Men stormed the beach on Normandy, not women.

Also, what's with it being "Battlefield 5" like, we had a fucking progression for relative current times. But no, now we suddenly go back 75+ years. They've already had Battlefields such as BF 1942 or whatever.

I still miss the BF2 days.

I can't believe that was actually the biggest issue people took with the trailer and not how hilariously over-the-top and boring it was.
I mean the entire trailer just screamed "FAKE AS SHIT" despite eventually getting the multiplayer hud later for no reason. And all of the characters were acting like goofy action heroes instead of people. I mean what the fuck were they actually thinking? This is literally a 12 year old's vision of WW2 and lacks all of the charm of other shooters that go over-the-top and silly.
But I guess a woman with a exceptional prosthetic being present is a bigger issue than any of that. Remove the woman and I doubt anyone would have an issue with that garbage.

I've seen criticism to all the other bits of the trailer from the face paint to the tank speed. I think the women was just front and center and drew the most attention. People love to pick things apart and complain so I'm sure regardless of the woman this trailer would have drawn attention.

It seems to me most people had issue with the developers bizzarre "right side of history" response to the criticism. I'm not even sure that half of the complaints are actually real people complaining about women in BF2. I wonder if it's all marketers trying to steer the narrative in that direction. I see the same 4chan bait threads pop up complaining about women in BFV everyday, with the same "its not about the women" responses, plus the media is pushing this "BF players hate women characters in videogames!" angle.

Seems just a bit too convenient all this seemed to happen around the same time, like someone took a page from the Ghostbusters 2016 marketing handbook.

I think the major issue is that they claim to make a realistic game clearly set in a semi-alternate reality. The second you add something of 'realistic' value to the game, you're already breaking apart from actual realism in that you're not depicting the world as it is. If they'd just buckle down and focus on one of the two it wouldn't be as much of an issue.

"We made a war simulator following the themes of this one period" just doesn't cling as well as REEE OMAHA.

I also love how shitty journalists instantly pretend to represent their whole organisation, which is probably the only reason why their articles are removed. "I think x" is tolerable since they hired the individual for their opinions and writings, not for them to put words in your mouth.

There's actually a perfect solution to the controversy. They should just retitle the game "Battlefield Heroes Remastered" and everyone would be instantly ok with it. Remember Battlefield Heroes?

Personally, I would love a Soviet campaign that follows Lyudnila Pavilchenko.

What annoys me about battlefield 5 is they could've included women accurately and placated both sides. They could do this by including a Russian campaign or using French partisans.

I don't really care about the multiplayer being historically inaccurate, due to the fact you can only get so immersed in a game where you get revived after being shot 8 times in the chest. I like being able to fully customize my multiplayer character in games. I don't get why people get mad when games like COD and BF have "unhistorical stuff". NO SHIT ITS NOT ACCURATE!

If you want a realistic war game play RO2, Arma, Squad, and other similar games, don't cry about Generic WW2 Shooter #50 being inaccurate.

Although I do agree that they should have focused more on the women on the Eastern Front or French Partisans, but it's not that big of a deal.

I do however care in the single-player campaigns about historical accuracy, I don't want a war story where you play as a black woman killing Nazis.

EDIT: I just want to add- without making a new post, in regards to the accomplishments of Soviet women in wartime: keep in mind a) the USSR was a country with their back against the wall and little left to do but hand antiquated rifles to anyone that could hold them. b) Soviet propaganda overplayed every Soviet victory so the comrades wouldn't start revolting in the middle of the war (which of course is how the Bolsheviks seized power in the first place).

Finally, it's just easier to say: women were the exception rather than the rule even in the theaters of war they did serve in. It happened, but it's so rare as to be notable only for that reason.

Far as the autism of BF5 could go with politics, I think I may of found an autistic series of tweets over how "get politics out of my x" is nothing more than a "dogwhistle".

TL;DR the sloth furry says that if you're the sort that "doesn't want politics" in some game means you are Gamer tm that wants to uphold status quo. I can't help but think this may as well be a partial response to the tism over BF5.
 
Oh EA, you honestly can't believe your clumsy PR stunt is somehow progressive when you continue to stand for the most grotesque cynical aspects of modern gaming. The only reason this game isnt rammed to the tits with pay to win DLC is because the Star wars shitshow is still fresh in the plebs memory. you're not pro-women because you're not pro anyone. Your interest in inclusivity is about the same level as a dealers-you don't give a shit about us you just want the cash.

I wouldn't be surprised if the sloth or people like her were to say "play games to have fun" would be a dog whistle, especially if that's applied just not wanting politics in a game.
 
Seriously if you're going to make obvious breaks from what is expected, go way over the top Red Alert 2 style. Hell, let players play as FDR on a wheelchair equipped with M2 machine guns and having to call Truman to authorize a nuke strike.

The more I think about it, the more I think a WW2 leader hero shooter is the only game in that genre I want to play.
