So can you play this game solo, or do you pretty much have to play in a team? I know in the old ones, there was a certain point at which you were pretty much out of luck if you wanted to solo it.

Yeah, I think the last one I played was the original monster hunter. It's been years since I played it, and I was a kid at the time, but I recall that there was a massive difficulty spike when you fought your first "big" monster while playing solo. This game is very solo friendly, especially with how the difficulty scaling currently works. The main thing is really learning the ins and outs of the weapon(s) you pick and adjusting to the monsters patterns with those. Around endgame is when you might benefit from doing groups if you're farming for mats but even then its still probably faster to solo. Fighting AT monsters ((Arch Tempered)extra buffed) is way easier solo than groups just due to HP bloat and having the chance of other people carting when you're not. Groups really matter with the more Raid type hunts like Kulve, and debatably EX/Behemoth due to the mechanics associated with them. One of the main things that really matters and was made a lot easier in this one was building sets with lots of skills since they got rid of negative effects and having to go to 10+ to activate them.
Truth be told, the only game that really required groups at a certain point was the Original MH due to monsters being locked behind the online mode and even then I'm not sure if you had the option to solo them. The games have always been built with the idea of butting your head against the wall until you learn something it seemed to me, and just having the patience to do that. Multiplayer is very active though and there are plenty of ways too hook up with other players if you do need it.
If it was on the PS2, it was the original, but most of the difficulty comes from the HP bloat. The games didn't really account for the amount of players though, so the HP multiplier was the same if you had 2 or 4 guys. That was probably the spike you remember.Yeah, I think the last one I played was the original monster hunter. There's no way to fully negate ATVs brap, moving him somewhere else, slapping down a health booster and/or having a horn or guy with wide-range healing are pretty much the only ways of dealing with it. Elfuv res on the other hand is almost a necessity given how hard he hits.Didn't notice the new poll, would love to see an HD Brach or Zinogre, they were my favorite additions to the franchise I think. I've been hunting Vaal for the past 2 hours for a gem just to make a charm so I can hunt AT Vaal without all the nonsense DoT it does. The desire sensor in these games is too strong.
You can solo but you're definitely missing out if you aren't playing W multi (Kulve is specially built for it for example). As OP as the cats are (especially at putting monsters to sleep) they're still not close to actual other (competent) players so once you hit endgame you have to really know what you're doing in order to tackle the highest tier of mons. I'd usually just fire an SoS when playing by myself just because it makes the hunts far more chaotic (whereas as long as you know what you're doing sp hunts usually go the same way most times) though it certainly does test your patience at times (because this game is absolutely filled to the brim with shitters). Watching your three teammates all drop down a ledge right into ATVs hose attack which he was telegraphing as they approached and take your carts from 3 to failure in a span of about 3 seconds is the kind of comedy gold you can't get if you just play offline all the time.So can you play this game solo, or do you pretty much have to play in a team? I got so rattled as soon as I started playing today and realized that. I did forget about the health booster though so now that probably won't be too bad. There's no way to fully negate ATVs brap, moving him somewhere else, slapping down a health booster and/or having a horn or guy with wide-range healing are pretty much the only ways of dealing with it. It's all about staying on him so you can react to the hose (unless you can guard). Fire bow puts in work against him (though you have to primarily aim for the head or tail since he's armored for most of the fight). Most ATs aren't too bad once you know what you're doing and/or use a cheese build (ie, heavy spread gun against Pony). Only really tough one is Nergi because he hits like a truck, can bounce from one end of the map to the other in a split second and has a metric fuckton of HP.I got so rattled as soon as I started playing today and realized that. Edit: With the booster the fight is probably one of the easiest ATs, that made a real big difference.
It kinda depends on what type of decoration you're looking for, and how annoying you find lavashit to fight. Big Chungus is a pretty easy fight when you get used to his damage but he mainly coughs up the R6 stones, with a small chance for R7. Personally I look forward to Lavashit more because, while he is incredibly irritating to fight with his jumpy stuff, he gives out a lot more R7 stones which have a better chance of being an S-tier decoration. He's the reason I have most of the good meta decos. Big Chungus just gave me a metric fuckton of mostly trash.I heard for Deco farming that the Greatest Jagras is the best option for doing so.
I really hope there's something to this, particularly since Lagiacrus is one of my favourite monsters. He was intended to be in world but they couldn't get him working right and was ultimately cut. If they can get him in they can even get my favourite leviathan Agnaktor in. Best monster in Tri and had a great armour set. Also a subspecies of Glavenous - Acidic Glavenous was announced at SDCC today. There are also some MH branded cookies that may have been sold at the event that have Icons of monsters printed out onto them, including Acidic Glavenous so people at the MH thread on /vg/ think that there may be a connection. Seregios, Zinogre, Gore Magala, and Legiacrus, as well as something I can't make out near the bottom were included.

I'm stuck between calling that guy a cunt for bailing so early or considerate since they died so fast and just removed themselves from the equationa greatsword user carted twice and then bailed so it was just us three for 80% of the fight.
Yea same. Initially I was like "What an asshole" but then again it was better than getting us carted from the quest or just hanging back and trying to leech. He did input some crying stickers before departing so I think he felt bad. Tbh I should have removed him from the quest (it was my SOS) when he joined, his gear/stats weren't up to snuff and I knew it but I was excited because a component longsword user and a gunlancer with the same build as me responded to the SOS.I'm stuck between calling that guy a cunt for bailing so early or considerate since they died so fast and just removed themselves from the equation
You can always solo stuff in this one, i'm guessing Master Rank quests will be the same though. So can you play this game solo, or do you pretty much have to play in a team? I know in the old ones, there was a certain point at which you were pretty much out of luck if you wanted to solo it.
