Well it is bad, and it only got where it is because of Endgame hype.
Like seriously because the word of mouth is so meh (and a sign that fanboys only said it was Okay because they couldn't bring themselves to admit that it sucked), the only reason this made the money it did was because she was hinted at right at the end of Infinity War.

Notice how no one is hyped for her showing up in Endgame too?

But of course, you will claim that people LOVE feminist garbage even though if that was the case why didn't this movie set social media a fire like Black Panther did?

Mediocre movies make bank every day. I'd argue Jurassic World, the fifth hightest grossing film of all time, is objectively shit. Which plays into my main point; lmao 'tards actually thought this was gonna do poorly.

I'm not watching the video, nor do I know the contents, but I will use it to bring up a topic about Captain Marvel I haven't seen discussed here. 4Chan CO has been pretty much taken over by Tumblr since as far back as I can remember and one thing they do a lot is make Carol dedicated threads where they ship her with her best friend Jessica Drew (Spider-Woman). In the comics, they're just friends. Nothing more, nothing less. You can find discussions on the topic sprinkled everywhere comics are discussed. They have a dedicated shipping fanbase that goes autistic when anyone pops their little "they're lesbians" bubble. Here are just some examples of stuff you can find:

And the fanart, the bad looking fan-art:

It's just like the "make Elsa gay" sperging from these people.

They preach about how toxic it is for women to feel like they "need" to have a romantic interest ... But it turns out that's only when it comes to heterosexual relationships for them.

Jurassic World at least was fucking Jurassic Park lol. And lemme guess, people wanted a feminist superhero who has no likeable qualities to her. And also "It wasn't successful because it was apparently required to understand Endgame, that's not the reason people saw it at all you stupid tards! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

Look how upset that one little one-off joke made you.

Look at how you come to shill whenever this movie makes more money. Didn't you say you felt it was just "alright"?

I mean, that alone is laughable but it's laughable also that your literally trolling people who have a better taste in movies than you do. Your only making me hate these movies even more lol.

...

Well looks like you lost by default. You had to resort to correcting a minor mispelling like a typical Blue Checkmark cuck on twitter. Kinda shows what kind of complacent little sheepie you are defending a multibillion dollar corporation trying to turn cinema into nothing but Disney movies forever. Mediocre Disney movies for the record.

Don't worry dude when they get wind that Disney spent a billion of it's own dollars buying out empty theaters to make it look like the movie did well I'll learn my lesson.

Putting words into my mouth like a Blue Checkmark. But you know, it could be possible they spend some money to prop the opening numbers up considering Captain Marvel is an unknown with rather mediocre word of mouth. Unlike Jurassic World which had good word of mouth and you know, was a fucking Jurassic Park sequel.

All that CM had going for it, was MCU, and the fact it was seen a the pre-show to Endgame.

Also be honest, you think Captain Marvel will be a hit with the normies? As shills like to claim.

...uh. That's generally what 900 million suggests.

Ok I'll stop fucking with you now, but yes. It very obviously was a hit. Despite all of those totally legitimate pre-release reviews said, the vast majority of feedback ever since it came out has been between "Eeeh kind of sucked" and "Eee, pretty good!", which is where most movies tend to land, not to mention the majority if MCU films in general. This isn't me assuming it's going to make money, it did. How many responses are you actually seeing that are mad at the fact they HAD to see it because of Endgame, and were upset because it generally gave them nothing? Because I'm not seeing it.

You are in fact correct, I was bustin' balls a bit. But holy crap look how legitimately worked up you're getting over it. Were you banking on it to flop and are frustrated it didn't?

Well just sad that it did because these films are probably gonna decline big time and we are gonna have to deal with it. And because you were acting like a gaslighting shill.

The 900million suggests it was because people want to know more about Endgame which is coming out soon, and because it didn't have any competition. The other factor is audience goodwill from the MCU. And most MCU films seem to be "Ehhh it was okay" to "It was amazing!" in my experience. This is also the one in which people appear to have found the main character utterly boring and I do not see her really catching on at all. If she somehow does then...well say goodbye to likeable characters I guess.

