It really depends what the material is, why it's created, how it's marketed and sold, and the degree of originality of the derivative work. There's sort of an uneasy truce on what people get away with because none of the big guys who could really push some kind of scorched earth litigation against their fans really wants the law clarified. They really have nothing to gain by attacking individual commissioners and artists. Start selling thousands of copies of stuff in direct competition with them, though, and they'll bring the hammer down.

It actually depends on the day of the week. A large number of VAs now commission fanart themselves which they print on cards and sell with signatures (rather than signing headshots not many people want). This includes many Funimation VAs. But sometimes Funimation gets a stick up their ass and sends their scary IP lawyer to harass cons and artists about copyright infringement. And there are no hard and fast guidelines nor consistency to this process. Partly because it pretty much always causes negative PR blowback every time they do it.

Are they really sure they want to normalize telephonic panels? It's really hard to say 'you don't care about the safety of women and con staff if you invite Vic' if 'inviting' him means putting him on a discord call while he sits at home. I recall Vic also did a digital signing thing, though I have no idea how that worked. Combine the two, though, and there's no excuse not to invite him 'digitally' even if you think he's a megarapist constaff abuser.

Ah, yes, I see. It is a violation of his right and they should have waited, but it didn't really impact the end result. I dunno what they should do to 'make it right', other than in the future just wait for the imam/priest/whatever even if it's transparently an attempt to stall. What's a few minutes to a few hours when he definitely delayed for years with appeals as it is and is about to die regardless? Doesn't seem like something to get worked up about though.

I think I found the guy, Dominique Hakim Marcelle Ray. Read that he also killed 2 teenage brothers.
Read that "Ray's tardiness was a central factor in shooting down the imam request".
Also read that they don't want security risks and that his imam can only watch from the next room behind glass.
He also tried to request to get the Gas Chamber 10 days before his execution.

I don't think it was a serious relationship to begin with, like it was... not a fling, but companionship(?), so I would imagine that makes it easier to just be friends instead.

It's funny. They're trying to frame it as anti-Muslim discrimination or whatever, but if this article is accurate, according to the judge, no spiritual adviser, of any domination, has been allowed in the execution room. The execution chaplain is there because he's trained to deal with the regular soul-crushing events of watching men die.

Regarding the imam, Watkins was blunt, saying there was nothing compelling him to deviate from Alabama protocol.

"The state has never allowed an inmate's private spiritual advisor to be inside the chamber during the execution, regardless of the private spiritual advisor's affiliation," he wrote.

The judge said that the chaplain at Holman (who is Christian) is "a trained member of the execution team" who has "witnessed dozens of execution and trained on how to respond is something goes wrong… If the chaplain disobeys orders, he will face disciplinary action."

His dad pulled a Douchette and ditched Vic and Momma Mignogna. Had to fill the void with dad figures, namely Kirk from Star Trek (which explains Vic's love for the franchise).

Seeing how genuinely Vic seems to appreciate every one of his fans, it's not much of a stretch to think that the fans give Vic a sense of family.
