Actually reading the article, the academics quoted are an American studies professor, a Sociology professor, an associate History professor, and a full History professor. Both of the actual History professors defended Cortez as being motivated by the "powerful association" between concentration camps and whats happening, but they said they wouldn't have used the term concentration camp themselves.
Basically, they say she's wrong to use the term, but she did it for the right reasons. The other two, American studies (lol) and Sociology (double lol), went full "Drumph is basically Hitler" but given the relevance, or lack thereof, of their studies to the topic at hand, we can safely discard their opinions as not relevant as academics.
At the end of the day, the actual relevant academics say Cortez is wrong, but since she's doing it for the right reasons it's ok. Good article, Newsweek, I can see why you are now online only.
