Captain Marvel - Literally, from "her" to "hero"

See, and that's the thing that drives me up the wall with how popular "woke" media treats female characters: 90% of the time they ain't characters because the people who go apeshit about not having gender representation also balk at the idea that a female character could ever be shown to be anything less than imperfect. And if they are shown to be imperfect, they should have a snarky retort to offset it and somehow still attempt to come off as superior. It's fucking boring. It narrative equivalent of vanilla yogurt, but that seems to be the de facto setting for current media climate: if you can't play it seriously, try to be meta and everyone will let it slide.

And that's why I'm probably not going to see Captain Marvel. Not because "OH NO WAHMANS" but because this from the onset has shown to be another retread of the same boring as hell Disney Princess-ification that they've done for the last few decades with every singe fucking IP they get their sticky fingers on. This is going to be Mulan In Space with 90s references hamfisted into it.

Considering that Disney's marketing for Captain Marvel is even worse than either The Last Jedi and Solo that it's now turning itself to a real-life equivalent to Big Brother from George Orwell's 1984 (although this by itself isn't surprising either coming from a greedy mass media company).

I doubt this will get to TLJ levels because Captain Marvel is a movie that not many people care about and TLJ at least had hype for it.

Solo gave Disney a scare. Star Wars had been a licence to print money, no matter how bad the movies were. Suddenly they had a flop. What if the same thing happened here? Black Panther showed that it was possible to get woke without going broke, so that’s what they did.

See Rey and the minority characters from new Star Wars. They barely have flaws aside from being "quirky/awkward", but the filmmakers still expect us to like them because of their skin color or vagina or sexualities. And then you have cancerous sites like Tumblr that makes fandoms out of them; the most pathetic, poorly written conceived characters that do not deserve that much appreciation, since they confuse representation with good writing (oh hai Korra).

I can't wait to see the Walker brothers' soyboytastic review of this movie.

EDIT: Like it's obvious this would never make Black Panther levels. Even with all the things stacked against it was an action/fantasy flick with a black lead, which isn't done that much, that would attract an audience, plus the character had been presented earlier in another film and was found likable then. Angry White Blonde in Space is something we've been seeing for years, plus black people who loved Black Panther wouldn't give a shit about the adventures of Random White Lady.

Seriously, though, if their plans after Endgame is to include all the minority characters from the new comics...Like who would be the audience for the films!? A shitily done Miles Morales movie that'll be super rushed since Disney would want to rip off Miles from Spiderverse after they saw how popular that film was? A Kamala Khan movie with so much Islamic propaganda it'll make islamists' head roll out from the sand? None of these things sound appealing in the long run.
