretty good

I had to pick between Hyrule Warriors or Melody of Memories since the two releases were too close to grab both. Got the former while my roommate got the latter. Tried it out, it's pretty good. Also helps that I genuinely really like the soundtrack from the series and it's definitely one of the series' strongest features.

Just watch the relevant cutscenes of the "game"
Any game with an "auto" feature has very, very little thought needed.

I long gave up on Dark Road so I've been youtubing story updates like KHUX. I just beat the MoM story and I read that people were mad about Kairi not being on Sora and Riku's level but let's be honest. She performs better here than Lea does in III. I think Xemnas literally breaks Lea's.

Am i the only one who wouldn't have minded if Kairi remained a plot point for Sora and Riku?

Seen a lot of complaints about how she keeps having to be rescued, but i never saw an issue with that. Did people really get that invested in her character?

Then again i'm a guy who's headcanon is 1, CoM, and 2. No BBS, nor anything else after 2.

Still have yet to play Kingdom Hearts III for the PS4, but 1.5 and 2.5 for the PS3 are pretty good. They actually add on to what made KH 1 and 2 so great.

Kairi´s problem is that for being the only girl she´s either useless or a hindrance even after being trained with Axel inside the Hypertonic time chamber.
Her entire identity is that she´s the girl sora likes and has to rescue which when compared to the other female keyblade wielders means she´s got the short stick.

Makes sense from that point of view. Maybe i just don't see it cause Kairi as a keyblade wielder never really clicked to me, don't care if she ever gets strong or whatever, matter of fact, wouldn't have batted an eye had she remained Sora's damsel in distress

When compared to the disney Princesses (her equivalent)

Elsa got over her 'tism and unFrozen her sister
Rapunzel wanted to see the outside which she did and Kairi the only old princess of heart got her man tony stark'ed.

Either make her a damsel or don't, that is my issue.

They keep half assing her development and forcing a bunch of scenes make her seem like a competent up and coming heroine that will become a good back up to Sora and Riku, yet she is so worthless when things actually matter. Aqua is almost as equally worthless since her ending in BBS and has since just become a jobber. Unlike Kairi thought Aqua actually is supposed to be taken seriously due to her being "Master Aqua" and is presumably the most competent of the BBS trio. At least Kairi has the "I'm in-training" excuse.

Pretty much everyone except Sora, Riku, and Roxas suck when the chips are down and the big fights come up.

Doesn't Ventus have a heart purely made of spritelight?
Is that what caused his braindamage?

I wouldn't even include Riku and Roxas in there anymore, since KH3 the whole games just been about Sora despite due to the ending of 3D he should be the weakest of them all. It was honestly my biggest gripe about 3 no one but Sora mattered at all.

Ventus has heart damage or something due to being force split with Vanitas, I don't know if that causes brain damage but I'm sure some KH theory autist has figured that out. Although is Ventus even relevant anymore? Like the X-Blade's relevance pretty much began and ended with BBS. I don't think anyone brought it up in KH3 at all beyond exposition. Like no one gave a shit about Ventus fighting Vanitas in KH3 like they did in BBS.

Sora might be the main playable character, but Roxas/Riku still looked competent from time to time in KH3. Riku also has had multiple times to show his relevance when conflict arises throughout the series. Roxas is at least partially relevant due to his connection with Sora and was at least competent for the 10 or so minutes he was in KH3. Roxas didn't job super hard like Aqua did when he showed up in KH3.

Everyone else is just jobbing, though Riku jobs a little bit with Dark Aqua which is weird considering Aqua jobs every other major conflict she is a part of.

Don't forget Terra. Somehow the most mocked main character in the series pretty much 180'd his reputation in one game. Lingering Will talking in III has always been weird to me, though.

Attention: the entire series is finally getting released on PC.
On EGS for $230.
