Dafuq? I thought it was just something they did impromptu, and it was cringeworthy at that. They actually planned before doing this?
It was one of the shows on their Indie GoGo campaign. I long since stopped paying attention to TGWTG when they were running this, but apparently they raised this amount so they were gonna create a game show that they would then pitch to networks, which ended up being Pop Quiz Hotshot.

Some other things of note:

1) As this is 31 minutes, it would be hard to pitch this to a network since there's no room for ads without heavily modifying the format or cutting it down a lot.

2) Pop Quiz Hotshot was released more than a year after it was announced to be in development. It was almost becoming a running joke that it would never release.

3) Pop Quiz Hotshot was one of three other shows that were planned from Channel Awesome (there was supposed to be a comic book show and a video game show iirc), although those never materialized. I believe those were cancelled.

Yep, people have gone on to say they did at least five different versions of this pilot too. And as @ThunderCavalier mentioned, it was part of their Indie GoGo campaign. Doesn't answer the question of where did the money go (obviously not to this, seeing as it looks like they spent next to nothing on it). But I guess we'll never know.

There are hour long game shows out there (The Price Is Right, for one). So they could try making it into something like that. But that would pose a problem since most quiz shows are only 22 minutes in length (before commercials). So who knows how'd they handle it.

It's like they didn't even think of what length the product would actually be if it ended up on TV. If you were doing an animation, say, wouldn't you also know to cut it to about 22 minutes, like every half-hour animation show out there? Or to around 45 minutes (although that is shrinking every year)?

Well, they're internet reviewers. They have no concept of shortening things down.

In my opinion, Joe is on the right here. Sony and Microsoft no longer have any problem with their footage being shown and monetized, it's basically free advertisement. Nintendo Japan is just a bit behind the times.
No one will argue that Nintendo trying to flag videos because they feature Nintendo games is showing them being behind on the times.

However, Joe could have kept his video up, if he really felt he wanted to review the game. He took it down. Why? Well because he couldn't make money off the video if it was flagged. He removed the video, not Nintendo. He tried to profit off a tribute video to a friend who killed himself. Joe doesn't cover a lot of nintendo stuff from what I've been told, but he sure does love complaining when he can't make money. Also his fans bought him his Wii U, the guy who makes 6 figures off youtube has his fans buy him systems.

He's still just an asshole trying to make a buck, and there are two million fans who think Angry Reviewer = gold. Fuck Joe, and fuck those subscribers.

The problem with your example is that most independent animators are amateurs with only a fleeting concept of forward planning and how to chart an animation to be of a specific length. They mostly rely on ball park estimations and given that they just end up uploading their content to the internet anyway, length isn't a huge issue.

Similarly, the Walker brothers are the same way only I don't think this was actually made for television; Doug has gone on to say multiple times that he specifically wants his state to be the alt-Hollywood and that he wants to establish the internet as a legitimate front for content for the people of Chicago.

He further elaborated that the reason why is because whenever people ask him about his occupation and he explains that he does movie reviews on the internet, they blank out on what he said, grasp at straws of what they just heard and ask "Porn?" According to him, it takes him a minimum of three tries to get the average Chicago citizen to grasp that the internet is good for more than porn. I take it that most Chicago citizens still live in the early 2000's.

So what he's basically saying is that he sees himself and Channel Awesome as a type of group that makes content similar to Hollywood and how he wants to make Chicago the hub of this "web Hollywood" or some shit like that?

That... actually seems remarkably arrogant and narcissistic. Is he implying that he has this talent or that he's actually put that much time or thought into Channel Awesome to make it that great? I mean, I know that Nostalgia Critic's been getting more skit oriented as of late and some work done by the producers is pretty well done, but... stuff like Pop Quiz Hotshot just show their overall inexperience and unprofessionalism.

Pretty much.

I'm going to be merciful by saying that, if he was being sincere, he was merely being foolishly ambitious. The biggest problem is that they couldn't have foreseen the outcome due to their limited experience with an allegedly live show; first timer's tend to suck the hardest at their new job. There's also the fact that they apparently have had a bunch of valuable connections that they've neglected to use.

The Walker brothers, Doug in particular, give me the impression that they are simply horribly unaware of the atmosphere or the actual resources in their reach. If you listen to Lordkat's rant on the gameshow, he mentions that they have ties to people who have worked on actual gameshows that they could've hired as staff. They were also approached by a professional website development company, offering to redesign their site at a notable discount back when TGWTG was still around and Michaud turned down the offer, which shows that he is a cheap, greedy motherfucker of a man who would forgo long term benefits in trade for short term profits.

Given how evasive Doug is when it comes to being confronted with in-company politics and the fact that Michaud was ever in charge at all sorta implies that the biggest appeal in being internet critics for the Walker brothers was the opportunity to be taken care of, without shouldering the burden of thinking for themselves & being absolved of responsibility.

I seem to remember that they met a couple of stretchgoals by the way that meant they needed to make more shows:

Ohhh... they did. Not only that, but they promised full on seasons too.

But this is a pitch specifically for TV. Do they even watch TV?

