Most point to Remoraid and Octillery for weird evolution lines, but I honestly find Clamperl and Gorebyss/Huntail to be stranger. Why does a clam evolve into one of two deep sea eel creatures? Best explanation I've heard is Clamperl's "pearl" is actually some sort of egg that evolves into either one when exposed to the trade item. The dex even repeatedly states that Clamperls only have one pearl their entire lifetime.

When I read the Canalave City lore I thought that it meant when "humans and pokemon were indistinguishable" was that they were mostly human but some were particularly adept in elemental powers and rose to become godlike animals while the rest of the unskilled ones lived to serve them in exchange for blessings, from which the care, training, and use of Pokemon arose. I thought it was a cooler backstory than "oh one day a metapod became a person" at least.

A nice chunk of the questions in this thread can be answered through browsing Helixchamber (despite RacieB fiasco, they are, in general, reliable). Bulbapedia still won't implement leaked gen2 beta info cause "it may be fake" (despite all the evidence to the contrary), so who knows what info is there based on admin's whim.

Is there a Domechamber? Kabuto/tops is objectively the better choice.
Also I'm still amazed that g2 beta was found at all. I remember hearing speculation about what might have been on it way back in the day.

We both know there isn't cause maymays...but yeah, agree that Kabuto line is cooler.
Twitch was a mistake.

How did it take so long for fairy types to be discovered when there was a fairy type 1000 years ago in kalos?
Maybe PokeFrance was isolationist and didn't want to tell anyone about fairies or their history. I still have mixed feelings on fairies. But the more likely explanation is that GameFreak is really bad at world building.
What is the average intelligence of a pokemon? Sometimes they seem purely animal and sometimes purely human.
I think it varies judging from the old anime and games. I remember episodes had things like Tauros and Gyrados be animalistic/monstrous along with the ones from Gen III, but that shit kinda went out the window in Gen 4 when they started to humanize pokemon even more for some dumb reason, probably because GameFrak is bad at world building.
Are there multiple regi pokemon? They're golems so they could be artificially created.
I think so. I remember years ago when I played Emerald I caught all the Regis and one of those guy in the Battle Frontier had his own Regis. Then again, GameFreak is pretty bad at world building.
Are there cats or not? There's a lot of pokemon that are subtitled with the animal as the pokemon type.
Aren't Meowth, Glameow and that purple kitty from Black and White cats? Also maybe cat is like some kind of species/pokemon family term.
How are hamburgers a thing? Unless there is an actual hamburg and it isn't change crumbella town or something.
Tauros seem pretty stupid. They could be used for beef. Farfetched and Magikarp were/are eaten in-game along with Slowpoke tails and in one of those Sinnoh legends it says that when humans eat fish pokemon they would throw their remains in the sea out of respect. Also I think Gamefreak might be really bad at world building.
What is the percentage of people who live with pokemon or are pokemon trainers? there seems to be a lot but how does the society sustain itself?
Gamefreak is really bad at world building.
If shinies are recessive genes how come there are no other recessive genes like blindness, dwarfism or exceptionalism?
I remember there was an old episode of the anime of a Pikachu born with blue eyes and the unique defect of being unable to use electric moves. Also some are born larger or smaller than others of their kind.
If every Yamask has their original deathmask attached to themselves, does that mean all yamask were significant people in ancient Unova or was at just common for them to do that?
Pokedex is full of crap written by 10 year olds. Also Gamefreak is really bad at world building.
How do I get a Jynx gf I am really lonely plese help me?
Go to a really cold place, make sure you're poorly dressed, then jump in a freezing lake and wait for a Jynx to come save you from a frozen grave. Trust me.
How are there ghost people who aren't ghost pokemon? I.E. Forest mansion, desert mansion, spooky goth ghost in office building.
Because they weren't pokemon. Also something similar is up with Marowak's ghost in the first game. Its a ghost but its not a ghost pokemon. Ghost pokemon are oddballs. Also, maybe Gamefreak is really bad at world building.
Why aren't more buildings accomodating to larger pokemon? you'd think if society was equal with them we'd have doors that could fit rhydons and the like.
Again: Gamefreak is really bad at world building.
Are the fossil pokemon accurate reconstructions of their prehistoric selves or is it possible that none of them are originally rock type and its fossilization that caused that change?
IDK. I think its the latter.
How come some pokemon aren't elevated in higher parts of society than humans? Alakazam seems like they should control the world because they're all so smart.
Again: Gamefreak is really bad at world building.
How come the police all use growlithes? Wouldn't fire pokemon be more dangerous to the job?
More obedient I guess.
How do the items like leaf stone work for some pokemon but not for others? What exactly is exp and levels?
Again: Gamefreak is really bad at world building.
If the Ultraverse beasts are supposed to be the normal pokemon of the ultraverse, does that mean the legendary pokemon in the ultraverse are even stronger?
I have no idea what any of that is. But chances are that Gamefreak is probably really bad at world building.

