So.... I wouldn't call myself a "racist" with the usual connotation. I am, however, a realist. If there are facts, studies, observations, and experiences that all lead to a conclusion, I'm going to go with that conclusion.
So I don't see any set of people (black, woman, skinny, fat, piercings, tattoos, whatever) as lesser based exclusively on those attributes.. but I also don't deny clear facts and patterns.
For example, a woman recently sued her doctor for sexual harassment for "body shaming" her by telling her she needed to lose weight or her self-inflicted diabetes was going to kill her. I don't buy that for a second. Fat people SHOULD be body shamed. Hell, I was overweight, I still am slightly. Yes it was my choice to keep eating, and yes that should be fair game for someone to make fun of me. They were literally trying to promote a healthier life style in me, to extend/save my life.
Some things like skin colour, you can't choose. For example, it's shown that the top 20% of black people (measured by IQ) intersects with the 50% line of whites. Meaning, the "genius" class of black people, their top 20%, are dumber than 1 out of 2 white people. IQ is supposed to be relatively independent of education and memorization of facts, it's not perfect but it does measure to some agree your ability to learn and solve problems.
This doesn't mean every black person out there is an idiot, but there is a definite pattern of lower IQ and thus they need to make it up by working harder and dedicating more time towards edumakationz. I've had black friends, they have every opportunity to be a good person I think, regardless of their genetics. Many don't.
So I'm curious of your thoughts on the matter. I give people equal opportunity no matter what, although my expectations are biased towards experience and what I know. I don't think that all black people are the same as all white people because that's proven false. If you're one of the good ones, fine, we can be friends.
My ex, on the other hand, saw the topics as completely verboten. Everyone was the same no matter what, no matter the science, no matter experience, no matter observation, because
that's the way she wished it was. Even me suggesting that a black person would prefer me put on the rap radio station over classic rock would be met with scorn... even though the chances are extremely high that said black person would prefer the rap station. Like I said, equal opportunity. If they said "turn that shit off why don't you put on some floyd or something?" I'd be surprised, but I wouldn't argue with him, "What? But you're black! You can ONLY like rap music!" That's stupid.
So, as I've said, I'm a realist. If there is data out there and my experience shows it, I'm going to use it across the board. My ex would use data and experience
unless it suggested that different people might be different. Where do you stand on the matter?
