For real, so the person who made this just decided to disregard actual good Disney role models like Hercules, Tarzan, Aladdin, or Peter Pan for Wade. Hell, even Nick isn't seen as a green flag. But this water nigga is?

You know, I always had a soft spot for Lion King 2, mostly because just how engaging Zira is a villain, she basically carries this whole movie.
Its just crazy that we went from having a machiavellian scheming villain in the first movie to whats pretty much a fanatical warlord. I think the only thing that kind of sucks is that Zira wasnt in the first movie at all and we never really got to know whatever relationship she and Scar had when he was alive. The funny thing is that the awful live action remake could have fixed that by having Zira appear at some point, but then again, that would imply there was ever a chance L.K 2 would get the same treatment and we all know it doesnt carry the same legacy the first one had so thats out of the question.
Scar's song was about being prepared for a coup and that he will rule all afterwards
Zira's song is all about killing her enemies in the most agonizing way possible and how they'll violently take over
Both songs are great but Zira's just has a scarier contrast because she isnt playing up her violent tendecies, she is being 100% honest about the horrible things she and others will do to their enemies, even making it clear she did consider forgiving and forgetting but she just prefers the far more violent route.
She did belong in a "bigger" movie if it makes any sense, something on the scale of the original, its almost weird to say she is almost too good for a straight to DVD sequel.

She was a fanatic who truly believed that Scar was the rightful King of the Pridelands, even after he essentially destroyed it.
You can see this devotion to Scar in how she raised Kovu.
Not only does she essentially raise Kovu to be Scar's successor, but the moment she learns he got close to Simba's daughter, she quickly twists that into a ploy to get Kovu closer to Simba so that he could kill him.
She raised her own child to be an assassin.
And what makes this more fuck up is that Kovu isn't even blood-related to Scar. Hell, it's implied that Kovu might not even be blood-related to Zira and was only taken because he looks similar to Scar.
You can see how this has painfully affected him when he claims there's a darkness in himself.
Zira is an emotionally abusive mother who grooms her own children to her own means, and ultimately, this led to one of her kids getting killed in that pursuit to please her.

It's pretty fucked since Nuka looks close to Scar's visage, but he was obviously not the favorite (or he was until Kovu came along). And then Vitani was essentially to be Zira's Mini-Me, but she was also neglected.

Thats why I find it so weird that Zira is a straight to DVD villain because the sheer intensity and dark subject material that this character carries legit makes her "risky" and thats for the standards of the theatrical movies, if we go with the other straight to DVD sequels, most of them tend to be, at best, downgrades from the original villain but Zira stands out that much.
The only thing I didnt like about the reanimation is the fact it almost kind of tones down her crazed death smile

We dont even know if Nuka, Viti and Kovu came from her or if just Nuka and Viti or none of them at all. For all we know, Zira is a deranged sociopath literally raising child soldiers as her "children". We cant even be sure if she herself even knows truth from fiction after a certain point, mostly because, well, why would she give a shit if it doesnt contribute to her revenge? She does seem to have a loose grasp on reality but she is so intimidating and manipulative she can easily make others buy into her version of reality.
It ironically makes fans not even entirely sure what is true or not with her. We dont know if she was born this way or what kind of relationship her and Scar had and if she became this way after his death or she was always a bit damaged goods. There are many interpretations based on how little we actually know.
Something that is rather interesting to point out is just how both leaders, Zira and Simba, do seem to be demonstrating mental/emotional issues, fittingly both surrounding Scar. Lion King 2 is such a flawed movie and yet when it works, it dare say it works as well as the original.
I would say it's flawed in that it's not as good as the first film, and the animation quality is a bit weaker.
However, it's still a pretty good movie that explores the aftermath of Scar's rule and how it affected everyone, even after the Pride Lands recover.

It absolutely makes sense that Simba turns out that way, not just because Scar killed his father, but Simba used to admire him.
He would listen to him and take any advice Scar would give him, partly because Simba saw him as the cool uncle who would let him do whatever he wanted, regardless of whether it put him in danger. And though Scar never cared about Simba, we can see that from their interactions. He still managed to exploit his nephew's admiration for him and used him in his plans to kill Simba and his own brother.
It makes sense that Simba would become overprotective of his daughter to avoid repeating his mistake, especially after the incident with his own father, to the point that he didn't trust Kiara to hunt on her own, even when she was an adult.
