I don't know if I want to Crystal.

On the one hand, Extremespeed dargonite + possibility of shiny spring onion...on the other I'm kinda gen2'd out after Virtual Silver.

Is there anything else that might convince me?

I wonder if they will keep that glitch where you can switch the Boy and Girl's color scheme.

Battle Tower can give you a nice challenge if you're into that, also it give you something to do with your Pokemon after completing all in-game events besides transferring them to Gen VII

I shall consider it!

Also I just realized you can get all the excess fossils (I think?) from the Isle Aphun.

I'm really considering making a FOSSIL TEAM to do the rest of the game with.

Ah, yes, THAT'S where the gimmicks in this franchise really began. Where you take your Pokemon, and have no chance to win (winning nothing even, was there any sensible prizes) unless you invested time in those other IV raising gimmicks.

The Battle Tower would evolve into the even gimmickier Battle Frontier, which I did enjoy but to hell with that fatass Scott/Enshida.

The battle ______ facilities allow you to challange yourself in and gives you a reason to train your Pokemon further after beating Red since it's really hard to find people to do multiplayer with in the VC games.

The prizes you in Crystal are a x5 set of Vitamins every 7 wins, but considering how expensive they usually are its nice to have a way to get them in bulk. Additonally the facility is usable as soon as you reach Olivine. They have cups for every 10 level intervals, you even with level 10 Pokemon you can enter. Levels 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, and 100 are unlocked after entering the Hall of Fame, and level 70 and later allow you to use Mewtwo, Mew, Lugia, Ho-oh, and Celebi, who in future games are usually banned in such places.

At least these days the Battle Facilities are evolved for purpose. Who knows when I get to battle Red.

Plus, I'm beginning to want to delve into Mega Evolutions. I'm eyeing the Glalie Mega Evolve Stone (I'd rather take a needle of arsenic than use those unoriginal official terms) because I like Glalie, and the Mega Evolution is actually amongst the best.

im still collecting my rare Pokemon first but when their all battle ready, then maybe i will.

I beat the main story last night. I didnt hate it as much as I thought I would. Its still pretty lazy but hey some of the new stuff is cool and I'm looking forward to post and maybe meta game.

its weird we have a pokemon thread and no ones talking about trading or asking other kiwis to battle.
I might be interested in getting back into meta game stuff soon, if anyone here wants to battle. I played a good bit of competitive in gen 4, 5, and 6 (a ton of 6 actually) and I kind of miss it.

Next up for the release schedule is Pokemon on the Switch, and all of them, Gamefreak, Nintendo and every person involved knows damn well what's to be expected. Pokemon is Nintendo's most recognizable franchises beyond Mario and Zelda, and if the main series is to join the ranks of the system that brought Breath of the Wild and Odyssey, then the main series will have to seriously pull up their socks and deliver something on par with the Masterpieces released this year.

And after the big letdown (to me, anyway) of Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, this better damn well be so.

I'm pleased with the fact that you get to fight Totem Sonichu in the Electric/Steel trial this time (and I guess the fact that it's actually a steel trial considering the steel trial captain was just tacked on in sun and moon). And for added fun, the electric trial captain's name is Chris in some languages.

I don't own a Switch.

I'll wait to see if there's a way of transferring mons, and if there is, this'll be what finally tips the balance for me getting one.

...not played a console PKMN game since Colloseum.

Weren't they saying something about how Bank would have a Switch app at some point?

I've just realised that it's not unreasonable that the number of pokemon reaches over 1000 in the next two gens.

Wow.

I recently finished X, will probably return to HG now. Pretty fun, difficulty balancing was off, here's my team:
  • Greninja
  • Talonflame
  • Beedrill
  • Bulbasaur
  • Tyrantrum
  • Sylveon

Still pushing through Ultra Sun. I really do love the Totem Stickers, if only to keep me checking out every new area fully. But after playing HG, I really miss the radio and phone functions. I remember thinking as a kid that they'd be series standards after G/S/C, but I guess not.

I still adore Heart Gold. It had a lot of cool features that unfortunately haven't returned in more recent games. Something I really liked was the walking Pokemon feature, where the first member of your party would walk with you everywhere and you could talk to them. I love game mechanics that promote bonding with your Pokemon.
