I thought the guy thought He-Man was stupid?
I think one of the underlings went on a whole Twitter tirade basically saying that the He-Man and Thundercats were stupid and that if you thought the reboot looked terrible you were just a stupid fanboy, and a few industry professionals joined in on that self-congratulatory crowing, but the actual show runner (the one with the stupid top-knot hair, Victor-something I think) said that he was a big fan of the show growing up, and drew a lot of inspiration from Thundercat(‘s intro, nothing in the show) and that the reboot about to come out is basically everything he ever wanted to see in a Thundercats series.
Granted, it’s possible that he’s exaggerating, but based on some of his apparent hipster-isms I kinda get the impression that he’s one of those people currently plaguing animation & comics who thinks everything’s gotta be super ironic and self-aware.
Like I said, this is going to be another Teen Titans Go.
It definitely isn't going to be as popular as that was - lightning doesn't strike twice too often.
I don’t think this is CN trying to re-capture TTG so much as Adventure Time. That show was a massive hit for them because, at the time at least, there wasn’t anything really like it on kids television. It’s also partly responsible for a lot of the style quirks that have become rampant in CN shows like off-modelness and the bean head/mouth look when a lot of the artists who got their start on AT went off to make their own shows. Thundercats has all these markers, so I get the impression that it’s another instance of someone who worked on AT or for someone who worked on AT and it’s another instance of CN figuring that if they worked on this one show that was a huge hit for them then
surely at least one of these guys has another million dollar idea rattling around in there somewhere.
TTG was a hit, sure, but it was kinda for completely different reasons - namely the TT show was fresher in the public consciousness, the style was crisper, and the jokes are pretty straightforward where they rely more of crude but effective slapstick rather that being weird/surreal; ideal background radiation basically. If they were trying to ape TTG, they’d probably going the direction of that Uni-kitty show nobody watches.
