Taking it off gears a bit, someone recently uploaded the opening and ending credits to the Arabic version of the show as it was aired briefly on the Middle Eastern channel MBC. This was the dub that had to do a lot of changes to get it within the limits of what could pass for a show catered to a Muslim majority. It didn't stick around long before an original animated production took it's place.

Interestingly, despite several odd edits made the end of "Krusty Gets Busted (Bart putting the picture of him and Krusty on the wall, then turning off his lamp), we get to see clips of the dubbing staff, I suppose as a nice gesture of thanks to them for having worked on this.

That's not the first time that an Arabic version of a show was changed for religious purposes. The children's show Anpanman actually gets censored during Ramadan because the main characters are based on food.
I've heard of this Simpsons dub, and the clip at the end is one of the few episodes I've seen of the show (I've seen several bits here and there too). I wonder if they kept in the bit where Homer's scared to go to bed with the lights on and Marge calls the stories "children's stories" in that dub when the funny thing is that the stories weren't for kids!

Her voice still sounds recognizable, but not as good as it used to be.
 
I was watching the FXX marathon today and I think I have a new favorite Homer quote.

"I can't wait to tell everyone about this! I'll feel important without drinking, that will be weird."

Family Guy is guilty of this too. The first 3 seasons were some of the funniest things MacFarlene churned out. While there were cut away gags not every reference instantly went to that. If you rewatch the first three seasons you'll see how jarring it is compared to now.

Simpsons are the same way. I have the first 10 seasons on DVD and watching it now whenever I see it on if I'm flipping through the whole thing just seems like a dead shell of its former self.

Peter Griffon has the exact same character devolution as Homer too. In the first two or so seasons he's a slightly dimwitted working class everyman who inexplicably morphs into a moral less destructive sociopath in later seasons.

Yeah it's weird but when they cancelled the show and then brought it back you can see the Pet Semetary abomination it is. Same with Homer. In the first 10 seasons he's a dumb ass but well meaning and he does learn from his mistakes...sort of.

Now it's just....it hurts to watch. It's just so weird. Marge was shown to be the straight man to Homer and while mild-mannered and the voice of reason, she wasn't above giving into the stupidity that everyone on the Simpsons is guilty of.

Now the show is this SJW fest with Flanderized characters who explain the jokes instead of the tone and visuals doing the work.

I think what hurt the show is Phil Hartman dying and writers that knew what they were doing left.

Homer Goes to College (Conan returning from after he left for his own talk show) and the Cartridge Family (Schwartzfelder who is a giant gun nut) are some of the funniest episodes in the series. Both writers understood how to write Homer. Like a big dumb dog. Well-meaning, excited, and unpredictable. Now Homer is too dumb and an asshole.

I wouldn't doubt that the slightest. Especially for a show where the hero's head is made out of a pastry that has to be re-baked if ruined/destroyed. Not bad for an author who gave us "Ringing Bell", a story who's animated adaptation didn't have to come over here but it did!

Of course I'm sure any anime that's got skimpy clothed women are out of the question!

I think before the second time it was cancelled, those were the better episodes (1999-2002 or whenever).

My ideal way to end the show is that either Disney or Fox hire back the old writers (including Conan) and do one last final season.

The reason why the movie was as good as it was (not prime material but wayyyyyy better than later seasons and I think most would agree with that) is that they hired back the old writers to work on it.

Yep, the first original run in 99 to I think 02 or so. When they came back on the air it just quickly devolved to shit. Ironically I think American Dad improved over time. Mostly because they don't use cutaway gags and while Stan can be over the top patriotic/conservative, he's not an idiot. Also Roger really makes the show shine. His personas are easily the funniest fucking thing on the show.

Never did get into American Dad, but recall thinking it didn't go quite as far as FG had in the plot dept. It took it's time a bit.

Phil Hartman's characters were easily one of the best things of the show. Lionel Hutz and Troy McClure episodes were awesome. It's sad to think they were going to make a Troy McClure live action movie with Phil Hartman that ended when his wife killed them both. It's also sad because he was going to be the voice of Zapp Brannigan.

The episodes can be hit or miss but overall it's a pretty good show. One of my favorites is Roger tricking Steve into thinking he's been accepted in to Hogwarts. Anyone not familiar with spanish "lavate las manos" means "wash your hands".

Yeah Billy West admits that he used Phil Hartman as inspiration for his Zapp voice and it shows. I can only imagine how much funnier (not knocking West but I mean it's Phil Hartman) it would have been if Phil was alive to do the voice.

Odd when you consider they had a VCR when the show started, but I guess the "floating timeline" deal is why we're seeing this.
 
I finished the episode. It was thoroughly mediocre. I smiled when they referenced the Tracy Ullman Show. It did keep the timeline where Bart is a Supreme Court Justice. That was about it.

It shows how everyone except Maggie dies in the future.

Bart goes into a coma after being struck by lightning, Lisa fucks with his subconscious by making him imagine that he can see dead people. Bart wakes up and reveals he knows how everyone will die, cue slideshow of various characters dying, Bart killed Skinner with a firework prank, and he was dressed in the judge garb (Skinner's corpse would roll over Bart and kill him by the way). Maggie will never die apparently.

Not to mention, they began excusing his behavior because they had to come out and give the excuse that his devolution was a result of him being a r.etard.

That, honestly, is when the show pretty much went downhill much more than it already was at that point.

Oh that Grunge episode where Bart goes "The 90's? Never heard of it." I drunkenly yelled at the tv "IT'S THE DECADE YOU WERE STILL FUNNY, FAGGOT!!" Then I shot my TV a la Elvis. Then the cops were called. Then I had to talk my way out of jail explaining that nothing was fired in my home. Then I got more drunk....the end.
 
I went to the Springfield boardwalk and the Simpsons ride in Orlando. It was the best Simpsons related thing I've seen in 10 years.