But even aside from that the pacing and action scenes were incredibly underwhelming after all that we have seen in the MCU at this point, the tone was inconsistent trying to be both very serious but "funny" at the same time, not succeeding at either and just feeling hollow as a result. The retcons to the MCU lore were just flat out stupid and TLJ tier (just MCU fans are so stupid they don't seem to care), the Skrulls being good guys was just lame, the cat barely did anything, and the way Carol Danvers developed felt nonexistent and it was laughable that her arc was about men telling her what she can and couldn't do, which felt like a first world country issue.

But sure, how dare we get mad at the gaslighting the big studios are doing right now. Let's just be complacent and let them run all over us.

"The big corporation won again! Take that, trolls!" Oh. I feel SO owned. Because it made money, I guess I can't have an opinion now!

There are exceptional people on both sides of this stupid-ass argument, and I'm tired of hearing it. Many movies that have made a billion dollars have sucked balls. Captain Marvel is one of those movies, as it turns out.

The shills for Captain Marvel look like complete fucking dumbasses. All they've accomplished is corporate shilling. They aren't part of any movement, and they aren't really taking any sort of stand for something. They got fucking duped by one of the biggest corporations around. Congrats to them; they're useful idiots.

The way I see it, nobody wins. The MCU is going to turn into a dumpster fire immediately after Endgame (and possibly even sooner, if a bunch of our fears about Captain Marvel being shoehorned into Endgame come to pass).

Do you not understand how weird this sounds?

That they want to control the narrative and shame people who don't want to watch their movies into watching it?

Alright gonna explain this calmly. This is at least from the POV of the companies that do this, though not necessarily what happens IRL.

  1. Studios put out movie as a part of a big franchise. They want to pander to the woke crowd.
  2. During the promotion people think the movie looks mediocre and advise others not to see it
  3. Studios realise this could be an issue in the future especially after a previous movie that sorta did this bombed or damaged the franchise's profitability
  4. They pay marketing firms and hired shills to create a narrative over "Toxic males hate movie staring woman/poc/lgbt" to stir up a controversy and publicity.
  5. This makes the legitimate critics from 2 look like evil monsters in the eyes of those unaware of what's going on.
  6. This makes people just brush off criticism as toxic white males being misogynist and they go and see the movie anyway instead of actually listening to them.
  7. Movie comes out, let's say it's a success (but not due to woke pandering, due to goodwill and a fear of missing out, this is important for CM due to Endgame). The studios of course are glad that their strategy "worked" (It didn't even if it did make money, it wasn't due to that) and then to really drive the point home, they get shills to go on sites (kinda like how you are acting right now tbh) to essentially shame and mock those who wanted the movie to fail or felt the movie looked terrible. Labelling them as Incels and misogynists over and over.
  8. This creates a impression that those who are complaining are a vocal minority, and they start to doubt their position, eventually they just give in and become a mindless consumer like everyone else.

However this is just what the studios want to happen, the last part doesn't really work as typically they just loose interest in the IP and move onto something else.

Also Gaslighting definition: "manipulate (someone) by psychological means into doubting their own sanity. "

I mean, Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland earned over $1,000,000,000, and it was trash. So, a mediocre movie grossing that much isn't anything new.

Notice how no one is hyped for her showing up in Endgame too?

I mean, no one isn't hyped either. Anyone who was hyped for Endgame hasn't been put off by Captain Marvel's inclusion as far as I've seen/heard. In fact, most people I've heard have said she came off better in the trailer than her own film. Unless you're including people who think the Avengers being nice to her in the trailer is forcing the characters to fawn over her, even though there has never been an addition who hasn't been received well by the others, except MAYBE Bucky.

Since it didn't get posted here, I want to repost the MovieBob take on the movie because it made me laugh. He basically says that "it was obivious the film would make bank" on the basis that he thinks Brie looks like someone who wants to talk to your manager. lol
