That's kinda what I mean. They don't really give a shit and just care that the movie looks good so far. She might as well not even be there for what little difference it makes.

And I have heard the same too, but she barely did anything so far. It would be amazing if the Russos made her into an actual good character, but we all know that won't be the case in the long run.

It benefited from being the first big 3D film released after Avatar, and audiences were looking for a way to recapture that experience. Sometimes it pays to be at the right place at the right time.
 
I find it hilarious that US knocked this off the #1 spot super hard.

1:11 he talks about not knowing where to even start checking the comics. I guess rebooting a character 8 times will do that.

Indeed I do, just it's funny how you people act like the MCU is an unstoppable juggernaut, yet three weeks after release it wasn't strong enough to fight a smaller budget horror movie (Even if it did have some hype around it).

And you forgetting what site we are on? Laughing at SJWs is a part of it.

You know what? Fair enough. I literally thought Marvel would kick the living shit out of any movie released in a three month span after the fact, and I have been proven wrong! The sheer shock of this no-name coon decimating the Feige juggernaut has really put my in my place.

While watching, I kept thinking to myself that he'd actually managed to make an entire video without a single anime rape joke or holocaust reference, and that I might even be able to pass this one on to normie friends.

Then there's a holocaust joke in the last ten seconds, because of course there is. At least he's staying true to form.
 
Here's a little perspective: I imagine that there are a few fanboys that are distraught that an Aquaman film STARRING Jason Mamoa raked in $1.1 billion. So what if Captain Marvel's angling to do the same? It's just a mediocre-to-average film that entertained an ass-ton of normies that don't give a shit about the culture war. There are a ton of movies I hate that became massive financial successes like Avatar and the Bayformers, but there's no point in raging at them when I can take my money elsewhere like Shazam, which I plan to see again next week.

To be fair Avatar and Bayformers had more going for them than Captain Marvel.

Contrary to what @KillThemCrackasBabies thinks, if it wasn't for the hype for Endgame this movie would have only made like 60% of what it's made so far.
 
US benefited from the popularity of 'Get Out' as much as CM took advantage of 'End Game' hype. Aquaman benefited from people seeing Justice League and thinking "that sucked but I liked that Jason Mamoa guy from Game of Thrones, can't wait to see him in his own film".

The easiest and best way to get people to watch movies is to get them invested. That's not a particularly new or revolutionary idea.

The fact most people didn't seem to care for the character, but had to see it because they knew she was important in Endgame (and she was HINTED at in the post credits for Infinity War). I even knew a friend who recently went to see it with his family, and they literally only went because it was important to Endgame. This is anecdotal, but a lot of others are saying the same.

Dude I don't know what the fuck to tell you at this point. This will have been like the 12th or so time you've used the phrase "being obtuse!" to describe me laughing for a bunch of dorks thinking they were actually going to leave enough Rotten Tomatoes reviews to sink the thing and have since combating me "being obtuse!" (seriously is that a filter for something? it's such an odd word to describe the back and forth and you seem compelled to use that specific word...) with literally every theory and counterpoint that doesn't involve "normies don't care about Culture War" and don't have a particularly high bar set for summer blockbusters.


Like even a lot of this thread who claimed they had no interest in it... went and saw it so they could come back and say how mediocre it is. The people who are actively pissed off at the thing went and saw it, weeks out when they could have just read what happened and skipped it knowing nothing of value was in it for Endgame. They saw it, and you can't comprehend that people who aren't pissed off at Larson also went and saw it?

Which is it? It didn't actually do well, it did ok but only because of Endgame, it did undeniably well but because the audiences were idiots who didn't know what they were getting?

Between your repeated insistence I come in and "defend" the billion dollar movie, that weird ass PM you sent before, and your alternating explanations for why this didn't tank, I have no idea how you think you're coming across as anything except bothered by the fact that a film that wouldn't have possibly bombed didn't bomb. I'm flabbergasted at how you think I'm trying to pull one over on you or something, the movie was one in a long line of products that are almost guaranteed money makers and there's no way this wasn't going to do as well.

The fact that people were emotionally gambling on it to in order to prove a point to those Blue Checkmarks is amusing to me. Like what else do you expect me to say?