Game Freak/Nintendo has gone out of its way to say no evil Pokémon exist, they're bad only because they have bad trainers, but there's wild Malamar shown in the anime to have actual evil intentions. So which is it, Nintendo?

How did it take so long for fairy types to be discovered when there was a fairy type 1000 years ago in kalos?

It's possible the Fairy-typing was always a thing (such as with Clefairy), but researchers needed more proof to confirm it to then announce it to the scientific community.

Valerie, Kalos' Fairy-type gym leader, originates from Johto, so she may have decided to be the "special snowflake" (she honestly looks like someone who'd think that way) and take up residence in Kalos as such. Laverre City may-or-may-not have had a gym before her; if they did, she may have challenged them similar to how Sabrina challenged the Fighting Dojo to take over as Saffron City gym leader.

Are there multiple regi pokemon? They're golems so they could be artificially created.

🤔 And they were locked away by the ancient people because they feared them... Would these be the same ancient people who created the Ruins of Alph? We have the Sinjoh Ruins, after all, which connects Johto and Sinnoh, and Regigigas hails from Sinnoh...

How are hamburgers a thing? Unless there is an actual hamburg and it isn't change crumbella town or something.

Think it's actually confirmed humans do eat Pokémon, and any time they do eat meat, they eat everything out of respect for the slain Pokémon. Wouldn't be out of place for beef patties to be made from Tauros.

What is the percentage of people who live with pokemon or are pokemon trainers? there seems to be a lot but how does the society sustain itself?

There's still an economy with the currency used (which appears to be a unified currency), and Ryme City in Detective Pikachu is explicitly stated to be unique in that it's a place where humans and Pokémon co-exist, although Fortree City is supposed to be that way as well. There's police departments, and the Pokémon Centers may actually be sustained by charity, and in the anime there's some mention of politicians, so there has to be a working government. Normal jobs exist in the Pokémon world, and I don't think all of them have Pokémon helpers. People who keep Pokémon as pets don't battle with them, but not everyone has a pet.

And not everyone can become a Pokémon trainer, it's apparently one of the most grueling, albeit rewarding (?), career paths out there, and there's rankings for trainers, it seems. Although in Takeshi Shudo's novelization of the anime, gym leaders can be kicked by the organizers of the Pokémon League if they lose too many times.

If shinies are recessive genes how come there are no other recessive genes like blindness, dwarfism or exceptionalism?

Mini-Dit in the anime is shown to have problems with Transform in that it cannot replicate the actual size of Pokémon bigger than it, suggesting a recessive trait (not necessarily dwarfism).

In Let's Go, Pikachu/Eevee, Pokémon of any species can be tiny or large, so there's a wide range of sizes Pokémon can be like real animals. So it wouldn't be too out-of-place for there to be Pokémon with birth defects or other recessive traits, but they might not survive out in the wild (obviously).

If every Yamask has their original deathmask attached to themselves, does that mean all yamask were significant people in ancient Unova or was at just common for them to do that?

I have a theory that all living Yamask may be descendants from a Cofagrigus who was partnered with a beloved king/leader who passed away and became "one" with his Pokémon. Its children were then born with death masks meant to represent that human, and although they never knew the leader personally, genetically they're still linked to "recognize" the death mask. Think of how crows recognize people's faces, and even their descendants are taught to recognize the same face--though I don't know if it's because they tell them in great detail, or it only "works" because that person stays in the same area the whole time and crows, holding grudges, gossip about it even to their children.

Are the fossil pokemon accurate reconstructions of their prehistoric selves or is it possible that none of them are originally rock type and its fossilization that caused that change?

It's all but officially confirmed ever since Genesect was created that the dual-typing may be the result of the resurrection process (although let's face it, they're actually clones). Genesect was modified with a cyborg body to have the Drive on its back during the cloning process, giving it the Steel-typing. Whether Genesect can actually breed like the other resurrected prehistoric Pokémon, though, that's up to the fans to decide.