I really hate it when Doug goes for easy targets. It always seems like the easier a target is for him, like TMNT 2014, the less effort he puts into it. Like he expects us to already know how bad something is.

It's for the fans. They just want their hate for a movie like that to be parroted back to them by their hero. It's a win/win: the fans are satisfied, and Doug makes money using little time and effort.

There's been a bit of trouble in Team Snob, turns out that one of Brad's friends is a collossal douche canoe.

Although it doesn't help that he got involved with a complete fucking weirdo!

Brad Jones said:
"I was told people were wondering what happened with me and Jake, and I consider myself to be very honest, so here's what happened. For the better part of a year, I had an on again, off again thing going on with a girl named Rayn, who was from Michigan. She had come down to Springfield to visit me, and I had gone to Michigan to visit her. For a while, things were absolutely fantastic, and she ended up moving to Springfield, which is why she started showing up in a few videos. Honestly, things were pretty great. It kinda cooled off a bit, but within the past few months, it seemed like it was getting great again. We were very romantic with eachother, we went out of state, we started brainstorming new projects, and words from her were used like "maybe for once I could settle down" and "we're going to have a great adult date, I'm even going to get my dad to watch my son so we can have amazing alone time."

Then I made the unfortunate mistake of introducing her to Jake. A man who thinks with his dick so much, that's probably what was doing most of the taking in his reviews. He knew the whole story about us, he knew I was planning on asking her to move in with me, he knew every single piece of our history, because I told him about it at the last convention we went to. That was all we talked about on the ride back. But banging about 10 different women, and going after 17 year olds wasn't enough for him, so he moved in like a snake, and made sure that he was always at her place every day, conveniently always needing a ride somewhere, and then borrowing my car to apparently go over there himself. All while telling other people in the group that there was no way I'd fire him because I would lose all of my revenue. (in reality Jake videos only made up 5% of my income). His replacement gets better hits than he does.

This is a guy who stood up with me at my wedding, this is a guy who I considered a brother for well over a decade. This is a dude who I was always there for when he went on a 2 year terror, because a friend started dating his ex several months after the relationship ended. And then he goes and does something worse for literally no reason other than he could. And to his credit, it worked. He's a sociopath and a pathological liar, with a history of anger issues and schizophrenia, so yeah, he can actually be pretty damn charming. I was told about the Rayn and Jake thing by her at a convention when I asked if she wanted to move in with me. She said she couldn't be with me unless she could also be with Jake too, because now she loves us both. So, naturally, I had a bit of a problem with that lol. And the ride home from Indianapolis was very awkward to say the least. Especially when she said "you're being selfish, I want a communal family where I have tons of kids all from different fathers." Suddenly I was questioning my feelings for this girl =)

So, I broke it off, and completely cut ties with Jake. I haven't talked to him since, and I have no plans to talk to him or work with him again. The term "dead to me" may be overused, but it serves a purpose sometimes. Everyone else in the group just ignores him, and I don't hear anything from him, except for the occasional text from Rayn asking how my day is. Honestly, that was a horrible horrible thing to go through, especially when it involves not one, but two people I loved and unfortunately trusted, and had to cut ties with. I'm still dealing with it, and it's been incredibly hard, and I don't wish it on anyone. It's one of those things though that I'm glad it happened at 33 and not 23, because 23 year old Brad would probably still be in a bar and shitfaced. I haven't drank at all since it happened, but I have smoked more cigarettes.

On the plus side, Jake could probably make a living as an author, because his version of it is a fantastic piece of fiction, which he tried spewing out to anyone that would believe him (and no one did, because it's the story of a crazy person). Essentially his version is "whaaat, I didn't know anything." Even if I hadn't told him about me and Rayn, and even if she was downplaying things to him to make him feel better; he still saw us kissing, he saw us holding hands, and he was at a convention where she and I shared the same hotel room and bed together. Moral of the story is, if you love someone dearly, never ever introduce them to Jake Norvell. Or whatever this thing is that used to be Jake Norvell."

I just saw that yesterday, I wasn't sure if this was the place to post it.

I watch the Snob's Midnight Reviews with his friends, and the gang's relationships with each other always confused me. Sara and Brain used to be married I think, then divorced, then I know in a few reviews Jake was talking to Sara like they were in a relationship, and now Sara's with Dave? I always thought it was weird how everyone seemed to constantly be on the go in the group, but this is just heartbreaking, to think a friend you've had for more than a decade goes behind your back with the girlfriend just assuming Brad would be okay with a polyamorous relationship without apparently even telling him.

The Rayn (Raynbow?) chick is pretty off, anyway. First: her name is Raynbow. Second, apparently her son's name is Shadow and Jake would come over to see him more than Brad. That whole comment of her wanting different fathers to have different litters of children is really creepy, Brad looks like he dodged a bullet. So far she's just tweeting to herself how horrible it is that Brad stopped all contact with her and is "blaming" her and making her and Jake look bad. Crazy people.

Yeah, the whole dynamic Brad's friends have with each other got kinda weird at some points. It apparently got to a point where most of them couldn't stand one another off-camera.
