I'd say it's a good think to see John decline in relevance, but you'd have to climb to a peak to descend from it in the first place.
Gamergate really was something of a peak for John, though. After successfully
bitching at his peons to make his game bringing a video game to iOS and
conning gullible rubes out of their money completing a Kickstarter to bring it to PC, he jumped headfirst into the controversy, threw shit at anyone who'd dare besmirch the reputation of Queen Zoe, and then used the "lol shut up"s he got back as proof of harassment, milking that into plenty of sympathetic coverage and thousands of Patreon bucks. He then used his new notoriety (with Frank's help, of course) to get speaking engagements and interviews on various networks, as well as being allowed to publish uninformed garbage in various opinion pieces. He even figured he was famous enough to get elected to Congress solely due to being a "woman in tech."
But the increased fame also lead to increased scrutiny, and things have been slowly tumbling down since then. He dragged his feet on actually publishing Rev60 on Steam, and only after being hounded about it for a couple years did he finally do so, the result being roundly mocked both for being a bad game and for being utterly broken at the very end. His Patreon has been dwindling steadily since Gamergate started, either because people let their pledges run until their cards expired or they finally realized they weren't getting anything out of it. News coverage is still fairly positive, but a lot of people don't seem to have a good opinion of him, especially the people in his district that he needs to win over. He was blown out last election, but he still thinks he has a chance this time around, despite Lynch's generally positive approval rating and no support from the DCCC since he's trying to primary an incumbent (he should thank AOC for that). And of course, let's not forget the truly galaxy-brained takes he's posted, like the infamous moon rocks debacle.
John's peak may not be truly high in the grand scheme of things, but it was the highest he's ever been, and he's unlikely to reach that level of moderate notoriety ever again. Assuming he fails at his congressional ambitions again, will he try a third time, attempt some other scheme to remain relevant, or fuck off and play video games badly for the rest of his life? I guess we'll find out in September.