How come some pokemon aren't elevated in higher parts of society than humans? Alakazam seems like they should control the world because they're all so smart.

Sinnoh myth suggests Pokémon are to be at the ready to help humans, hence why wild Pokémon pop out of the tall grass, but humans may still be considered the dominant species. World leaders may have Pokémon of their own that do their bidding for all we know.

How come the police all use growlithes? Wouldn't fire pokemon be more dangerous to the job?

Probably for canine patrol, though Generations showed they can and do use other Pokémon for various situations.

The move "Night Slash" means a slash in the night, not a slash of the night element like I previously thought.

The original name translates to something like "blade test." I believe that in old Japan, samurai may have been able to test their new swords by attacking an innocent peasant -- with impunity.

If true, that's why the attack's type is dark -- and the dark type in Japan is called 悪 (あく), meaning "bad" or "evil."

So much for that "no evil pokemon" bullshit. Turning Darkrai into a good guy who gives nightmares in "self-defense" but "means no harm" was a big wtf especially when his victims can't awaken without a rare feather.

There's a distinction between the mainline games, the spin-offs, and anime though. For all intents and purposes they're all separate continuities. So going by just the main games, the "There are no bad Pokemon just bad trainers" mantra generally holds water. About as close as you get is Necrozma, and even then it only has a vendetta against humans because in the past they inflicted it with a permanent injury that causes it constant pain (the base form's idle animation has it clutching its head repeatedly like it has a migraine or something).

There's no way in hell the routes are traversible by car, but there's still some cars hanging out in some cities. How did they get there? How will they get out?
Maybe cars are only used for city travel since there’s a bunch of huge wild animals with magic powers roaming between them. Imagine driving down the highway and a Tauros sudden Skull Bash-s the side of your car.

I remember Ruby and Sapphire starting off with you getting to your new town in a moving van, yet there's no safe road leading into town and all of it is covered by grass, ledges and trees. They should just make cars be flying hovercars or something.

But then you'd get Skarmory slicing it down the middle just because you're in its way.

So then what would regular automobiles be made of to withstand Pokémon running head-on into your car?

Nothing I think. You'd be at risk on the ground or in the air. But at least air would make more sense considering the lack of stable roads.

Why the fuck are cards from the Pokemon Trading Card Game's Aquapolis and Skyridge sets so GODDAMN EXPENSIVE?
It's because Wizards of The Coast, the game's publisher at the time, lost the publishing rights and Nintendo didn't want to renew the license after learning that WOTC planned on releasing Legendary Collection 2 and Jamboree. When said license wasn't renewed WOTC was forced to destroy a large amount of Aquapolis and Skyridge products that left a single print run to reach the hands of players and collectors. In retrospect there's a bit of irony here due to TPCi releasing several reprint sets (Call of Legends, Legendary Treasures, Generations, Evolutions to some extent, the soon-to-be-released Hidden Fates set, and the Japan-exclusive Best of XY/SM sets) after the rights returned to Nintendo.

It's actually mentioned in Tyrantrum's Ultra Sun Pokedex entry that complete restoration is impossible so the Rock-typing may be a result of the fossilization...
Ultra Sun's Pokedex entry on Tyrantrum said:
Complete restoration is impossible, allowing room for theories that its entire body was once covered in a feather-like coat.
...But then you have the Mega Aerodactyl's Ultra Moon and LGPE Pokedex entries saying that the energy from Mega Evolving awoke some its dormant genes or, in the case of LGPE, completely restored its genes whilst keeping the Rock typing.
Ultra Moon's Pokedex entry on Mega Aerodactyl said:
Mega Evolution awakened some dormant genes, bringing back the sharp rocks that once covered Aerodactyl's entire body.
LGPE's Pokedex entries on Mega Aerodactyl said:
The power of Mega Evolution has completely restored its genes. The rocks on its body are harder than diamond.
I'm just gonna agree with @GeneralFriendliness and chalk it up to bad world building.

Maybe doors to bathrooms and other unseen stuff are on hidden walls, or are through hidden entrances in visible walls?

Also why would anyone live in a place where wild pokemon attack? It'd be like living on an island full of savage wildlife. Why can't it work like the Safari Zone when one is sans pokemon?
